Assessing Workplace Violence and Policy Impact: A Cross-Sectional Study of Home Healthcare Workers.

Workplace violence (WPV) is a health concern with limited understanding in home healthcare. This study investigated the occurrence of WPV among home healthcare workers (HHCWs). HHCWs completed a survey about the frequency of WPV occurrence in organizations with written policies and the reporting procedures in the event of a WPV incident. About a third of respondents experienced both verbal and emotional abuse daily, whereas 56.6% of participants reported physical violence at some point while working with their current agency. In most cases, patients were the primary perpetrators. Despite exist

[Compliance and knowledge about prescribed medication among elderly home-care recipients by method of providing medications].

After long-term care insurance commenced in April 2000, various types of in-home care began, including delivery of prescriptions medicines to the elderly. However, the effects of in-home care workers on patient drug compliance are unclear as yet. In this study, we examined the characteristics of the care workers who delivered prescription medicines to the elderly, and analyzed the effects on patient drug compliance and knowledge about medication. The subjects included 163 homecare recipients aged 60 and older, who were taking more than one prescribed drug, who ranked worse than J-2 who were ph

Associations between cognitive function and a range of significant life events in an elderly essential tremor cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Although essential tremor (ET) is associated with cognitive decline, we know little about how specific cognitive changes predict significant events in patients' lives. We examined the relations of attention, executive function, language, memory, and visuospatial performance to the occurrence of near falls, falls, walking aid use, home health aide use, non-independent living and hospitalizations within a prospective, longitudinal study of ET cases. We expected executive function and memory to be most strongly associated with these events. METHODS: 131 ET cases (mean age at baseline

The benefits of toothpaste--real or imagined? The effectiveness of toothpaste in the control of plaque, gingivitis, periodontitis, calculus and oral malodour.

Toothbrushing with toothpaste is the most widely used method of home dental care for the populations of the Western world. The traditional role of toothpaste is primarily cosmetic, in aiding the cleaning of teeth and producing fresh breath. Today, however, formulations contain ingredients which may also help oral health by way of reducing dental plaque and improving gingival/periodontal health. This article provides a short review on the usefulness of these chemicals when used primarily in toothpastes.

Prevalence and Determinants of Home Delivery among Women with Easy Access to Health Facilities in Sub‑Saharan African Countries: A Multi‑level Mixed Effect Analysis.

Introduction: Most maternal deaths are associated with home deliveries, which account for half of births in low‑income countries. To develop appropriate policies and methods that could aid in addressing the issues, it is important to understand the burden of home delivery despite having easy access to health facilities in low‑income nations such as sub‑Saharan Africa. In addition, identifying and prioritizing determinants could help executives to review their perinatal policies. Therefore, this study aimed at assessing the prevalence and factors associated with home delivery among women who ha

Guidelines for environmental health management in children's homes in sub-Sahara Africa.

The field of environmental health focuses on the relationships between human health and well being and the influence of the physical, social and societal environments. Our understanding of the environment-health interface has progressed because of two relatively recent insights: First, the recognition that the unprecedented environmental changes of the last half-century are affecting global population health. Secondly, the recognition that children have greater vulnerability to environmental hazards and are inadequately protected by current regulatory standards. Efforts to redress this situati

Self-management and home-based HIV/AIDS care in Tanzania.

PURPOSE: Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a major contributor to the success of treating people with HIV/AIDS. This study aims to explore the degree to which human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency (HIV/AIDS) infected individuals, especially those who routinely visit antiretroviral clinics would prefer to receive their treatment at home rather than at the clinic. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Fifty semistructured and in-depth interviews were used to collect data. Based upon systematic review of the literature on self-management of people living with HIV/AIDs, th

[Experience in applying legal conditions according to the nursing insurance regulation--ambulatory rehabilitation, nursing aids and nursing care eligibility].

UNLABELLED: The Statutory Health Care (Nursing) Insurance in Germany, called "Pflegeversicherung (PVG)", financially supports nursing care at home and in nursing homes. If suggested by an authorized examining person (MDK), it provides access to ambulatory rehabilitation and to various aids to facilitate nursing care of patients cared for at home. Also, the PVG mandatory requires the visit by a nurse every three to six months (nursing care checkup) if the patient is cared for by family members without support of professional nursing services. Little is known about the realisation of the suggest

Factors associated with access to HIV care services in eastern Uganda: the Kumi home based HIV counseling and testing program experience.

BACKGROUND: The HIV/AIDS health challenge continues to ravage many resource-constrained countries of the world. Approximately 75 % of all the global HIV/AIDS related deaths totaling 1.6 (1.4-1.9) million in 2012 occurred in sub-Saharan Africa, Uganda contributed 63,000 (52,000-81,000) to these deaths. Most of the morbidity and mortality associated with HIV/AIDS can be averted if individuals with HIV/AIDS have improved access to HIV care and treatment. The aim of this study therefore, was to explore the factors associated with access to HIV care services among HIV seropositive clients identifie

Singaporean beliefs about HIV and AIDS.

As part of an in-home survey, 429 Singaporeans responded to questions concerning beliefs about AIDS as a disease and the ways in which one can contract HIV. The results indicated that, although many held realistic beliefs, identifiable biases and misconceptions were present. Virtually all respondents were aware that HIV is contracted through sexual contact as well as the sharing of needles during IV drug use. However, many respondents believed that it is either somewhat or very likely for HIV to be transmitted through casual contact, by giving blood, or from mosquitoes and other insects. Also,
