Response to tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) booster vaccination after prolonged time intervals to primary immunization with the rapid schedule.

Tick-borne encephalitis can be prevented by active immunization, for which different schedules and booster recommendations exist. However, recommended booster intervals are often exceeded. In the present study, 178 adults aged 18-81 years received the first booster dose 2-11 years after primary immunization (instead of 12-18 months as recommended) according to the rapid schedule (vaccination on days 0, 7, and 21). The booster dose was well tolerated. All subjects showed a typical anamnestic response with an 11-fold increase in the geometric mean titre as measured both by neutralization test an

Does an off-label two-dose RotaTeq vaccine schedule translate into a higher incidence of rotavirus hospital admissions compared to the approved three-dose RotaTeq schedule? A Canadian immunization research network study.

BACKGROUND: Rotavirus (RV) vaccination programs were implemented between 2011 and 2012 in Canada and have considerably reduced the burden of RV disease. In September 2018, the province of Quebec implemented a reduced-dose RotaTeq vaccination schedule (two doses). Other provinces, such as British Columbia and Ontario, continued to use the approved three-dose schedule for this product. Our aim was to determine whether using a reduced-dose RotaTeq schedule was associated with an increased burden of RV disease. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study spanned from September 2006 to March 2023. The

Exploratory Study of the Phase IV Immunization Schedule of Quadrivalent Influenza Split-Virion Vaccine in Children Aged 3-8 Years.

This study explored the optimum immunization schedule for the quadrivalent influenza split-virion vaccine containing influenza A strains (H1N1 and H3N2) and B lineage strains (Yamagata and Victoria) in children aged 3-8 years. The 652 participants enrolled were divided into two groups based on a history of influenza immunization (IH group) or no history of influenza immunization (NH group). The groups were administered a two-dose immunization schedule on days 0 and 30. In the NH group, on day 30 after the first dose, the positive rates of influenza hemagglutination-inhibition antibodies of str

Incidence of varicella and herpes zoster after inclusion of varicella vaccine in national immunization schedule in Turkey: time trend study.

The aim of the study was to investigate changes in the incidences of Varicella and Herpes Zoster (HZ) following introduction of single dose Varicella vaccine (VV) in Turkey. Changes in the incidences of varicella and HZ per 100,000 population were compared with pre (2011-2012) and post-VV period (2018-2019) throughout years between years 2011 and 2019 both for children and adults. In children ≤5 years of age, the annual incidences of varicella significantly decreased from 290 per 100000 children in 2011 to 24 per 100000 children in 2019 [p = .0001]. Also, for children ≤5 years the mean annual

Pertussis vaccine effectiveness following country-wide implementation of a hexavalent acellular pertussis immunization schedule in infants and children in Panama.

Despite high pediatric vaccination coverage rates (VCRs), pertussis incidence has increased worldwide, including in several countries in Latin America in the last two decades. Given the few vaccine effectiveness (VE) studies in Latin American countries, this retrospective, observational, cohort study estimated the effectiveness of hexavalent acellular (aP) primary and booster vaccination (wP) against pertussis in infants (6.5-18.5 months) and children (18.5-48.5 and 48.5-72.5 months) in Panama. Age-specific incidence rates (IRs) were calculated for the vaccine's pre-initiation (2001-2013), ini

Immunogenicity to poliovirus type 2 following two doses of fractional intradermal inactivated poliovirus vaccine: A novel dose sparing immunization schedule.

INTRODUCTION: The polio eradication endgame strategic plan calls for the sequential removal of Sabin poliovirus serotypes from the trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV), starting with type 2, and the introduction of ≥1 dose of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), to maintain an immunity base against poliovirus type 2. The global removal of oral poliovirus type 2 was successfully implemented in May 2016. However, IPV supply constraints has prevented introduction in 21 countries and led to complete stock-out in >20 countries. METHODS: We conducted a literature review and contacted correspon

Impact of the change in polio vaccination schedule on immunization coverage rates: a study in two large health maintenance organizations.

OBJECTIVE: In January 1997, one of the most significant changes to United States vaccine policy occurred when polio immunization guidelines changed to recommend a schedule containing inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). There were concerns that parent or physician reluctance to accept IPV into the routine childhood immunization schedule would lead to lowered coverage. We determined whether adoption of an IPV schedule had a negative impact on immunization coverage. DESIGN: A cohort study of 2 large health maintenance organizations (HMOs), Group Health Cooperative and Kaiser Permanente Northern Cal

Health workers' perceptions and challenges in implementing meningococcal serogroup a conjugate vaccine in the routine childhood immunization schedule in Burkina Faso.

BACKGROUND: Meningococcal serogroup A conjugate vaccine (MACV) was introduced in 2017 into the routine childhood immunization schedule (at 15-18 months of age) in Burkina Faso to help reduce meningococcal meningitis burden. MACV was scheduled to be co-administered with the second dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV2), a vaccine already in the national schedule. One year following the introduction of MACV, an assessment was conducted to qualitatively examine health workers' perceptions of MACV introduction, identify barriers to uptake, and explore opportunities to improve coverage. Immune response and serum bactericidal activity against Brucella ovis elicited using a short immunization schedule with the polymeric antigen BLSOmp31 in rams.

Brucella ovis is the etiologic agent of ovine brucellosis. The control measures for this disease are periodical diagnosis by serological tests and/or bacteriological culture and culling of positive animals. Vaccination with Brucella melitensis Rev 1 is recommended when prevalence is high. This attenuated strain vaccine gives protection against B. ovis but it has important disadvantages associated with the development of antibodies interfering with serodiagnosis, virulence for humans and the prohibition of its use in countries considered free of B. melitensis. Consequently, there is a need for

Rotavirus vaccination coverage and adherence to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)-recommended vaccination schedule--United States, February 2006-May 2007.

Worldwide, rotavirus is the leading cause of severe gastroenteritis in children aged <5 years. In February 2006, a new human-bovine rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq (Merck & Co., Inc., Whitehouse Station, New Jersey), was recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for routine vaccination of U.S. infants. Three doses of RotaTeq are recommended at ages 2, 4, and 6 months. The first dose should be administered between ages 6 and 12 weeks, and vaccination should not be initiated for infants aged >12 weeks. Subsequent doses should be administered at 4-10 week intervals, with a

Vaccinations in adults with chronic inflammatory joint disease: Immunization schedule and recommendations for patients taking synthetic or biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs.

The risk of infection associated with autoimmune diseases is further increased by the use of biotherapies. Recommendations to minimize this risk include administering the full complement of vaccines on the standard immunization schedule, as well as the pneumococcal and influenza vaccines. Adults with chronic inflammatory joint disease (IJD) may receive a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, as well as a live attenuated vaccine against recurrent herpes zoster, recently licensed by European regulatory authorities. Live attenuated vaccines can be given only after an interval without immunosu
