The use of polydimethylsiloxane in the treatment of incontinence after radical prostatectomy.

OBJECTIVE: To report the results of transurethral submucosal injection therapy of polydimethylsiloxane (PDS) to treat incontinence after radical prostatectomy (RP). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Since 1993, about 80 retropubic RPs have been carried out at our institution each year. Severe post-operative incontinence occurred in six patients, with a mean duration of incontinence after RP of 28 months. The pre-operative evaluation consisted of cysto-urethroscopy and urodynamics. Because we have no experience with artificial sphincter implantation, transurethral injection therapy was used to treat the p

What Data Do We Need to Show the Cost and Clinical Effectiveness, Bearing in Mind Sustainability, of Urological Disposables in Different Patient Groups? ICI-RS 2025.

INTRODUCTION: Urological disposables, including catheters, stents, irrigation systems, and incontinence pads, are essential in functional urology but generate large volumes of nonbiodegradable waste. Intermittent self-catheterization is the gold standard for impaired bladder emptying, while disposable pads are a frequent first-line coping strategy for incontinence. Their widespread use presents a growing environmental challenge in healthcare. METHODS: At the 2025 International Consultation on Incontinence-Research Society meeting, a dedicated session examined sustainability in urological disp

[Experience of male transobturator AdVance sling implantation in patients with stress urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy].

For the period from April 2008 to March 2012, 12 men with mild-to-moderate and severe stress urinary incontinence underwent transobturator AdVance sling implantation. In the preoperative period, all patients underwent assessment, including history taking, physical, and instrumental and laboratory examination. Daily pad test was used as an objective method for the assessment of the degree of urinary incontinence. The use no more than one pad a day was considered as recovery, no more than 2 pads or reduction of the loss of urine by more than 50%--as an improvement. Median follow-up period was 28

Alternative uses of dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer: the efficacy of bladder neck injection for urinary incontinence.

PURPOSE: Urinary continence in children with neuropathic bladder and other urological disorders depends on a bladder with adequate low pressure storage capacity and a competent outlet. Various procedures are performed with the goal of achieving continence in these patients. Recently, dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer (Dx/H) has been introduced for the correction of vesicoureteral reflux. We evaluated the efficacy of submucosal bladder neck (BN) injection of Dx/H for urethral incontinence in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed continence status after Dx/H injection
