Theory-informed storytelling for leadership learning in undergraduate nursing education: A qualitative study of first-year nursing students.

BACKGROUND: Leadership is increasingly recognized as a core competency in nursing practice and education. However, leadership education is often introduced in the later stages of undergraduate nursing programs, leaving students uncertain about how leadership applies to clinical practice. Innovative pedagogical approaches are therefore needed to support early leadership development. Storytelling may provide opportunities for students to engage with authentic professional experiences, reflect on leadership behaviours, and connect leadership concepts with future nursing practice. OBJECTIVES: Thi

Translating a Nurse-Led Coping-Sleep-Adherence Bundle Into Routine Cardiovascular Care: A Theory-Informed Implementation Blueprint.

BACKGROUND: Adults with cardiovascular disease frequently experience anxiety, sleep disturbance, and challenges with long-term treatment adherence. These factors are associated with poorer quality of life, reduced engagement in guideline-directed therapy, and increased healthcare utilization. Although nurses are well-positioned to address these needs, nurse-led behavioral interventions often encounter barriers to sustained adoption in routine clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to describe a theory-informed implementation blueprint for integrating a nurse-led coping-sleep-ad

Knowledge and Beliefs Surrounding Nalmefene Among Alabama Pharmacists: A Cross-Sectional Survey Informed by the Theory of Planned Behavior.

The opioid epidemic continues to be a major public health crisis in the United States, and nalmefene has recently emerged as an alternative opioid overdose reversal agent. However, little is known about pharmacists' awareness and beliefs regarding nalmefene use and distribution. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess Alabama pharmacists' knowledge, perceptions, and behavioral intentions related to nalmefene. This study used a cross-sectional survey design. Practicing pharmacists in the state of Alabama were eligible to participate, and were recruited through the Alabama Board of Ph

The Development of Stakeholder-Driven and Theory-Informed Depression Care Decision Aid for Ethnoracially Diverse Communities in Primary Care.

Guided by the Ottawa Decision Support Framework, we created a depression care decision aid for Latinx and African American individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) at a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers. We surveyed 94 African American and Latinx individuals with MDD about their decision making needs. Focus groups elaborated on these preferences. Results show that about half of the sample preferred a collaborative role in decision making. Respondents report greater preference for receiving information about care compared to lower preferences for shared decision making. Focu

Development of BreeZe: a self-management support intervention for burn survivors informed by evidence, theory, and stakeholder co-creation.

BACKGROUND: Following a severe burn injury, individuals embark on a lifelong process of managing and integrating the physical, psychological, and social consequences, including functional limitations, fatigue, altered body image, and psychological trauma. To aid in this process, healthcare professionals can provide self-management support. To date, however, no self-management support intervention has been developed to meet the unique needs and preferences of burn survivors within the context of burn aftercare. In this article, we describe the process of developing a self-management support int

Interprofessional education in palliative care: a theory-informed evaluation of a storyline-based curriculum for health and social care students.

BACKGROUND: Interprofessional education (IPE) in palliative care is essential for fostering collaborative, patient-centred practice. However, existing programs often underrepresent non-medical professions and insufficiently address spiritual care, ethical reflection, and experiential learning, despite the relevance of these aspects to comprehensive, holistic palliative care. This study evaluates an innovative interprofessional curriculum integrating the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) framework, Social Identity Theory (SIT), and Transformative Learning Theory (TLT), desi

Clinical Teaching Fellow Practice Within Complex Clinical-Educational Systems: An Activity Theory-Informed Case Study.

BACKGROUND: Clinical teaching occurs where patient care and education coexist. Within the United Kingdom's National Health Service, workforce pressures constrain teaching and supervision. Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) roles have expanded in response but are often viewed as discrete posts rather than practices situated within complex clinical-educational systems. This study examined how tensions within and across these systems shaped CTF practice. METHODS: This theory-informed exploratory qualitative case study used third-generation Activity Theory. A novel approach for the EEG-driven assessment of divided attention through mutual information theory: A case study at the wheel.

Monitoring how attention is distributed across concurrent task demands is fundamental in daily life contexts such as mobility, education and industrial control. However, existing neurophysiological measures, typically based on univariate EEG markers, are sensitive to generic cognitive load, visual complexity, or motor activity, and therefore lack specificity for attentional splitting. Here, we introduce the Attentional Split Index (ASI), a novel EEG-based metric that employ Mutual Information (MI) theory, designed to quantify the coordinated modulation of multiple neurometrics that emerges whe

Social cognition and trust: Exploring the role of theory of mind and hostile attribution bias in children's skepticism of inaccurate informants.

A growing body of research has examined the role of individual differences in children's selective trust. The current study was designed to explore how individual differences in theory of mind and hostile attribution bias affect children's trust. Four- and five-year-old children took part in a standard selective trust paradigm in which they had the choice between a previously inaccurate informant and an unfamiliar informant. They were also asked to interpret why the previously inaccurate informant had provided incorrect information in the past. Finally, children completed a hostile attribution

Adapting dialectical behaviour therapy in forensic learning disability services: A grounded theory informed study of "what works".

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence indicates effectiveness of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) for people with intellectual disabilities (PWID) in forensic settings; however, little is known about "what works" facilitating engagement and change. METHODS: Eleven interviews were conducted with nine service users across two secure inpatient services. Grounded theory was used to develop a model of perceived engagement and change. RESULTS: The model provides insights into how change occurs during DBT delivered in forensic settings. DBT constitutes a challenging journey, yet provides the motivation

Three-way multi-criteria decision-making with linguistic information using prospect-regret theory and generalised TODIM for heart failure data analysis.

Cardiovascular disease is a leading global cause of mortality, and timely monitoring can help assess its severity. Electronic medical records contain information on patients’ symptoms, physical characteristics, and clinical laboratory test results. These data can be used in biostatistical analysis to identify patterns and relationships that may not be apparent to medical practitioners. However, when experts confront risk in complex settings, their bounded rationality may influence their decision-making behaviour. Moreover, the irrational behaviour of a single expert can substantially affect de

Online patient education and risk assessment: project OPERA from Cancerbackup. Putting inherited breast cancer risk information into context using argumentation theory.

OBJECTIVE: Many people are concerned about their family history of breast cancer, and are anxious about the possibility of developing breast cancer themselves. The majority of these people are likely not to be at significantly increased risk of developing inherited breast cancer. All women are at risk of developing sporadic breast cancer, and this risk increases with age. This project aims to aid people's understanding of these issues using an interactive online computer programme. METHODS: The UK National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence has published guidance for the National Hea

Using social judgment theory to study occupational therapists' use of information when making driver licensing recommendations for older and functionally impaired adults.

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to identify the informational cues that driver-assessor-trained occupational therapists (DATOTs) consider when making driver licensing recommendations for older and functionally impaired clients. Relatively little research supports these complex decisions. METHOD: A survey using a social judgment theory framework was mailed to all practicing registered DATOTs in Victoria, Australia. RESULTS: Cue mean rank order, as calculated across the 56 responses (return rate, 78%), revealed that the four most important cues were driving instructor interventions, driver behavi

A Bayesian multilevel path model of college students' pickleball participation motivation: Theory-informed priors and hierarchical random intercepts.

Despite explosive global growth of pickleball, motivational processes underlying college student participation remain poorly understood. We present a Bayesian multilevel path model integrating theory-informed priors with hierarchical random intercepts for grade and major. A total of 1992 college students from 12 higher-education institutions across six provinces of China completed validated measures. Using brms (v2.21.0) in R (v4.3.1) with Stan (v2.32), results showed psychological needs as the dominant predictor (β = 0.613, 95% CrI [0.532, 0.692]), followed by environmental factors (β = 0.118

Neurochemically informed network control theory reveals energetic dysregulation of altered brain state dynamics in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

AIM: Previous studies assessed dynamic functional connectivity in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) by the sliding-window approach, limiting sensitivity to rapid neural fluctuations. Moreover, the mechanisms underlying dynamic transitions between brain states also remain unknown. Therefore, the study aimed to explore the dynamic neural mechanisms of OCD by characterizing state dynamic patterns and the underlying energy basis. METHODS: The study recruited 198 OCD patients and 109 healthy controls, characterizing altered state dynamic patterns and underlying control energy in OCD by integrati

Global prevalence and biopsychosocial correlates of psychological distress among people living with HIV: an updated theory-informed meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Psychological distress (PD) is common among people living with HIV (PLWH), but prevalence estimates vary substantially. This study aimed to synthesize the prevalence of PD among PLWH and examine its heterogeneity and associated factors. METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020, we systematically searched seven electronic databases from inception to June 20, 2025, for observational studies on PD prevalence and associated factors among PLWH. PD was operationalized as a binary outcome using validated self-report instruments with explicit cut-offs. The pooled prevalence was estimated using a
