Intraarticular (IA) injections of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in idiopathic osteoarthritis (OA) have shown encouraging results in the literature. Hemophilic arthropathy (HA) represents an enormous societal burden. The similarity between OA and HA is very limited. HA resembles much more to the rheumatoid arthritis because a presence of thick synovial membrane and large lymphocytes infiltration. However, in its final stages, HA resembles OA and that is when IA injections of MSCs are commonly used. In this article, we review the concept of IA injections of MSCs as a treatment for HA, using the

Intralesional and intra-articular corticosteroids are commonly used therapies in the fields of dermatology, orthopedic surgery and rheumatology. The authors present the case of a 32-year-old female who received intra-articular corticosteroids for de Quervain's tendonitis and developed bilateral hypopigmented patches near the areas of injection. Unilateral linear extension of the hypopigmentation was subsequently noted, presumably secondary to venous or lymphatic uptake of corticosteroid crystals. The patient complained of temperature sensitivity and increased skin fragility affecting all of th

INTRODUCTION: Recent studies have revealed that rapamycin activates autophagy in human chondrocytes preventing the development of osteoarthritis (OA) like changes in vitro, while the systemic injection of rapamycin reduces the severity of experimental osteoarthritis in a murine model of OA in vivo. Since the systemic use of rapamycin is associated with numerous side effects, the goal of the current study was to examine the beneficial effect of local intra-articular injection of rapamycin in a murine model of OA and to elucidate the mechanism of action of rapamycin on articular cartilage.

Our pilot study aimed to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of intra-articular (i.a.) injections of infliximab as a therapy for erosive osteoarthritis of the hands. Ten women with bilateral involvement of the hands and typical erosive osteoarthritis radiographic findings were enrolled and followed for 12 months. All the patients were refractory to conventional drugs. Treatment consisted in monthly i.a. injections of 0.2 ml of infliximab (0.1 mg/ml) in each affected proximal and distal interphalangeal joint of the most involved hand, identified on the basis of clinical and radiological e

INTRODUCTION: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a highly prevalent condition worldwide, resulting in a significant symptom burden and diminished quality of life. Mainstays of KOA management include weight loss, exercise, physical activity, and simple analgesia, with joint replacement as a last resort. Intra-articular injections, especially corticosteroids, have been increasingly used to provide symptomatic relief when simple analgesia fails. However, the efficacy and safety of intra-articular corticosteroid injections (IACS) remain poorly established.

INTRODUCTION: Fluoroscopy and Computed Tomography (CT) are the reference standards for verifying needle placement when undertaking an Intra-articular (IA) Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) injection. The use of Ultrasound (US) for performing SIJ injections has become a focus in recent years, as it eliminates radiation exposure. This systematic review aimed to compare the efficacy of US, CT, and Fluoroscopy when undertaking SIJ injections.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted using the databases Embase, PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus. The included studies were published in English (January 2003 to Marc

INTRODUCTION: Steroid arthropathy is a relatively rare but serious complication of intra-articular corticosteroid injections, characterized by rapid joint destruction. Although intra-articular steroid injections are widely used for short-term pain relief in osteoarthritis, their potential risks remain underrecognized. We report a rare case of bilateral steroid arthropathy of the hip following repeated intra-articular steroid injections.
CASE REPORT: A 60-year-old woman with bilateral hip osteoarthritis received multiple steroid injections into both hip joints over a 4-month period. Although t

BACKGROUND: Intra-articular knee injections are essential for osteoarthritis management but often limited by "needle phobia" and procedural pain. The cryostick, a high-thermal-conductivity device, is a potential analgesic; however, evidence regarding its efficacy in reducing pain and bleeding is limited. The purpose of the study was to evaluate whether cryostick application reduces procedural pain, reduces bleeding, and improves patient satisfaction during intra-articular knee injections.
METHODS: This randomized, contralateral-controlled trial included 50 patients (100 knees) with bilateral
