The effective time course of a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, MK-507, on intraocular pressure (IOP) was studied in 6 normal volunteers. As a baseline study, IOP was determined and aqueous protein concentration was determined by laser flare photometry every half hour for 5 hours with the instillation of a placebo. Then, an examination with the same time course was performed on the same subjects with the instillation of 1% MK-507 or oral administration of acetazolamide at a dose of 250 mg. PURPOSE: To investigate the interaction and compatibility between a soft contact lens (SCL) and an ophthalmic drug.

Testicular hydroceles recurred within 6 months in 7 of 15 patients (46.7%) treated by aspiration and instillation of tetracycline. There was objective reduction in the size of the hydrocele in three patients (20%) but only five (33.3%) were cured. Severe pain was a complication in seven cases. This form of treatment is not recommended.

OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was twofold: to determine the distribution of the endogenous photosensitizer protoporphyrin IX in the uterus and to ascertain the time interval leading to maximal endometrial fluorescence after intrauterine instillation of 5-aminolevulinic acid.
STUDY DESIGN: One milliliter of a 400 mg/ml 5-aminolevulinic acid-Hyskon solution was instilled into the uterine cavity of 27 women before hysterectomy. On frozen sections of uterine samples 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced fluorescence was measured with fluorescence microscopy.

A new type of silicone rubber catheter with two balloons and four channels is introduced for the treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis. Through this specially conceived catheter, a drug can be instilled in the posterior urethra, the two balloons blocking the drug from passing either into the bladder or the membranous urethra. Treatment has been applied in 212 cases of chronic bacterial prostatitis with very good results.
