[Conradi-Hünermann-Happle syndrome].

BACKGROUND: Conradi-Hünermann-Happle syndrome is caused by a mutation in the emopanil binding protein-gene (EBP), which encodes the enzyme 3β-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase-δ8,7 isomerase. This gene is involved in cholesterol metabolism. CASE DESCRIPTION: In this case report we describe a girl aged 19 months with Conradi-Hünermann-Happle syndrome. This syndrome was characterized in this patient by a complete erythrodermia directly after birth, followed by linear ichthyosis, shortened upper arms and thighs, vertebral anomalies resulting in progressive scoliosis and cataract. The patient's mother

Interdisciplinary treatment and ophthalmological findings in Parry-Romberg syndrome.

Parry-Romberg syndrome is a rare pathologic process, characterized by progressive hemifacial atrophy. A case of Parry-Romberg syndrome with ocular involvement is reported. A 27-year-old male patient with Parry-Romberg syndrome was interdisciplinary investigated and treated. For reconstruction of hemifacial soft tissues a free vascular parascapular graft was performed. Opthalmological findings included an evident enophthalmos and an eyelid lag with keratopathy and epiphora. Furthermore pupillary disturbances and endothelial precipitates were detectable. Complete fundus examination showed a unil

The need for an interdisciplinary network of investigations on HHT.

In the last years, the understanding of HHT has greatly progressed. The two genes for most on cromosomes 9 and 12 have been discovered and the existence of a third involved gene has been predicted. Recent progress in the field of genetics has allowed the identification of many gene mutation thus facilitating the characterisation of the at risk members of the same family. Complications from bleeding or shunting (pulmonary AVMs) may be sudden and life-threatening (hemothorax, haemoptysis, stroke and brain abscess). Catastrophic events are preventable by early diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate

The Importance of Interdisciplinary Care in the Management of Postpartum Hypertensive Crisis.

Postpartum hypertension can significantly increase maternal morbidity and mortality, and hence it requires prompt interdisciplinary evaluation and interventions. We present a case of a gravid patient with significant comorbidities who required multiple treatments and care from several specialists following a complicated vaginal delivery. The outcome of this case depended on a focused differential diagnosis and interdisciplinary consultation with the several teams involved. This case report illustrates the importance of effective communication and an interdisciplinary approach in the management

Cancer Reporting Protocols in Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor: Standardized Reporting of Bladder Cancer and Improvement of Communication between Pathologists and Urologists.

INTRODUCTION: The College of American Pathologists (CAP) provides synoptic reporting (SR) histopathological protocols for various malignancies, e.g., for bladder cancer. We investigated whether SR can enhance the quality of histopathological reporting at our institution. Specifically, we examined whether SR supports pathologists in report preparation and whether urologists of varying training levels fully understand the histopathological information in narrative reports (NR). METHODS: We investigated the transcription of semantic reports into synoptic CAP protocols by pathologists and clinici

Cultural, Religious, and Spiritual Influences on Communication in Pediatric Palliative Care: A Narrative Review Focused on Children with Severe Neurological Conditions.

Pediatric palliative care (PPC) aims to enhance the quality of life of children with life-limiting conditions and their families through individualized, interdisciplinary support. Among this population, children with neurological diseases represent a substantial and growing group, often facing prolonged disease courses, cognitive impairment, and high prognostic uncertainty. Effective communication is central to PPC; however, it remains deeply influenced by cultural, religious, and spiritual frameworks that shape family perceptions of illness, suffering, and decision-making. This narrative revi

A learner-led conference to enhance interdisciplinary social accountability education in healthcare: participant perspectives on engagement and educational experience.

We developed the Interdisciplinary Social Accountability Conference in Healthcare to address educational gaps and empower learners to advocate for healthcare needs. This conference aimed to strengthen social accountability competencies in students through three areas: (1) a learner-led planning model that promotes initiative-taking and leadership, (2) interactive sessions on locally relevant topics, and (3) a student research showcase to foster interdisciplinary dialogue. Survey findings demonstrated high engagement and positive experiences with cross-disciplinary networking. We encourage inst

Multidisciplinary approach for hidradenitis suppurativa patients.

Hidradenitis suppurativa or acne inversa is an inflammatory, chronic disease of the hair follicles located in specific areas of the skin surface (axillae, submammary, inguinal and intergluteal folds, pubis, genitalia and buttocks). The diagnosis and the management of this disease are usually made by the dermatologist. However, the frequent association of hidradenitis suppurativa or acne inversa with important systemic comorbidities needs the cooperation with a number of specialists. In particular, the cooperation with rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, microbiologists/infe

The quest for a true One Health perspective of brucellosis.

One Health is an interdisciplinary collaboration that aims at mitigating risks to human health arising from microorganisms present in non-human animal species, which have the potential to be transmitted and cause disease in humans. Different degrees of scientific collaboration and sectoral integration are needed for different types of zoonotic diseases, depending on the health and associated economic gains that can be expected from a One Health approach. Indeed, mitigating zoonotic risks related to emerging diseases with pandemic potential is different from mitigating risks related to endemic

A global, multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial initiative to combat leptospirosis: Global Leptospirosis Environmental Action Network (GLEAN).

Leptospirosis has emerged as a major public health problem in both animals and humans. The true burden of this epidemic and endemic disease is likely to be grossly under-estimated due to the non-specific clinical presentations of the disease and the difficulty of laboratory confirmation. The complexity that surrounds the transmission dynamics, particularly in epidemic situations, requires a coordinated, multi-disciplinary effort. Therefore, the Global Leptospirosis Environmental Action Network (GLEAN) was developed to improve global and local strategies of how to predict, prevent, detect, and

Contraindications to the Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre: a multidisciplinary review.

The Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre is widely used in the diagnosis of positional vertigo and is regarded as safe. The manoeuvre involves a degree of neck rotation and extension, and consequently one might expect there to be some patients, particularly those with neck problems, in whom the manoeuvre is contraindicated. The term 'neck problem', however, encompasses a whole range of conditions, including soft tissue disorders, cervical spondylosis, prolapsed intervertebral disk, and severe rheumatoid arthritis with cervical instability. These in turn will give rise to a variety of symptoms, which will va

Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias Summit 2019: National Research Priorities for the Investigation of Traumatic Brain Injury as a Risk Factor for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a risk factor for later-life dementia. Clinical and pre-clinical studies have elucidated multiple mechanisms through which TBI may influence or exacerbate multiple pathological processes underlying Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD). The National Institutes of Health hosts triennial ADRD Summits to inform a national research agenda, and the 2019 ADRD Summit was the first to highlight "TBI and AD/ADRD Risk" as an emerging topic in the field. A multidisciplinary committee of TBI researchers with relevant expertise reviewed exta

Redesigning Intensive Care Unit Rounds to Improve Collaboration at a Military Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Team communication is essential to delivering health care safely. Nurses in the adult intensive care unit at a large military treatment facility were not consistently present in daily patient rounds and stated that team communication could be improved. This clinical question was developed: among critical care staff members, how does a standardized daily rounding script, compared with current practice, impact interdisciplinary communication over a 36-week period? REVIEW OF EVIDENCE: Current literature includes 3 themes: rounds should be interdisciplinary; include the ABCDEF bundle
