BACKGROUND: Tinnitus is a common medical symptom that can affect an individual's emotional and functional quality of life. Psychological therapies are acknowledged as beneficial to people with tinnitus; however, such therapies are not always readily accessible. With their global reach, automated Internet-based interventions have the potential to reduce the disparity in access to psychological support that people with tinnitus currently experience. However, the evidence on the acceptability and efficacy of these interventions is lacking. Process evaluations that develop an in-depth understandin

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of an Internet-based patient education intervention, which was designed upon principles of personalization and participatory design.
METHODS: Fifteen months after the first release of the website, 209 fibromyalgia patients recruited through health professionals completed an online questionnaire to assess patients' use of the website, health knowledge, self-management behavior, and health outcomes. These constructs were combined into an a-priory model that was tested using a structural equation modeling approach.
RESULTS: Results show that the usage o

BACKGROUND: Depression is a common mental health disorder with a wide treatment gap despite the availability of a number of effective treatment options. Blended interventions adopt a novel approach in combining internet-based self-help with brief face-to-face sessions thereby combining the advantages of both approaches and offering scope to address the treatment gap. The present study examined the effectiveness of a blended intervention combining the use of guided internet-based self-help with four to six face-to-face sessions in the treatment of mild to moderate depression.

BACKGROUND: There is an increasing prevalence of mental health problems among university student populations. In Indonesia, treatment rates are low among university students because of the high cost of treatment, stigma and the limited availability of mental care services. Internet-based interventions have been found to be effective in treating anxiety and depression in Western countries. However, little is known about the effectiveness of Internet-based interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Indonesia. In this paper, we describe how we culturally adapted an Internet

BACKGROUND: The postpartum period presents several challenges related to learning infant care tasks, getting to know the infant and fulfilling self-expectations as parents. There is a need to evaluate the effectiveness of information-technology-based interventions that support parenting during this period.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of an internet-based intervention to support mothers' and fathers' parenting satisfaction and parenting self-efficacy (PSE).
DESIGN: A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group and repeated measures.

IMPORTANCE: Fatigue is a chronic and distressing sequela of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Little evidence exists for the efficacy of interventions that address post-TBI fatigue.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the preliminary efficacy of a self-management intervention (Maximizing Energy; MAX) for reducing the impact (primary outcome) and severity of fatigue on daily life, improving fatigue experience, and increasing participation compared with a health education (HE) intervention.
DESIGN: Pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT).
SETTING: Community.

BACKGROUND: Existing internet-based prevention and treatment programmes for binge eating are composed of multiple distinct modules that are designed to target a broad range of risk or maintaining factors. Such multi-modular programmes (1) may be unnecessarily long for those who do not require a full course of intervention and (2) make it difficult to distinguish those techniques that are effective from those that are redundant. Since dietary restraint is a well-replicated risk and maintaining factor for binge eating, we developed an internet- and app-based intervention composed solely of cogni

UNLABELLED: Gambling Disorder is a prevalent non-substance use disorder, which contrasts with the low number of people requesting treatment. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) could help to enhance the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and considerably reduce the costs. The current study seeks to assess the efficacy of an online psychological intervention for people suffering from gambling problems in Spain. The proposed study will be a two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial. A total of 134 participants (problem and pathological gamblers) will be randomly a

OBJECTIVES: Internet- and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) offer the opportunity to deliver mental health treatments on a large scale. This randomized controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of an unguided IMI (StudiCare SAD) for university students with social anxiety disorder (SAD).
METHODS: University students (N = 200) diagnosed with SAD were randomly assigned to an IMI or a waitlist control group (WLC) with full access to treatment as usual. StudiCare SAD consists of nine sessions. The primary outcome was SAD symptoms at posttreatment (10 weeks), assessed via the Social Phobia Scale (SP

Although psychological interventions might have a tremendous potential for the prevention of mental health disorders (MHD), their current impact on the reduction of disease burden is questionable. Possible reasons include that it is not practical to deliver those interventions to the community en masse due to limited health care resources and the limited availability of evidence-based interventions and clinicians in routine practice, especially in rural areas. Therefore, new approaches are needed to maximize the impact of psychological preventive interventions. Limitations of traditional preve

This study investigated moderators of intervention response in a fully automated Internet-based monitoring and feedback intervention ('Featback') with different levels of therapist support for individuals with eating disorder (ED) symptoms. This study was part of a randomized controlled trial comparing four conditions: 1) Featback, 2) Featback with low-intensity (weekly) therapist support, 3) Featback with high-intensity (three times a week) therapist support, and 4) a waiting list. A total of 273 participants completed baseline and post-intervention assessments. The outcome measure was ED psy

Evidence-based online treatments for internet use disorders (IUD) are poorly studied. The online-based, therapist-guided, motivational intervention program for internet use disorder (OMPRIS) has shown significant effects on reducing IUD symptoms, while the symptoms remained high in the waiting control group. The current study presents a 2-year follow-up analysis of the IUD symptoms. Participants in the OMPRIS study were followed up 2 years after the intervention. The primary outcome was a reduction in IUD symptoms. Secondary outcomes were time spent on the internet, depression and anxiety symp

OBJECTIVES: Living donor kidney transplantation is currently the preferred treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. A subgroup of the kidney donor population experiences adjustment problems during or after the donation procedure (eg, anxiety or fatigue). There is a need for evidence-based interventions that decrease donation-related difficulties before or after donation. In the current study, a guided and tailored internet-based cognitive-behavioural therapy (ICBT) intervention for donors and donor candidates was developed and the feasibility and perceived effectiveness were evalua

BACKGROUND: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) experience significant psychological distress, impacting outcomes. While mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are beneficial, access is limited. Internet-delivered MBIs (iMBIs) offer an accessible alternative; yet, qualitative understanding of patient experiences with tailored iMBIs for this specific population is lacking.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the facilitators and barriers of patients with HCC post TACE and participated in tailored iMBIs.
METHODS: From November 2020

BACKGROUND: Depression is a significant global challenge. Particularly in Spain, depression in Primary Care (PC) settings is prevalent and inadequately addressed. Online interventions, such as "Smiling is Fun", an online Cognitive Behavioral program, offer promising solutions given its scalability and accessibility. However, successful implementation in real-world settings requires identifying and addressing contextual barriers. This study aims to implement "Smiling is Fun" while assessing its effectiveness and the determinants influencing its implementation.

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain often clusters in families, where parents and their offspring both experience chronic pain conditions. Young children of parents with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) represent an at-risk group for the development of abdominal pain, disability, and excess health care visits in later childhood. Parental solicitous responses to children's expressions of discomfort and maternal modeling of their own illness behavior contribute to a greater focus on somatic sensations, leading to illness behaviors in children. This randomized controlled trial will test the effectiveness of a
