Complete thrombotic occlusion of the arterial blood flow in the upper extremity was produced after mixture of Isovue 370 (iopamidol) and papaverine hydrochloride during routine angiography. Bolus and then continuous infusion of urokinase failed to dissolve the thrombus. The patient required a surgical thrombectomy and recovered uneventfully. This case report demonstrates that caution should be exercised when Isovue 370 and papaverine are used in angiography.

Bacterial meningitis is a rare complication of myelography. Most reported cases are due to miscellaneous streptococci, but the source of these organisms is uncertain. The differential diagnosis of chemical meningitis caused by the contrast material vs. bacterial meningitis may be difficult. We recently treated three patients with streptococcal meningitis following myelography performed with the contrast medium iopamidol. We discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to postmyelography meningitis.

A study comparing the effects of diatrizoate, ioxitalamate, metrizamide, ioxaglate, iopamidol and a hyperosmotic sorbitol and sodium chloride solution on the endothelium of the vena cava of the rat was performed. In each case 1 ml. of the respective solution was injected intravenously. Endothelial damage was seen after injection of metrizamide, diatrizoate and ioxitalamate. After injection of ioxaglate only minor endothelial changes were observed, whereas after administration of both hyperosmotic solution no endothelial damage could be observed.

BACKGROUND: Exogenous iodine interferes with the uptake of radioactive iodine (131I) by the thyroid gland. This has potential implications for the treatment of cats with hyperthyroidism that have recently undergone computed tomography (CT) with IV administration of iodinated contrast medium (ICM).
HYPOTHESIS: To determine the time to normalize urinary iodine clearance after administration of ICM. We hypothesized that it would require 4 weeks for urinary iodine concentration (UIC) to decrease to baseline after IV administration of ICM.
