[Value of ipratropium (Atrovent) in the treatment of chronic obstructive lung diseases in myasthenic patients treated with anticholinesterase agents. Apropos of a case].

We report a case of myasthenia gravis occurring in a 70-year old patient with old chronic bronchitis. Anticholinesterase therapy led to an increase in respiratory symptoms, but relief was obtained with inhaled ipratropium. The activity of this drug was confirmed by spirography. This clinical finding is compared with similar data found in the literature.

Ipratropium Bromide/Salbutamol-Induced Acute Urinary Retention as a Result of Medication Error: A Case Report and Review of Cases in the Literature.

Medication errors have the potential to cause serious toxicity and hospitalization. This case report describes a 25-year woman who suffered serious side effects and was ‎hospitalized after receiving intravenous ipratropium bromide/salbutamol. This was due to a medication error in its preparation and administration. The caregiver diluted an intravenous antibiotic with the incorrect diluent (nebulizer solution), which led to serious toxicity, including acute urine retention and sinus tachycardia, and then resulted in patient hospitalization. A literature review of case reports was conducted to c

[Pharmacological prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm: review of the literature and trial of disodium cromoglycate, fenoterol and ipratropium bromide in a pediatric population].

Exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) is an instrumentally-measurable paraphysiologic phenomenon, related to bronchial hyperreactivity in asthmatic children. Therefore EIB is very useful to evaluate airways hyperreactivity and pharmacological treatment in asthmatic child. We have evaluate EIB inhibition and bronchodilator effect of three drugs: Disodiumcromoglycate (DSCG), Fenoterol (F), Ipratropium Bromide (IB), in a group of 27 asymptomatic and therapy-free asthmatic children. The bronchial provocation test was performed by physical exercise (free-running for six minutes) according to criteria

Ipratropium is 'luminally recycled' by an inter-play between apical uptake and efflux transporters in Calu-3 bronchial epithelial cell layers.

The mechanism by which quaternized anticholinergic bronchodilators permeate the airway epithelium remains controversial to date. In order to elucidate the role of drug transporters, ipratropium bidirectional transport as well as accumulation and release studies were performed in layers of the broncho-epithelial cell line Calu-3 grown at an air-liquid interface, in presence or absence of a range of transporter inhibitors. Unexpectedly, a higher transepithelial permeability was observed in the secretory direction, with an apparent efflux ratio of > 4. Concentration-dependent and inhibitor studie

Ecofriendly colorimetric set-up coupled with mathematical filtration strategy for simultaneous determination of ipratropium and fenoterol in their novel anti-asthmatic metered dose inhaler.

Ipratropium bromide (IPR) and fenoterol hydrobromide (FEN) are well-known medications for treating asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A simple, feasible, efficient, and cost-effective colorimetric assay has been established for determination of the newly introduced co-formulated metered dose inhaler (Atrovent® comp HFA). The developed method is based on the properly optimized reaction of drugs under study with the charge transfer reagent 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), resulting in orange-colored complexes measured at 464.3 and 514.0 nm for IPR and FEN, r

Protective effect of ipratropium bromide on bronchoconstriction induced by sulfur dioxide exposure during apricot sufurization processes that causes asthma-like syndrome in agricultural environment.

We previously showed that apricot sulfurization workers are exposed to high concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2), resulting in an asthma-like syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate whether pre-treatment of ipratropium bromide protects bronchoconstriction induced by SO2 exposure during apricot sulfurization processes that causes asthma-like syndrome. Firstly, pulmonary function tests were measured before and immediately after SO2 exposure due to processes of apricot sulfurization in 21 healthy volunteer apricot sulfurization workers who did not use any medication in apricot farms.

Transport of ipratropium, an anti-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease drug, is mediated by organic cation/carnitine transporters in human bronchial epithelial cells: implications for carrier-mediated pulmonary absorption.

Ipratropium bromide, an anticholinergic drug used for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, has low oral bioavailability, but systemic exposure, superior to oral administration, can be achieved by inhalation. Therefore, we investigated the pulmonary absorption mechanism of ipratropium using human bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B cells. [3H]Ipratropium uptake by BEAS-2B cells was temperature-dependent and saturable, with a K(m) value of 78.0 microM, suggesting involvement of carrier-mediated uptake. An RT-PCR study showed that organic cation/carnitine transporters OCTN1

Long-acting dual bronchodilator therapy (indacaterol/glycopyrronium) versus nebulized short-acting dual bronchodilator (salbutamol/ipratropium) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Most guidelines recommend long-acting bronchodilators over short-acting bronchodilators for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The available evidence for the guidelines was based on dry powder or pressurized metered dose inhalers, but not nebulizations. Nevertheless, there is considerable, poorly evidenced based, use of short acting nebulized bronchodilators. METHODS: This was an investigator initiated, randomized, active controlled, cross-over, double-blind and double-dummy single centre study in patients with stable COPD. The active comparators were in
