PURPOSE: To understand whether the epithelial phenotype in total sclerocornea is corneal or conjunctival in origin.
METHODS: Four cases of total sclerocornea (male:female = 1:3; mean age = 5.4 ± 4.3; 1-11 years old) who received penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) at our hospital between 2008 and 2011 were included. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this paper is to introduce an effective technique to easily obtain adequate amounts of keratinized gingiva and vestibular depth.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Free gingiva (vertical height 10 mm) was harvested on the palatal mucosa and a partial thickness flap was elevated on the recipient site with same width as the free gingiva graft. After a conventional suture, a titanium mesh covered the graft and was fixed with miniscrews. Titanium mesh was removed 4.1±2.5 weeks after surgery. The amount of keratinized gingiva and vestibular depth was measured at the final follow-up.

Cancers of the anus, whether keratinizing squamous, nonkeratinizing, clear-cell, or melanoma, are infrequent neoplasms. Three cases of keratosis follicularis squamosa (Dohi) and one case of papillomatose confluente et reticulee were successfully treated with oral minocycline (50-100 mg/day). The clinical effect first appeared at 2 weeks after the initiation of therapy and no recurrence was observed for more than 3 months without minocycline. Gram positive cocci were demonstrated inside the hair follicle and horny layers in all 4 case. Minocycline might modulate abberant keratinization through its bactericidal effects in these keratinizing disorders.
