Factors Affecting Length of Inpatient Forensic Stay: Retrospective Study From Czechia.

OBJECTIVES: The length of forensic stay (LoS) is a subject to country-specific legal and service systems. Therefore, the identification of common factors targetable by treatment is at the forefront of forensic psychiatric research. In this study, we present the first reports of forensic characteristics of patients from the Czechia. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from 260 inpatients discharged from the Bohnice Hospital (Prague) and obtained a set of sociodemographic and clinical variables as well as the Health of the Nation Outcome Scale (HoNOS) and HoNOS-secure scores.

Reducing Patient Length of Stay After Surgical Correction for Neuromuscular Scoliosis.

BACKGROUND: Surgical correction remains the most effective treatment of patients with severe neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS). However, postoperative inpatient clinical care after spinal surgery for NMS patients is highly complex and variable, depending on the provider and/or institution. Our project used a quality improvement methodology to implement a standardized clinical care pathway for NMS patients during their primary spinal surgery, with the global aim of decreasing postoperative hospitalized length of stay (LOS). METHODS: A multidisciplinary team developed a postoperative pathway for no

What's in a day? Determining intensive care unit length of stay.

OBJECTIVE: Intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS) and hospital LOS are common indices used to compare performance of hospitals and are yardsticks used in efforts to contain costs, yet there is no standardized method of quantitating this outcome variable. Attempts have been made to correct LOS according to disease severity. The aim of this study was to quantify and compare ICU LOS using four commonly used methods and to determine the relationship between severity of illness at admission as determined by the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II and APACHE III scorin

Risk factors for length of NICU stay of newborns: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The improvement in survival of preterm infants is accompanied by an increase in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions. Prolonged length of stay in the NICU (LOS-NICU) increases the incidence of neonatal complications and even mortality and places a significant economic burden on families and strain on healthcare systems. This review aims to identify risk factors influencing LOS-NICU of newborns and to provide a basis for interventions to shorten LOS-NICU and avoid prolonged LOS-NICU. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase,

Predictors of increased postoperative length of stay after complete atrioventricular canal repair.

BACKGROUND: The optimal timing of surgical repair for infants with complete atrioventricular canal defect remains controversial, as there are risks to both early and late repair. We address this debate by investigating the association of various risk factors, including age and weight at surgery, markers of failure to thrive, and pulmonary vascular disease, with postoperative length of stay following complete atrioventricular canal repair. METHODS: Infants who underwent repair of complete atrioventricular canal were identified from our institutional Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Hear
