Health service use among adults with cerebral palsy: a mixed methods systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurodisability that primarily results in motor impairments and activity limitations, but is often associated with epilepsy and disturbances of sensation, perception, cognition, behaviour and speech. Most children with CP survive well into adulthood. Adults with CP experience increased risk of age-related chronic conditions such as arthritis, stroke, cardiorespiratory and mental health conditions in addition to the ongoing disabilities experienced from childhood. Therefore, adults with CP often require extensive health services. However, health service us

Micronutrient and protein-energy supplementation enhance vaccine responses in undernourished children: Evidence from a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition impairs immune function and vaccine responses, particularly in low-income settings. This can lead to reduced seroconversion rates and compromised herd immunity in children. Nutritional interventions have been proposed to enhance vaccine immunogenicity, yet evidence remains scattered and context specific. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review assesses the impact of nutritional interventions-especially vitamin A, zinc supplementation, and protein-energy rehabilitation-on serological responses to routine childhood vaccines among malnourished children in low- and middle-incom

Confronting the opioid crisis with consumer health information: a look at East Tennessee.

BACKGROUND: Starting in the 1990s, health care providers began prescribing opioids to patients as pain relievers, believing they were safe. However, many patients became addicted to these pills. In 2017, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency to fight the opioid epidemic. This crisis was prevalent in East Tennessee, where many residents were prescribed opioids. CASE PRESENTATION: Librarians at an academic medical center library in East Tennessee analyzed the health information requests related to pain, mental health, and addiction over the last fifte

Assertive Community Treatment and ACT-Derived Outreach Models: A Scoping Review of Adaptations, Fidelity and Outcomes.

UNLABELLED: Severe Mental Illness (SMI) represents a significant public health challenge associated with long-term disability, premature mortality, and high social and health care costs. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an intensive community-based model for people with SMI who have difficulty engaging with conventional services and are at high risk of repeated hospitalizations. Over time, this model has been adapted to meet diverse needs, contexts, and populations. To map and synthesize evidence on ACT and ACT-derived outreach models, including adaptations, fidelity-related characterist

HIV epidemiology and responses among men who have sex with men and transgender individuals in China: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Despite global efforts to control HIV among key populations, new infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender (TG) individuals are still increasing. The increasing HIV epidemic among MSM/TG in China indicates that more effective services are urgently needed. However, policymakers and program managers must have a clear understanding of MSM/TG sexual health in China to improve service delivery. To meet this need, we undertook a scoping review to summarize HIV epidemiology and responses among MSM and TG individuals in China. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE an

Harm reduction services in female prisons: a scoping review exploring the situation in the MENA region.

PURPOSE: This study aims to explore and map the existing evidence on HR services, specifically NSP and OST, available to women in prison settings across MENA countries where such services are reported to exist, assessing their availability, accessibility, and gender responsiveness while identifying gaps in research, policy, and practice. Harm reduction (HR) is a public health and human rights approach aimed at reducing drug-related harms through interventions such as Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) and needle and syringe programs (NSPs). People who use drugs (PWUDs) in prison face elevated r

Comparative and synergistic effects of digital devices and Child Life services in pediatric clinical practice: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Examinations and treatments in pediatric healthcare settings may cause anxiety, fear, and psychological distress among children. Child Life services provide psychosocial support through therapeutic play, procedural preparation, and emotional support to help children cope with medical experiences. Meanwhile, digital devices, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), tablet-based applications, and video-based tools, have been increasingly applied to support children during healthcare procedures. However, differences in study populations, intervention designs, and outcom

The Motivations of Citizens to Attend an eHealth Course in the Public Library: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: There is worldwide recognition of the potential increase of digital health inequity due to the increased digitalization of health care systems. Digital health skill development may prevent disparities in eHealth access and use. In the Dutch context, the public library has started to facilitate support in digital health skill development by offering public eHealth courses. Understanding the motivations of people to seek support may help to further develop this type of public service. OBJECTIVE: This is a qualitative study on the motivations of citizens participating in an eHealth c

Primary Health Care Systems and Their Contribution to Universal Health Coverage and Improved Health Status in Seven Countries: An Explanatory Mixed-Methods Review.

BACKGROUND: Primary health care (PHC) systems and their successes and challenges vary between and within countries. We elucidate the role of PHC on health status and universal health coverage (UHC) by describing the achievements and challenges of PHC systems in seven countries representing the three economic levels: high-income (Belgium, Australia), middle-income (South Africa, Thailand), and low-income countries (Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Nepal). BACKGROUND: Uptake of e-health, the use of information communication technologies (ICT) for health service delivery, in allied health appears to be lagging behind other health care areas, despite offering the potential to address problems with service access by rural and remote Australians. The aim of the study was to conduct a scoping review of studies into the application of or attitudes towards ehealth amongst allied health professionals conducted in Australia.
