Studies designed to examine effects of fat mass reduction (including lipodystrophy and lipectomy) on human serum total and LDL-cholesterol concentrations are inconsistent. The purpose of this study was to examine effect of partial lipectomy in rats (as an experimental model of fat mass reduction in humans) on (1) circulating total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol + VLDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol concentrations, and (2) factors which may affect serum cholesterol concentrations such as: (a) liver LDL-receptor level, (b) expression of liver PCSK9 and (c) circulating PCSK9 concentration. Repeat surgery is known to increase risk of several surgical complications, including compromise to the blood supply of/surrounding the surgical site. As such, we offer an alternative to the use of a standard breast reduction technique in the case of a re-do reduction, pursued with a goal of maintaining the blood supply to the nipple-areola complex. When compared to traditional reduction mammoplasty, suction-assisted lipectomy with dermal mastopexy has been demonstrated to be a highly effective technique in protecting the vascularity of the nipple-areola complex in repeat breast reductions. INTRODUCTION: An evaluation of complication rates in different abdominal lipectomy techniques with relationship to body mass index (BMI) and other risk factors.
METHODS: We identified patients who underwent an abdominal lipectomy at our institution from January 2015 to July 2020. Those with concurrent hernia repair were excluded. Patients were classified into 2 groups: (1) horizontal lipectomy with or without umbilical translocation and (2) inverted-T lipectomy with translocation. Demographics, operative details, and postoperative complications were collected for 1 year postoperatively. Bivar

The epididymal fat is required for the maintenance of normal spermatogenesis, and the lipectomy of epididymal fat at different postnatal age results in disrupted expression patterns of several testicular steroidogenic enzymes. The current research examined the effect of epididymal fat lipectomy at different postnatal ages on expression of cytochrome 5α-reductase I, cytochrome P450 aromatase, androgen receptor (AR), and estrogen receptors (ER) α and β in the mouse testis after 2 weeks of the lipectomy. The lipectomy of epididymal fat at 2 months of postnatal age resulted in significant increase

This study aimed to compare and analyze the prognosis after lipectomy with respect to the difference in time required for indocyanine green (ICG) to reach the axilla in patients with advanced unilateral upper extremity lymphedema. The study population was divided into 2 groups, according to the time required by ICG to reach the axilla after injection, that is, <1 hour (<1 hour; n = 9) and over 1 hour (>1 hour; n = 8). The patient's arm volume was examined before surgery and up to 12 months after surgery. The volume difference between the 2 groups was compared using the excess volume ratio. Sta

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) significantly compromises quality of life. Although combined suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL) and lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA) is effective, outcomes vary considerably among patients. Currently, tools for early postoperative risk stratification are lacking.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed data from BCRL patients who underwent combined SAL and LVA at Beijing Shijitan Hospitalfrom June 2018 to June 2025. Predictive variables were selected using the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression combined with bootstra

INTRODUCTION: Pubic hypertrophy, defined as an abnormal and abundant round mass of fatty tissue located over the pubic symphysis, is frequently underestimated in patients with hypospadias. We examined the prevalence of this condition, as well as the outcomes associated with its surgical treatment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Within 266 hypospadias patients treated at our clinic, we assessed the prevalence of pubic hypertrophy, and we schematically described the surgical steps of pubic lipectomy. Multivariable logistic regression (MLR) tested for predictors of pubic hypertrophy. Finally, separate ML

Multiple symmetric lipomatosis (MSL) is a rare disease of unknown etiology, characterized by the presence of multiple, symmetrical, noncapsulated lipomas, mostly in the neck and upper trunk. To date, there is no effective medical treatment of MSL. Surgical treatment is based on 2 options, namely, lipectomy and/or liposuction. In this retrospective study, we compare traditional lipectomy with ultrasound-assisted liposuction. Our initial experience demonstrates that the ultrasound-assisted liposuction procedure can be applied to patients with MSL, allowing simultaneous treatment of multiple area

Visceral white adipose tissue (WAT) dysfunction may contribute to obesity-related brain impairments but causal relationship has not been demonstrated. We herein investigated the impact of visceral epididymal WAT (eWAT) lipectomy on brain health and obesity-associated comorbidities (liver steatosis, atherosclerosis, WAT dysfunction) in obese Ldlr-/-.Leiden mice. High-fat diet (HFD)-fed obese mice underwent sham surgery or partial removal (~70%) of eWAT. A separate group of mice was kept on chow diet (control). Liver disease, atherosclerosis and three WAT depots were examined histologically, and

Gonadal white adipose tissue (gWAT) can regulate gametogenesis via modulation of neuroendocrine signaling. However, the effect of gWAT on the local microenvironment of the gonad was largely unknown. Herein, we ruled out that gWAT had a neuroendocrine effect on gonad function through a unilateral lipectomy strategy, in which cutting off epididymal white adipose tissue could reduce seminiferous tubule thickness and decrease sperm counts only in the adjacent testis and epididymis of the affected gonad. Consistent with the results in males, in females, ovary mass was similarly decreased by lipecto

BACKGROUND: Dorsocervical fibro-lipodystrophy, commonly known as "buffalo hump," presents a challenging deformity often associated with HIV-related lipodystrophy or idiopathic etiologies. Although various surgical techniques have been reported, a comprehensive evaluation of their safety, efficacy, and recurrence rates remains lacking. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate outcomes of surgical interventions, particularly suction-assisted lipectomy, in managing dorsocervical fibro-lipodystrophy.
METHODS: A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted using PubMed and

Removal of the parametrial fat pads (partial lipectomy) from female SKH-1 mice fed a high-fat diet inhibited UVB-induced carcinogenesis, but this was not observed in mice fed a low-fat chow diet. Partial lipectomy in high-fat-fed mice decreased the number of keratoacanthomas and squamous cell carcinomas per mouse by 76 and 79%, respectively, compared with sham-operated control mice irradiated with UVB for 33 wk. Immunohistochemical analysis indicated that partial lipectomy increased caspase 3 (active form) positive cells by 48% in precancerous epidermis away from tumors, by 68% in keratoacanth

Surgical removal of body fat (lipectomy) triggers compensatory increases in nonexcised white adipose tissue (WAT), thus restoring adiposity levels in many species, including Siberian hamsters. In Siberian hamsters, when their lipectomized WAT is transplanted to another site (autologous grafts, no net change in body fat), healthy grafts result, but the lipectomy-induced compensatory increases in nonexcised WAT masses are exaggerated, an effect that apparently occurs only when the grafts contact intact WAT. When WAT is added to nonlipectomized hamsters to increase body fat, native WAT pads do no

Enlargement of the male breast, gynecomastia, commonly occurs in otherwise healthy men. If the gynecomastia is marked, surgical treatment may be necessary. Underlying disease must be considered. History, physical examination, laboratory tests and in some patients ultrasonography of the testes should be conducted prior to surgery. If the gynecomastia is due mainly due to fat, suction lipectomy alone is sufficient treatment. However, liposuction will not remove breast parenchyma, and some patients also require local excision of the parenchyma. In our experience, suction lipectomy provides a new

We have used the honeycombed suction lipectomy (wet and/or dry) in over 700 patients. It represents a major advancement in the treatment of the localized adiposities of the body. Its advantages are eliminating the need for long, unsightly scars and reducing operating time and morbidity. Selection of appropriate patients is of paramount importance for reliable results because this technique is truly sculpting of the soft tissues. Results improve also with the proper training and experience of the surgeon. The indications and complications have been discussed. This technique (honeycombed suction

The distribution of fat in obese persons is related to the risk of developing various metabolic disorders, such as glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia and hypertension, and the combination of these conditions is known as the metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of subcutaneous fat in regulating insulin resistance and its influence on TNF-alpha expression in visceral fat, by using mice that were subjected to subcutaneous lipectomy with or without subsequent fat transplantation. After partial subcutaneous lipectomy, mice showed significantly greater accumulation of

Liposuction is a safe procedure for removal of subcutaneous fat in patients with upper leg lipodystrophy. We present a young woman with lipodystrophy of upper leg who underwent ultrasound-assisted three-dimensional suction lipectomy. The aim of the study was to determine the amount of fat to be removed before liposuction and to evaluate soft tissue composition before and after liposuction. At the initial meeting and four months later, body composition parameters were examined by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which produced a precise assessment of regional fat distribution. The baseline DXA

The authors report two very exceptional and similar cases. In the first case, during abdominal lipectomy, the surgical team was confronted suddenly with an internal hemorrhage requiring prompt resuscitation by the anesthetist. Laparatomy revealed an aortic fissure, one centimeter above the iliac bifurcation. Bleeding was controlled by clamping the aorta, followed by suturing of the fissure. Surgery was then completed uneventfully. The second patient developed a retroperitoneal hematoma confirmed by postoperative CT scan during lipectomy and liposuction. No further treatment was required after

BACKGROUND: The creation of an arteriovenous fistula in obese patients with end-stage-renal-disease, might not lead to a successful hemodialysis session, partly due to excess adipose tissue overlapping the enlarged vein. This review summarizes the available evidence on superficialization methods in studies dealing with obese patients.
METHODS: An English-language literature search was undertaken in the MEDLINE/SCOPUS databases looking for publications that described procedures of salvaging autologous arteriovenous access in upper extremities of obese patients. Perioperative outcomes including
