A 1-year-old boy with no underlying disorder presented with non-bilious vomiting since 4 days before admission. He was referred to our hospital and was diagnosed with a small bowel obstruction due to an intraabdominal tumor. Laparotomy revealed an intestinal volvulus with a soft and lobulated tumor arising from the mesentery. The resected tumor with a small part of the small bowel was diagnosed as lipoblastoma histologically. From a literature review, mesenteric lipoblastoma with an intestinal volvulus showed different characteristics such as greater frequency of vomiting and less frequency of

Lipoblastoma is a peculiar variant of lipoma occurring almost exclusively during infancy and early childhood. It is found most commonly in the upper and lower extremities; less common sites are head and neck, trunk, mediastinum, and retroperitoneum. It has a greater predilection for boys and commonly presents as a slowly growing soft-tissue mass. We present here the case of a five- year old female child with a lipoblastoma presenting as a paravertebral mass in the right lower back which progressed rapidly in the previous six months causing diagnostic difficulty on fine needle aspiration cytolo

Glomuvenous malformations are a subtype of venous malformations, which present in infancy or childhood. We describe a teenage girl who presented with multiple digital glomuvenous malformations from birth. In addition, she had an epidermal naevus on the upper lip, an area of congenital alopecia of the scalp, heterochromia irides and an abdominal lipoblastoma. We are unaware of any reports of the association of multiple glomuvenous malformations with the other uncommon developmental anomalies seen in our patient, and a common link eludes us.

OBJECTIVE: Lipoblastoma is a rare neoplasm that occurs mostly in infants and children. Although benign, it has a tendency for local recurrence.
RESULTS: Clinical and pathological features of 23 cases of lipoblastoma described. Patients' age ranged from 8 months to 18 years with mean and median age 4.1 and 2.5 years, respectively. Male:female ratio was 2.8:1. Most common sites were lower extremities (9 cases), followed by abdominal cavity and retroperitoneum (4 cases), and scrotum/groin (3 cases). Grossly, 22 tumors were well circumscribed and multi nodular. All cases showed lobules composed o

We report a case of prenatally diagnosed congenital perineal mass which was combined with anorectal malformation. The mass was successfully treated with posterior sagittal anorectoplasty postnatally. On ultrasound examination at a gestational age of 23 weeks the fetal perineal mass were found on the right side. Any other defects were not visible on ultrasonography during whole gestation. Amniocentesis was performed to evaluate the fetal karyotyping and acetylcholinesterase which were also normal. As the fetus grew up, the mass size was slowly increased more and more. At birth, a female neonate

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Lipoblastoma-like tumors are rare tumors that can be confused with lipoblastomas and liposarcomas but have distinct characteristics. This tumor has previously been identified in the vulva of females, and recently in isolated cases of young males. Given its rarity, we present an instance of this tumor in an older man, demonstrating that this pathology is not limited to a specific age or sex, and surgeons and pathologists must be aware of it in their differential.

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign pediatric neoplasm of fetal-embryonal fat with little risk of recurrence following total microsurgical excision, but it may progress to local invasion or infiltration if not treated surgically. No adjuvant therapies are usually necessary once the tumor is excised. It is best diagnosed on histopathological studies following excision. An unusual posterior mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 2-year-old Omani girl with spinal epidural extension clinically manifested as a progressive painful suprascapular swelling is reported. It was initially construed to be a benign lipoma

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign neoplasm with overlapping histology with other lipomatous tumors. Genetic aberrations including translocations of 8q and splitting of the PLAG1 probe leading to "promoter swapping" and gains of chromosome 8 or PLAG1 foci have been described in lipoblastoma. Here, we report 3 lipoblastomas revealing novel genetic aberrations involving PLAG1: a high level of PLAG1 amplification up to 50 copies in a 4-year-old girl with recurrence of a right flank mass, a partial deletion of PLAG1 with the flanking junction breakpoints involving the 3'PLAG1 and 5'HAS2 genes in a 17-m

Lipoblastoma-like tumor of the vulva was first described as a benign mesenchymal neoplasm of adipocytic differentiation having features of lipoblastoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and spindle cell lipoma. Prior studies of lipoblastoma-like tumor have evaluated PLAG1, HMGA2, and RB1 immunohistochemistry and DDIT3 rearrangement status, with results supporting its distinction from lipoblastoma and myxoid liposarcoma. However, absent RB1 expression was reported in a majority of tested cases, suggesting that lipoblastoma-like tumor may have underlying 13q alterations and be related to RB1-deleted soft tis

BACKGROUND: Lipoblastoma and lipoblastomatosis are rare pediatric adipose tumors that sometimes affect the neck or spinal cord. This case is the third report of lipoblastoma extending into the spinal canal, the first report of intradural tumor extension, and the first report of hemiparesis resulting from lipoblastoma compressing the spinal cord.
METHODS: A 13-month-old boy was seen by a pediatrician for a firm, supraclavicular neck mass on the left side. After being evaluated by CT and MRI scanning, the tumor was partially resected.
RESULTS: Postoperative microscopic examination of the tumor

Lipoblastoma-like tumor (LLT) is a benign soft tissue tumor demonstrating mixed morphologic features of lipoblastoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and spindle cell lipoma but lacking genetic alterations associated with those tumors. LLT was originally thought to be specific to the vulva but has since been reported in the paratesticular region. The morphologic features of LLT overlap with those of "fibrosarcoma-like lipomatous neoplasm" (FLLN), a rare, indolent adipocytic neoplasm considered by some to form part of the spectrum of atypical spindle cell and pleomorphic lipomatous tumor. We compared the m

INTRODUCTION: Lipoblastoma and lipoblastomatosis are rare benign mesenchymal adipose tumors that originate from embryonic white adipocytes and occur most commonly in infancy and early childhood. Lipoblastomas occur in the extremities and trunk, including the retroperitoneum and peritoneal cavity. Therefore, infiltration into the spinal canal has rarely been reported.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 4-year-old girl presented to our clinic because of difficulty sitting on the floor with her legs straight. She also complained of enuresis and constipation for the past 6 months with persistent headaches and

OBJECTIVES: To describe the management of a 5-year old female with a painless, mobile cheek mass.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review of presentation, imaging, pathology and management.
RESULTS: Magnetic resonance imaging showed a heterogenous mass with solid and lipomatous components. The mass was a lipoblastoma on histopathology and was excised completely with no evidence of recurrence.
CONCLUSIONS: The diagnosis and management of a cheek mass in a child is challenging. Imaging is important but not diagnostic. Surgical excision is the primary management of a lipoblastoma.

Lipoblastoma is an uncommon tumor of adipose tissue that usually occurs in infancy and early childhood. They predominantly locate in the extremities, but are less frequently found in the head and neck region, trunk and various other locations. The most common sign is a rapidly growing mass. In spite of their potential for local invasion and rapid growth, they are benign tumors and have no distant metastasis. Although more than 180 cases of lipoblastoma distributed over various parts of the body have been reported, only nine cases were located in the thoracic wall. We present the case of a two-

Lipoblastoma or lipoblastomatosis is an uncommon fatty tumor seen in children up to the age of 5 years, with very rare exceptions above that age. It usually occurs in the extremities, but it can arise in other anatomical sites, including the head and neck area, trunk, mediastinum, mesentry, and retroperitoneum. We report a 9-month-old boy with mediastinal lipoblastomatosis showing unusually complex chromosomal aberrations. Five years following surgical excision that was incomplete as a result of the tumor's proximity to major blood vessels, the patient developed a recurrence of the tumor in th

Myxoid adipocytic tumors encompass a broad heterogeneous group of benign and malignant adipocytic tumors, which are typically myxoid (e.g. myxoid liposarcoma, lipoblastoma and lipoblastoma-like tumor of the vulva) or may occasionally appear predominantly myxoid (e.g. pleomorphic liposarcoma, atypical lipomatous tumor, dedifferentiated liposarcoma, chondroid lipoma, spindle cell/pleomorphic lipoma, atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor and atypical pleomorphic lipomatous tumor). There have been significant advances in recent years in classification and understanding the pathogenesis of adipocy

Post-zygotic activating mutations in PIK3CA and other genes encoding members of PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway have been found in various overgrowth syndromes that have been grouped together as PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS). We report a female patient with gait disturbance, leg pain, isolated macrodactyly of the foot, and mild intellectual disability. Imaging of the lower limb showed a lipoblastoma of the right thigh. A mosaic gain-of-function mutation in the catalytic domain of PIK3CA (c.3140 A > G; p.His1047Arg) was detected in the adipose tissue and in skin cultured fibroblasts from the

Patients presenting with enlarging fibrofatty masses in the extremities pose an interesting dilemma to clinicians, as the differential diagnosis in such cases ranges from benign to malignant, and from lesions optimally managed operatively to those managed nonoperatively. The differential diagnosis includes benign lipoma, liposarcoma, lipoblastoma, and fibrolipomatous hamartoma (lipomatosis) of the nerves. The authors present the case of a 14-year-old girl with an enlarging fibrofatty mass of the forearm, initially thought, based on diagnostic imaging, to be a fibrolipomatous hamartoma of the m

The classification of undifferentiated soft tissue tumors continues to evolve with the expanded application of molecular analysis in clinical practice. We report three cases of a unique soft tissue tumor in young children (5 months to 2 years old) displaying a purely fibromyxoid histology, with positive staining for desmin and CD34. In two cases, RNA sequencing detected a YWHAZ-PLAG1 gene fusion, while in the third case, a previously unreported EEF1A1-PLAG1 fusion was identified. PLAG1 fusions have been reported in several pathologic entities including pleomorphic adenoma, myoepithelial tumors
