Retroperitoneal tumors (RPTs) are very rare tumors that arise in the large space of the retroperitoneum. About two-third of these tumors are malignant, of which soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is the most common and comprises almost one-third of malignant RPTs. Twenty to thirty percent of RPTs are benign. The retroperitoneal cavity has a very large potential space for tumor enlargement to a very high diameters without causing specific symptoms, especially during the initial phase of tumor enlargement. On diagnosis, the average tumor weight is 15 - 20 kg and tumor diameter is 20 - 25 cm. The most com

Over the last several years, the systemic treatment landscape for dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) has notably expanded. Historically, systemic therapy options have been limited to cytotoxic chemotherapy agents, including doxorubicin, ifosfamide, gemcitabine, and docetaxel, that were shown to have efficacy in unselected populations of patients with soft tissue sarcomas. More recently, however, there have been phase II and III trials establishing clinical benefit of the cytotoxic agents trabectedin and eribulin along with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor pazopanib in patients with advanced lip

Paratesticular sarcomas have happened rarely. Due to the infrequency of this malignant disease and its diverse histopathologic subtypes, no standard treatment would be available. Multiple treatments have reported in literature with different results. We have reported a 55 years old man with a 30 years history of paratesticular mass. After multiple operations, radical orchiectomy has revealed liposarcoma. The patient has been receiving 50 Gy radiation to the scrotum and inguinal area. After 18 months follow up, the patient was well and disease free. He has shown good response to surgery and rad

AIM: Describe a patient with multiple recurrences of the primary recurrent liposarcoma.
CLINICAL CASE: A 60-years-old man complained of weight loss (BMI 18.4) with a palpable huge retroperitoneal tumour, which displaced left kidney, and was confirmed on USG and CT. Laboratory examination showed anaemia and pathological blood tests. Chest X-ray initially showed a negative finding. A complete transperitonealy surgical extirpation of the tumour with left side nephrectomy was performed on June 28, 2007. The tumour mass weight was 1900 g. It was lying on the posterior face of the kidney in diamete

BACKGROUND: Liposarcoma is a neoplasm of mesodermic origin derived from adipose tissue and represents the most frequent histopathological variety of the retroperitoneum. Retroperitoneal liposarcoma may grow to a large size without symptoms. Approximately 20% of the tumours are >10 cm at the time of diagnosis and may reach extremely giant dimensions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 58-year-old woman with a giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma. The patient presented at our clinic with diffuse abdominal pain and enormous abdominal distension. She had swellings and redness of the right l

A 36-year-old male was admitted with a giant abdominal tumour and dyspnoea from thoracic displacement. Symptoms were one year of haemorrhoids, but complaints of growing abdomen presented only for 10 weeks. Ultrasound could not differentiate tumour from the liver, but MR scan could. A 24.2 kg inhomogeneous tumour adhesive to the right kidney capsule was removed in toto from retroperitoneum. Histological diagnosis: Sclerosing, low differentiated liposarcoma. Besides radical surgery only radiation therapy may have effect in treatment of retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcomas.

Inflammatory liposarcoma represents a rare variant of well-differentiated liposarcoma in which a chronic inflammatory infiltrate predominates simulating the appearance of malignant lymphoma and other nonneoplastic lesions. A case of this lesion occurring in the retroperitoneum was described in 43-year-old man. The differential diagnosis, especially from lymphoma and non neoplastic lesions such as inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor and Castelman disease are discussed.

Liposarcoma is the second most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults after fibrosarcoma. Extremities and retroperitoneum are the most common sites. Intraabdominal and particulary mesocolic liposarcoma is a rare localisation. We report the case of a 64-year-old woman with a localized grade 1 liposarcoma of the right mesocolon treated by an extended right hemicolectomy. No further treatment was done because of the low grading and the disease-free margins. The patient is without any evidence of recurrence after one year.

Paratesticular liposarcomas are rare and typically reported as isolated cases or as components of larger studies of liposarcomas. We studied a series of these tumors. All cases of paratesticular liposarcomas were retrieved from the archives of the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Slides were reviewed and clinical information obtained. There were 30 paratesticular liposarcomas from men aged 41-87 years (mean 63 years; median 65 years) that involved the spermatic cord (23, 76%), testicular tunics (6, 20%), and epididymis (1, 4%). Tumors ranged from 3 to 30 cm (mean 11.7 cm;

Well-differentiated liposarcomas (WDLPS) and dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DDLPS) account for 60 % of all liposarcomas, reflecting the heterogeneity of this type of sarcoma. Genetically, both types of liposarcomas are characterized by the amplification of MDM2 and CDK4 genes, which indicates an important molecular event with diagnostic and therapeutic relevance. In both localized WDLPS and DDLPS of the retroperitoneum and the extremities, between 25 % and 30 % of patients have local or distant recurrence, even when perioperatively treated, with clear margins present. The systemic treatment of

Primary liposarcoma (LPS) of the pancreas is extremely rare. The present report describes an additional case of primary pancreatic LPS and reviews the current literature. A 40-year-old female patient that initially presented with a fever was subsequently found to have a pancreatic tumor. CT was used to identify a heterogeneous mass in the pancreatic head and body, which had a notable absence of fat components. The tumor exhibited slightly heterogeneous enhancement during the arterial phase, moderate enhancement in the venous phase and persistent enhancement in the delayed phase, with encapsula

An 81-year-old woman who had undergone total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid cancer 12 years earlier was found to have a tumor in the tail of the pancreas. Four years earlier, skin, lung, and mediastinal lymph node metastases had appeared. Computed tomography (CT) showed a mass 26 mm in diameter in the tail of the pancreas. Thereafter, the pancreatic tumor increased in size, while the lung metastases remained stable. Unenhanced CT at the time of first detection showed that the tumor was heterogeneous, with low-attenuation areas indicating fat components. As the tumor grew, the fat componen

OBJECTIVES: Thyroid liposarcoma is a rare tumor. Its low prevalence accounts for the scarcity of data in the literature, which consists mostly of small studies and case reports.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 60 years old male with no past medical or past surgical history and presented with neck discomfort and a large left thyroid nodule. Thyroid ultrasound and CT scan were performed and confirmed the existence of a thyroid nodule most probably inside the left inferior thyroid lobe. In the posterior mediastinum, two fatty formations were found. To complete, an MRI was performed,

BACKGROUND: Paratesticular liposarcoma accounts for approximately 7% of scrotal tumors. They are rare lesions of the reproductive system with approximately 90% of the lesions originating from the spermatic cord. Surgery, with the goal of complete resection, is the mainstay for treatment of this disease. However, treatment consisting of extended resection to decrease local recurrence remains controversial.
CASE SUMMARY: We report the cases of two patients with paratesticular liposarcomas who were treated with radical testicular tumor resection without adjuvant therapy. Follow-up investigations

Retroperitoneal liposarcomas are very infrequent retroperitoneal malignant tumours. Most patients complain of palpable abdominal mass and only half present with abdominal pain. With haematogenous spread they can reach, mainly, lungs and liver, but only in 10% of cases. Here we report the presentation and surgical treatment of a giant massive retroperitoneal liposarcoma in a 53-year-old man.

Pleomorphic liposarcoma is the rarest subtype of liposarcoma. Involvement of the central nervous system by pleomorphic liposarcoma is exceptional. We present a 62-year-old woman with an intraparenchymal mass involving the left frontoparietal lobes. Histologic examination demonstrated a mesenchymal neoplasm with a dense reticulin network and pleomorphic lipoblasts. Immunohistochemical stain for adipophilin highlighted intracytoplasmic vacuoles. MDM2 immunostain was negative. A diagnosis of pleomorphic liposarcoma was made. There was no evidence of an extracranial primary neoplasm by imaging or

Parathyroid autotransplantation is an increasingly common procedure given the increasing rate of hyperparathyroidism. However, post-autotransplantation imaging is not commonly performed and the imaging findings can mimic liposarcoma. Therefore, radiologists should be aware of the imaging characteristics of parathyroid autotransplantation. Here we discuss the CT and Tc99m-Sestamibi 4D-CT findings of parathyroid autotransplantation. We will also discuss the pathophysiology of liposarcoma and present the gross histological findings seen on pathology.

Paratesticular liposarcomas (PLS) is a very uncommon pathology type of paratesticular sarcomas, with less 200 similar cases reported to date in the English literature. There are a few cases regarding giant paratesticular liposarcoma measuring over 10 cm. We present an unusual case with a giant well differentiated PLS of the left testis extended to the pelvic cavity. We report the case of a 55-year-old man who presented with large left groin mass. The patient underwent left orchiectomy following a cure of a scrotal hernia. Histological and immunohistochemical findings were suggestive of a well-
