De Novo Skin Neoplasms in Liver-Transplanted Patients: Single-Center Prospective Evaluation of 105 Cases.

Background and Objectives: Solid-organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) are notably considered at risk for developing cutaneous malignancies. However, most of the existing literature is focused on kidney transplant-related non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs). Conflicting data have been published so far on NMSC incidence among liver transplant recipients (LTRs), and whether LTRs really should be considered at lower risk remains controversial. The aim of the present study was to prospectively collect data on the incidence of cutaneous neoplasms in an LTR cohort. Materials and Methods: All LTRs transp

Long-term outcome of liver transplant patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: A considerable proportion of patients receiving liver transplants for Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) suffer from myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). This study evaluated the long-term prognosis of liver-transplanted patients with BCS secondary to MPN and the effect of immunosuppression on MPN progression. METHODS: A total of 78 patients with BCS were evaluated between 1982 and 2013. Of those, 40 patients suffered from polycythaemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythaemia (ET). One patient had primary myelofibrosis (PMF). All patients received the standard immunosuppressive regimen. W

Association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, lean metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, and colorectal neoplasms: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is linked to colorectal cancer and adenoma. Lean NAFLD is associated with a higher colorectal cancer risk than non-lean NAFLD. NAFLD was modified as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Certain adenoma features carry a high risk of metachronous lesions requiring early colonoscopy follow-up. The association between MASLD, lean MASLD, and colorectal adenomas with these features is unclear and is assessed in this study. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included patients greater than or equal to 18 years

miR-223 and Chromogranin A Affect Inflammatory Immune Cell Activation in Liver Metastasis of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a diverse group originating from endocrine cells/their precursors in pancreas, small intestine, or lung. The key serum marker is chromogranin A (CgA). While commonly elevated in patients with NEN, its prognostic value is still under discussion. Secretion/posttranslational proteolytic cleavage of CgA results in multiple bioactive fragments, which are essential regulators of the cardiovascular and immune system. miR-223, regulator of Nrlp3 inflammasome and neutrophil activation, was recently found to have decreased in patients with NEN. We performed flow cytom

Simultaneous liver mucinous cystic and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the bile duct: a case report.

Cystic hepatic neoplasms are rare tumors, and are classified into two separate entities: mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs) and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the bile duct (IPMN-B). We report the case of a 56-year-old woman who presented with abdominal pain and jaundice due to the presence of a large hepatic multilocular cystic tumor associated with an intraductal tumor. Partial hepatectomy with resection of extrahepatic bile ducts demonstrated an intrahepatic MCN and an intraductal IPMN-B. This is the first report of the simultaneous occurrence of these two histologically distinct

Frequency of ras mutations in liver neoplasms from B6C3F1 mice exposed to tetrafluoroethylene for two years.

Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) was evaluated for carcinogenicity in inhalation studies because of its high use in the production of Teflon. There was clear evidence of hepatocarcinogenic activity in B6C3F1 mice after 2 yr of TFE exposure. The present study was designed to characterize the mutation profiles of H- and K-ras oncogenes in liver neoplasms in mice after exposure to 0, 312, 625, or 1,250 ppm TFE. ras mutations were identified by restriction fragment length polymorphism, single-stranded conformation polymorphism analysis, and direct sequencing of polymerase chain reaction amplified-DNA iso

Late Presentation of Recurrent Solid Pseudopapillary Pancreatic Neoplasm With Liver Metastases During Pregnancy.

Our case highlights a rare instance of recurrent metastatic solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasms of the pancreas, emerging 8 years after radical pancreatic resection-an extended interval surpassing the reported average. Managing solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasm during pregnancy is uniquely challenging, given the increase in the expression of progesterone receptors during the intrapartum period, leading to tumor growth. Although surgical resection remains the primary approach, systemic chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and liver transplant are other considerations. The absence of

A 6-year-old boy with an atypical liver neoplasm harboring a novel RPS6KA3 variant.

Pediatric hepatoblastoma (HBL) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are primary liver malignant neoplasms with 5-year event-free survival of >80% and <30%, respectively. In these patients, α-fetoprotein levels can guide surgical intervention and monitor disease progression. Although histology and immunohistochemical stains support diagnosis, genetic testing can elucidate mechanisms that drive pathogenesis. Pediatric HBL and HCC harbor well-characterized molecular signatures such as alterations in CTNNB1, TERT, and AXIN1 that alter the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. Approximately 8% of individuals with H

Successful Treatment of a Mixed Neuroendocrine-Nonneuroendocrine Neoplasm of the Colon with Metastases to the Thyroid Gland and Liver.

Patients with mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) of the colon have poor prognosis. Herein, we report a patient with MiNEN of the colon with metastases to the liver and the thyroid gland, with long-term survival. A 45-year-old man presented with anterior neck swelling. Histopathological examination of the thyroid tumor revealed neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC), suggesting that a primary NEC in another organ had metastasized to the thyroid gland. Computed tomography to identify a primary NEC revealed two tumors: one in the liver and one in the transverse colon. A biopsy reve

Atypical Hepatocellular Neoplasm With Peliosis in Cirrhotic Liver Versus Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Diagnostic Trap.

Atypical hepatocellular neoplasm (AHN) is an adenoma-like hepatic tumor that even occurs in noncirrhotic liver of males (any age) or females ≥ 50 years old, or associates focal atypical features. In this article, 2 unusual cases diagnosed in elderly cirrhotic patients, unrelated to steroids, are presented. The first case was incidentally diagnosed in an 83-year-old female. During laparoscopic surgery for cholecystectomy, hemoperitoneum was installed and laparotomy was necessary to remove a 70-mm nodular encapsulated hepatic tumor that was microscopically composed by hepatocyte-like cells with

Neoplasm of hepatic stellate cells (spongiotic pericytoma): a new tumor entity in human liver.

The purpose of this investigation was to classify a previously unknown tumor entity in human liver observed in a 35-year-old woman. It was characterized by an unusual accumulation of fusiform CD34-positive cells and was initially misconceived as a tumor of the liver sinusoids. The tissue was examined by light and electron microscopy and by immunocytochemical techniques with a broad spectrum of antibodies. The polycyclic tumor contained multiple nodular cell aggregates. The tumor cells possessed extensive cytoplasmic processes, rough endoplasmic reticulum, a prominent Golgi complex, and, in iso

Transcriptomic classification and clinicopathologic correlation of hepatocellular neoplasms with steatotic features in non-cirrhotic livers.

Differentiating early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from hepatocellular adenoma (HCA), particularly in the context of steatosis, remains a diagnostic challenge. Accurate distinction is essential for appropriate clinical management, yet reliable ancillary assays are limited. This study focuses on hepatocellular neoplasms with steatotic change in non-cirrhotic livers, aiming to minimise confounding factors from cirrhosis and to identify genetic alterations specific to tumour biology. Using total RNA sequencing, we analysed the gene expression profiles of 12 HCA cases, ten HCC cases (inclu

Successful treatment of a metastatic hepatocellular malignant neoplasm, not otherwise specified with chemotherapy and liver transplantation.

Hepatocellular malignant neoplasm, not otherwise specified (HCN-NOS) is a provisional entity describing a subset of rare malignant pediatric liver tumors with overlapping features of hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. We present a case illustration of metastatic HCN-NOS successfully treated with a backbone of hepatoblastoma chemotherapy, pulmonary metastastectomy, and liver transplantation, along with a literature review of the clinical outcomes of HCN.

Molecular Diagnostics in the Neoplasms of the Pancreas, Liver, Gallbladder, and Extrahepatic Biliary Tract: 2018 Update.

Pancreatic neoplasms, including ductal adenocarcinoma, solid pseudopapillary neoplasm, pancreatic endocrine neoplasms, acinar cell carcinoma, and pancreatoblastoma, are associated with different genetic abnormalities. Hepatic adenomas with beta-catenin exon 3 mutation are associated with a high risk of malignancy. Hepatic adenoma with arginosuccinate synthetase 1 expression or sonic hedgehog mutations are associated with a risk of bleeding. Hepatocellular carcinoma and choangiocarcinoma display heterogeneity at both morphologic and molecular levels Cholangiocellular carcinoma is most commonly

Predictive and prognostic nomogram models for liver metastasis in colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms: a large population study.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the incidence of patients with colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms (CRNENs) has been continuously increasing. When diagnosed, most patients have distant metastases. Liver metastasis (LM) is the most common type of distant metastasis, and the prognosis is poor once it occurs. However, there is still a lack of large studies on the risk and prognosis of LM in CRNENs. This study aims to identify factors related to LM and prognosis and to develop a predictive model accordingly. METHODS: In this study, the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was

Transient elastography-derived liver stiffness measurements were found to be useful for predicting liver infiltration in a case of mature T-cell neoplasm involving liver dysfunction.

Transient elastography (TE) is a novel, non-invasive imaging technique for measuring liver stiffness (LS). It is considered to be useful for predicting the severity of fibrosis and the risk of cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the association between the presence of diffuse regions of increased cell density in the liver and elevated LS values has not been assessed. We experienced a case in which a mature T-cell neoplasm had invaded the liver, but the infiltrating lesion was not detected by contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) or fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomograp
