The prognostic impact of the ratio of positive lymph nodes on survival of epithelial ovarian cancer patients.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To study the prognostic significance of ratio of positive to examined lymph nodes (LNR) on survival of patients with node positive epithelial ovarian cancer (NPEOC). METHODS: Data were obtained from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) from 1988 to 2006, and analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox regression proportional hazard methods. Patients were divided into: stage IIIC group 1 (no macroscopic peritoneal disease), stage IIIC group 2 (macroscopic peritoneal disease), and stage IV. RESULTS: A total of 6,310 women were included. The 5-y

Ratio of invaded to removed lymph nodes as a predictor of survival in squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus.

Prognostic factors that may alter the indications for primary surgical resection or that can be influenced by the extent of the procedure were analysed in a homogeneous group of 186 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus. All patients underwent standardized en bloc oesophagectomy and lymph node dissection with prospective documentation of the histopathological findings; follow-up was complete. Multivariate analysis identified the Union Internacional Contra la Cancrum R category (i.e. the presence of residual tumour after resection) as the most important independent prognostic

Improved staging in node-positive breast cancer patients using lymph node ratio: results in 1,788 patients with long-term follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Axillary lymph node status remains the most important prognostic factor in breast cancer. Established staging systems emphasize the absolute number of positive nodes, without regard for the total number of lymph nodes examined. We sought to confirm that a ratio of positive nodes to total nodes examined (LNR) has prognostic value beyond the current TNM classification for women with node-positive breast cancer. STUDY DESIGN: Using the Duke University Medical Center breast cancer tumor registry, we identified women diagnosed with node-positive breast cancer between 1985 and 2005 (n =

Prognostic value of metastatic lymph-node ratio and log-odds of positive nodes after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Residual axillary disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) challenges prognostication with conventional pathologic nodal (ypN) staging, as post-therapy fibrosis and reduced nodal yield can lead to understaging in ypN-positive patients. We aimed to compare the prognostic performance of the metastatic lymph node ratio (mLNR) and the log odds of positive nodes (LODDS) with ypN stage in a homogeneous post-NACT ypN-positive breast cancer cohort, representing, to our knowledge, the first Turkish series to directly contrast these ratio-based metrics in this setting. Lymph node ratio and overall survival in patients with colon cancer: a prospective multicentre cohort study.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major health concern globally, with lymph node metastasis being a key factor in its spread. The lymph node ratio (LNR), defined as the ratio of pathologically positive lymph nodes to the total number of examined nodes, has been proposed as a prognostic marker in CRC. However, data from prospective cohort studies remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the association between LNR and overall survival (OS) in patients with colon cancer in a prospective multicentre cohort. A prospective cohort study was conducted across seven Polish surgical centers enrolling 445

A prognostic nomogram utilized lymph node ratio for signet ring cell gastric cancer patients post-surgery.

BACKGROUND: Signet ring cell (SRC) gastric cancer is known for its aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. To date, no nomogram has been specifically developed for SRC gastric cancer patients post-surgery. Our objective was to create a nomogram to personalize the prediction of both overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). METHODS: We analyzed data from 3,481 patients with histologically confirmed SRC gastric cancer, diagnosed between 2004 and 2021, using information from the Surveillance Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2015 w

Lymph Node Ratio as a Prognostic Factor for Oral Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Retrospective Study.

Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) incidence and its mortality have increased recently. The oral part of the tongue is one of the commonest sites for OSCC. Apart from Tumour-Node-Metastasis (TNM) staging, lymph node ratio (LNR) has been implicated as one of the useful predictors for the better clinical outcome of the disease. The aim of the present study was to assess the LNR as a prognostic factor for patients having oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC). Materials and methods It is a retrospective study of 122 patients with OTSCC who were managed primarily by surgery with c

Lymph node ratio as a prognostic marker of oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma: a cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Lymph node metastasis is a poor prognostic indicator and is well established in tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Based on the current staging system, accurate risk stratification is difficult. There is thus a need to evaluate an alternate method for predicting recurrence and survival. The objective of the study was to evaluate lymph node ratio as a prognostic marker as compared with N-staging for tongue squamous cell carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study with 56 patients with a lymph node ratio greater than 0.012 (exposed) and 74 patients wit

Prediction of lymph node metastasis in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma using the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-neutrophil ratio.

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis in a variety of tumors is associated with systemic inflammatory markers. However, this association has not been reported in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC). This study aimed to investigate how the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-neutrophil ratio (PNR) in OTSCC patients correlated with the occurrence of OTSCC and lymph node metastasis. METHODS: The data of 73 patients with primary OTSCC who underwent surgical resection were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with other malignant tumors, patients who had received ra

Lymph node ratio may be supplementary to TNM nodal classification in node-positive breast carcinoma based on the results of 2,151 patients.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to determine how lymph node ratio (LNR; the ratio of the number of metastatic lymph nodes to the number of removed lymph nodes) can supplement the TNM nodal classification in breast carcinoma. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the file records of 2,151 patients. RESULTS: Lymph node ratio-based low- (LNR ≤ 0.20), intermediate- (LNR 0.21-0.65), and high-risk (LNR > 0.65) patient groups had significantly different disease-free survival (DFS) (P < 0.001). The DFS of patients with N1, N2, and N3 disease was significantly different (P < 0.001). When

Association between Lymph Node Ratio and Disease Specific Survival in Breast Cancer Patients with One or Two Positive Lymph Nodes Stratified by Different Local Treatment Modalities.

PURPOSE: Results of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG) Z0011 trial indicated that complete axillary node dissection (ALND) may not be warranted in some breast cancer patients with low tumor burden who are undergoing breast-conserving surgery following whole-breast irradiation. However, this study did not address patients undergoing mastectomy or those undergoing breast-conserving surgery without whole-breast radiotherapy. Given that lymph node ratio (LNR; ratio of positive lymph nodes to the total number removed) has been shown to be a prognostic factor in breast cancer,
