Large B-cell lymphomas include several subtypes. Recently, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive large B-cell lymphoma has been delineated as a distinct entity involving mostly lymph nodes and rarely affecting extranodal sites. We describe the first case of a primary cutaneous ALK-positive large B-cell lymphoma in a 48-year-old man with a solitary nodule on the back, and describe the histologic and phenotypic features. Accurate staging confirmed the absence of other lesions, and so surgical excision and postoperative local radiation therapy were initiated and resulted in complete remission

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated B cell lymphoproliferative disorders may be seen in patients with angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL). Although both nodal and extranodal sites of involvement have been described, central nervous system involvement by B cell lymphoma following AITL has not previously been documented. We report a first example of such unusual presentation, in which an 80-year-old man developed diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in the cerebellum 4 months after the initial diagnosis of AITL. EBV-encoded RNAs were detected in the DLBCL, suggesting that EBV played a piv

Transformations in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) are extremely rare. Here, we are presenting a very rare case of DLBCL transforming into lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and flow cytometry. A 31-year old male on antiretroviral therapy and a known case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma diagnosed 1 year back on cervical lymphadenopathy, presented with left axillary swelling for 3 months. FNAC and Flow cytometry were performed from the left axillary swelling which confirmed the diagnosis of LBL.

Composite lymphoma is defined as two or more distinct types of lymphoma in a single anatomical site. Among various combinations, composite B-cell and T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (CBTL) are very infrequent. Herein we describe a 66-year-old female with CBTL presenting with lymphadenopathy, multiple bone lesions and an epidural tumor. Light microscopic examination of a biopsied cervical node revealed a dual population of lymphoid cells: sheets of large cells admixed with medium-sized cells. The large cells expressed B-cell markers and showed immunoglobulin light chain restriction, consistent w

A 60-year-old woman presented with acute eyelid swelling and a subcutaneous hemorrhage in the right eye. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a spherical tumor of the lacrimal gland. The tumor was removed by the Kroenlein method. We diagnosed as a B-cell lymphoma that is unclassifiable, and intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Burkitt lymphoma (BL) (intermediate DLBCL/BL) based on its immunohistopathological examination and c-MYC/IgH rearrangement. We administered six cycles of dose-adjusted-EPOCH-R (etoposide, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydro

B-cell lymphoma, unclassifiable, with features intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and classical Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), is a diagnostic provisional category in the World Health Organization 2008 classification of lymphomas. This category was designed as a measure to accommodate borderline cases that cannot be reliably classified into a single distinct disease entity after all available morphological, immunophenotypical and molecular studies have been performed. Typically, these cases share features intermediate between DLBCL and classical BL or include characteristics

Unclassifiable B-cell lymphoma with features intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is a recently recognized category of mature B-cell lymphoma. This represents a heterogeneous group of diseases which often pose diagnostic problems in clinical practice, yet its distinction from DLBCL to BL is important for its therapeutic and prognostic implications. We report the challenging diagnostic process of a 60-year-old man. He had a CD10 and BCL2-positive, BCL6-negative B-cell malignancy with loss of multiple B-cell markers including surface immunoglobulin

AIM: To characterize a group of patients with B-cell lymphoma (BCLU) unclassified that is intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Burkitt's lymphoma, to identify poor prognostic factors, and to evaluate therapeutic efficiency in patients with BCLU.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Twenty-five patients with BCLU were examined. Double-hit lymphoma (DHL) was diagnosed in 8 (32%) patients. According to the Ann-Arbor classification of lymphoma, its stages II, III, and IV were diagnosed in 3 (12%), 2 (8%), and 20 (80%) patients, respectively. MYC rearrangement was observed in 11 (48%) out of 23

Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) and T-cell/histiocyte-rich B-cell lymphoma (T/HRBCL) are distinct tumors and are treated differently. They are linked by a morphologic and probably a biologic continuum, which renders the differential diagnosis difficult. To develop criteria to distinguish the entities along the morphologic continuum, we correlated the lymph node architecture and immunophenotype of both tumor cells and reactive components of 235 neoplasms in the spectrum of NLPHL and T/HRBCL with clinical data. Two hundred and eighteen cases fitted the World Health Organi

CONTEXT: Fascin is an actin-bundling protein involved in the formation of dendritic processes. Fascin is a sensitive marker for classical Reed-Sternberg cells and has a high negative predictive value for diagnosis of classical Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL). Fascin has been used to distinguish CHL from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Recently, it was shown that fascin might not help differentiate CHL from anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Moreover, fascin has not been extensively studied in the context of other large cell lymphomas.
OBJECTIVE: To analyze fascin expression in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

BACKGROUND: B-cell lymphoma comprises the majority of non-Hodgkin lymphomas worldwide. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is used for patients with high-risk, relapsed, or refractory B-cell lymphoma.
METHODS: The current medical literature and the results of recently published trials were reviewed to provide an update on the most common indications for HCT in B-cell lymphoma.
RESULTS: Autologous HCT has evolving and new roles in the treatment of patients with high-risk diffuse large B-cell cell lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and HIV-related lymphoma. Reduced-intensity conditioning has

OBJECTIVES: The presence of B-cell clones in 76 cases with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) and precursor T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) and its correlation with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was studied.
METHODS: DNA was extracted from paraffin sections and/or fresh-frozen samples and then used for clonality analysis using a modified BIOMED-2 polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based method.
RESULTS: T- and B-cell clones were detected in 59 (77.6%) and 14 (18.4%) of 76 patients, respectively: 90% and 30% of cases with PTCL, not otherwise specified, 76.4% and 17.6% of cases with angioimmunoblastic

T-Cell-Rich B-Cell lymphoma (TCRBCL) is a recently described variant of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma characterized by a predominance of reactive T-cells and a minority of neoplastic large cells which may resemble the Reed-Sternberg cell or its variants. TCRBCL is a notorious mimicker of both lymphocyte predominance Hodgkin's disease (LPHD) and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). Immunohistochemistry is mandatory for a definitive diagnosis. We report a case of TCRBCL which was mistaken for HD both on fine needle aspiration cytology and histopathology due to the presence of RS like cells. Immuno

This study is aimed to define the clinical characteristics, treatment of outcome and independent prognostic factors of 144 patients with T- and 357 B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Entities with well-defined immunophenotype and clinical characteristics were excluded. Patients with T-cell tumours were younger. T-immunophenotype was associated with more advanced disease and presence of B symptoms. They were also less likely to have bulky disease. Primary nasal lymphomas were usually T-cell while lymphomas arising from the gastrointestinal tract and Waldeyer's ring were mostly B-cell. On univariat

BACKGROUND: Low grade, small lymphocytic, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, was diagnosed in a 38-year-old woman. Thirty months after the initial diagnosis was made, a population of lymphoid cells with pathologic morphology was found in the patient's peripheral blood (PB). Cell phenotyping was performed and monoclonality was analyzed in cells obtained from a removed lymph node (LN) and the PB of the patient.
METHODS: The cell phenotype was examined with immunofluorescence techniques using antibodies against SIg and monoclonal antibodies against CD1, CD3, CD4, CD5, CD8, CD19, and the kappa, and lambda l

This is a report on 8 mediastinal tumours that occurred in young adults (19-43 years, mean: 29.4); predominantly in females (6/8). Initial symptoms consisted of thoracic pain and venectasia and in only one case in B symptoms. After surgical tumour reduction, radiation and/or chemotherapy, local recurrence was observed in each case under clinical care; abdominal spread is presently suspected in 3 patients; 3 died 11, 13 and 22 months after diagnosis. None developed leukaemia. The tumours are B-cell neoplasms with a characteristic immunophenotype: leucocyte common antigen+, common acute lymphobl

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has become a commercially available treatment option for relapsed or refractory (r/r) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with two or more lines of prior therapies, and recently for high-risk r/r DLBCL with one prior line of therapy. The successful development of CAR T-cell therapy for multiple relapsed DLBCL has led to a boom in subsequent trials that investigated its utility in patients with other r/r B-cell lymphoma subtypes. However, CAR T-cell therapy is a multistep process that includes leukapheresis and manipulation which take several wee

Large B-cell lymphomas (LBCLs) are among the most frequent (about 30%) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Despite the aggressive behavior of these lymphomas, more than 60% of patients can be cured with first-line chemoimmunotherapy using the R-CHOP regimen. Patients with refractory or relapsing disease show a poor outcome even when treated with second-line therapies. CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells are emerging as an efficacious second-line treatment strategy for patients with LBCL. Three CD19-CAR-T-cell products received FDA and EMA approval. CAR-T cell therapy has also been explor

Myeloablative allogeneic stem cell transplantation carries the promise of long-term disease control by graft-versus-lymphoma (GVL) immunity but is associated with a 30% to 40% risk of transplant-related mortality. Nonmyeloablative stem cell transplantation (NST) aims to exploit the GVL effect without the attendant toxicity of myeloablative conditioning. At the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the standard NST conditioning regimen for patients with follicular lymphoma is fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab (FCR). Using this regimen, transplant-related mortality is currently 10%, and 85% of

Expression of neural cell-adhesion molecule CD56 is a rare event in B-cell lymphoma. We described four cases of CD56-positive B-cell lymphoma, including follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. These lymphoma cells expressed CD10 and bcl-6, which suggests germinal center-stage phenotype. Immunohistochemistry showed that CD56-positive cells aggregated and displayed a cohesive growth pattern, indicating that homotypic adhesion through the molecules might affect the manner of tumor growth and expansion. Although CD56 expression level varies among the cases, this molecule might play
