An audit on the management of lymphogranuloma venereum in a sexual health clinic in London, UK.

We performed an audit on the management of lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) against the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) guidelines. Sixty-three cases of LGV were diagnosed in 60 men who have sex with men (MSM). Fifty-six out of 63 (89%) episodes were treated in accordance with the guidelines. Although all eligible patients were offered an HIV test, 10% and 29% of patients were not offered syphilis or hepatitis C tests, respectively, at the time of LGV diagnosis. Partner notification was not possible in a third of cases. Several patients were re-infected with rectal Chlamydia

Audit of nasal fracture management in accident and emergency in a district general hospital.

RATIONALE: Nasal fractures are a common occurrence in accident and emergency and dealt with by inexperienced senior house officers. This can lead to inappropriate X-rays being performed, no proper documentation of septal haematomas and often no follow-up with a specialist team leading to in some cases complex cosmetic surgery whereas simple manipulation may have sufficed. METHOD: We report an ambispective audit carried out on nasal fracture management in a busy district general hospital over a 6-month period. RESULTS: 46 patients were seen 24 in the first 3 months and 22 the next three. 10 h

The influence of medical audit on the management of epistaxis in three district general Hospitals.

The implementation of audit in most hospital departments in the UK has been instigated by the guidelines set out by the Royal Colleges. This paper aims to demonstrate the results of regular subregional audit meetings in the ENT departments involving three District Hospitals in East Anglia. We report the effects of audit meetings in improving the management of epistaxis, whereby a protocol for treatment and discharge was established, the duration of the nasal pack left in situ was reduced, and the material of the pack was changed.
