Various skeletal abnormalities, including chest deformity, have been reported with Turner's syndrome. We report radiologic findings of the sternum on lateral chest roentgenograms in 15 children and adolescents with Turner's syndrome, whose ages ranged between 2 weeks and 20 years. A 20-year-old heroin user developed staphylococcus septic arthritis of the manubrium joint. The diagnosis was established by a culture of the infected tissue and blood culture. The clinical impression was aided by 99mTc radionuclide scintimetry. Early diagnosis localized the infection. Immediate antibiotic therapy solved a problem in the sternum that seems not to have been reported in the English literature.

Subclavian artery thrombosis is a rare complication of sternoclavicular fractures. Also, cerebral infarcts caused by subclavian artery thrombosis, post trauma, is very unusual. We report the case of a 49 year-old female patient presenting with traumatic subclavian arterial thrombosis and cerebral infarction secondary to a fractured manubrium with posteriorly displaced right clavicle and retrograde thromboembolisation.

Congenital deformities of the chest are not uncommon, are frequently symptomatic, and are readily correctable. This applies particularly to malfusion of the manubrium and upper sternum, which results in a bony deficiency together with divarication of the sternomastoid muscles and the sternoclavicular joints. Such defects of the sternum are best corrected as soon after birth as possible. Two patients are reported who had such a defect, and the technique for a satisfactory repair is described.

Normal findings of the manubriosternal joint vary and include narrowing, irregularity, and ankylosis. Proliferative changes are common during the degenerative process, and they include osteophyte formation and sclerosis. Ankylosis may be an end result. Imaging features of inflammatory arthritides are also generally nonspecific. Bone marrow and adjacent soft tissue change on magnetic resonance imaging with no radiographic findings is a relatively early change. Only erosion and fluffy adjacent bone resorption on plain radiography and computed tomography are specific features of active arthritis.
