Immunoglobulin G4-Related Orbital Disease with Bilateral Optic Perineuritis and Maxillary Nerves Involvement: A Case Report.

Immunoglobulin G4-related optic neuropathy caused by optic perineuritis is a rare complication of immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD). Herein, we report a 38-year-old Asian man with history of sinusitis who presented with painless blurred vision and proptosis for over 6 months. Examination with the Hertel exophthalmometer revealed 21.5 mm on both eyes. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a doughnut sign encircling the right optic nerve, bilateral tram-track signs on both optic nerves, enlarged bilateral maxillary nerves with perineural spreading to the infraorbital nerves, hypertrophy

Association between Odontogenic Conditions and Maxillary Sinus Disease: A Study Using Cone-beam Computed Tomography.

INTRODUCTION: The maxillary sinus can be affected by dental infections because of its close relationship with upper teeth. This study aimed to assess the most common types of maxillary sinus alterations and to associate them with odontogenic conditions using cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images. METHODS: CBCT scans of 400 patients showing sinus disease in 1 or both maxillary sinuses were evaluated. Sinus alteration was considered as follows: generalized or localized mucosal thickening (MT), maxillary sinusitis (MS), and retention cysts (RCs). The odontogenic conditions evaluated were

Does the quality of residual alveolar bone apical to a periodontal lesion beneath the maxillary sinus play a vital role in preventing the extension of periodontal disease to maxillary sinus? A CBCT-assisted retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus is sensitivis susceptible to infection or inflammation adjacent to it, which may contribute to mucous membrane thickening (MMT). Residual alveolar bone quality (RABQ) is considered a quality of the remaining bone apical to periodontal defect adjoining to the floor of the maxillary sinus. OBJECTIVE: The current study aimed to analyze the minimum RABQ to prevent the extension of periodontal pathology from reaching maxillary sinus using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: In this retrospective observational study, 240 sinus expos

Rosai-Dorfman Disease Presenting as a Bone-Destructive Mass in the Maxillary Sinus With Orbital Extension: A Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenge.

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare histiocytic disorder characterized by massive lymphadenopathy and, in some cases, extranodal involvement, resulting in significant functional impairment. Maxillary sinus lesions with orbital extension are extremely rare and may mimic malignancy. We report the case of a 76-year-old man who presented with left lower eyelid swelling and diplopia. Computed tomography revealed a mass centered in the left maxillary sinus, extending into the orbit and buccal subcutaneous tissue, accompanied by osteolytic changes. Serologic testing, including soluble interleukin-2

RUNX2-related metaphyseal dysplasia with maxillary hypoplasia: A rare skeletal disorder resembling SFRP4-related Pyle disease.

Metaphyseal dysplasia with maxillary hypoplasia with or without brachydactyly (MDMHB) is an ultra-rare skeletal dysplasia caused by heterozygous intragenic RUNX2 duplications, comprising either exons 3 to 5 or exons 3 to 6 of RUNX2. In this study, we describe a 14-year-old Belgian boy with metaphyseal dysplasia with maxillary hypoplasia but without brachydactyly. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed mild facial dysmorphism, dental anomalies, enlarged clavicles, genua valga and metaphyseal flaring and thin cortices with an osteoporotic skeletal appearance. Exome sequencing led to the

Tooth Elongation of Maxillary Second Premolars and Mandibular Third Molars and Associated Periodontal Disease in Horses: A Retrospective Study.

Periodontal disease has been identified in horses and donkeys through the millennia at a prevalence of up to 75% and is a leading cause of tooth loss in horses. We hypothesize that there is a correlation between tooth elongations and periodontal disease. Dental records of all client owned horses examined by a single AVDC/equine board certified practitioner in 2016-2018 were analyzed. Inclusion criteria consisted of the examination finding of tooth elongation of one of the following teeth pairs 106/107, 206/207, 310/311, or 410-411. The included cases were then examined for the finding of perio

Background and Clinical Significance: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the third most common cancer that metastasizes to the oral and maxillofacial region following breast and lung cancers. Metastatic involvement in the oral cavity is rare and can present as a diagnostic challenge due to non-specific clinical features that mimic other benign or malignant conditions. The limited information available regarding oral metastasis of RCC highlights the importance of recognizing this uncommon presentation. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old female presented with a painful swelling in the buccal and palata
