Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) family of tumors is an uncommon group of malignant neoplasms that may present in both skeletal and extraskeletal sites. PNET outside the central nervous system is called peripheral PNET (pPNET) developing from migrating embryonal cells of the neural crest. Very few cases of pPNET of the maxilla are reported in English literature. These tumors may be difficult to diagnose due to their primitive morphology. These tumors occur predominantly in infancy or early childhood. The occurrence of extraskeletal ES/PNET in the maxillary sinus in an

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the prognosis and quality of life for primary malignant maxillary sinus tumors.
METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis. 164 patients diagnosed with primary malignant maxillary sinus tumors between 2005 and 2018 were recruited. Patients were treated according to the pathological type and the lesion range. Prognostic differences of different pathological types, surgical resection methods, repair methods, treatment methods, and different local recurrence sites were analyzed. Survival analysis and prognostic factors analysis were performed.
RESULTS: Overall surviva

The maxillary sinus is universally described as a pyramidal-shaped cavity in the maxilla. Hypoplasia, which can occur unilaterally or bilaterally, is graded by the authors by the degree of failure of descent below the nasal floor in achieving its position adjacent to the posterior dentition in the adult. Unlike early studies using plain X-rays, which considered pneumatization into the zygomatic recess and dental alveolus as criteria, the authors have adopted the above-cited parameters based on computed tomography (CT) imaging, which reveals that even when smaller the sinus retains a pyramidal

Ossifying fibroma is a rare benign osteogenic neoplasm arising from undifferentiated cells of the periodontal ligament. Ossifying fibroma have a well-defined border that differentiates it from fibrous dysplasia clinically, these tumors manifest as a round or ovoid, expansile, painless, slow-growing mass may displace the roots of adjacent teeth and also cause root resorption. They occur at second to fourth decade of life. Radiologically the lesion appears as a dense radiopaque mass surrounded by a thin, well-defined regular radiolucent rim. Patient underwent thorough history taking and complete

Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma is an extremely rare malignancy of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity. It is of unknown etiology, and occurs more commonly in the elderly men, with a routinely shown aggressive behavior and poor prognosis for survival. Radiographically, it looks like severe osteomyelitis. Histopathologic study is essential to confirm diagnosis, and the undifferentiated histologic appearance often necessitates immunohistochemical studies for differentiation from other high-grade neoplasms. We present an 83-year-old man complaining of pain and unilateral swelling on the l

UNLABELLED: Adenomatoid odontogenic tumour is a rare benign, odontogenic tumour with uncertain histogenesis. Whether it is a hamartoma or a neoplasm is still a controversial topic. It is usually associated with an unerupted maxillary canine. Here, we discuss a follicular adenomatoid odontogenic tumour in a young girl with uncommon features such as it arose from two unerupted teeth and partial resorption of the roots of other normal teeth. The tumour was large enough to completely occupy the maxillary sinus. It was treated with enucleation and curettage by lateral rhinotomy approach.

Central ossifying fibroma is a benign neoplasm, having slow growing nature. Some rare lesions show very aggressive nature, multifocal appearance and reach up to a very massive size. So, these kinds of cases require special attention for their treatment. A unique case of central ossifying fibroma with aggressive nature, multifocal appearance is reported. This case shows growth both in maxilla and mandible with maxillary lesion massive in size involving maxillary sinus. There have not been any such cases reported so far in the literature showing bimaxillary growth of ossifying fibroma.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the preoperative value of washing cytology in maxillary sinus lesions with suspected malignancy.
STUDY DESIGN: Over a 4-year period, 96 p tients with clinical or radiologic suspicion of a malignant maxillary sinus tumor either confined to the maxillary complex or extending to the nasal cavity underwent preoperative cytologic evaluation by sinus puncture and local washing or nasal washing. Subsequently all patients underwent endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and partial or total maxillectomy. For controls, 10 patients with rhinosinusitis, who according to standard symptoms an

BACKGROUND: Fibrosarcoma is a rare, invasive soft tissue sarcoma that is more common in males aged 30-60 years. It accounts for 1% of all malignancies in the human body. Treatment is radical surgical removal, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old Khorasani Persian male patient with a complaint of expansion, pain, and paresthesia in the left maxillary quadrant was diagnosed with infiltrative high-grade sarcoma. Tumoral cells were strongly diffuse positive for vimentin and negative for S100 and desmin, indicating high-grade adult fibrosarcoma.
CONCLUSION: This report

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT), or the Pindborg tumor, is very rare neoplasm, which accounts up to 1% of all odontogenic tumors. These tumors involve mandible almost twice as common as the maxillary bone, mostly in the premolar and molar region and present at first with local swelling. There is no gender predilection and the tumor usually appears between 2nd and 6th decade of life. We report the case of a 36-year-old male patient with a Pindborg tumor in the maxillary region on the right side, also involving the adjacent maxillary sinus, with destroying of the local anatomical

Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) represents an exceptionally rare soft-tissue tumor, challenging to diagnose, and notorious for relentless recurrence and proliferation postsurgical resection. Primary symptoms of LGFMS include nasal congestion and rhinorrhea, accompanied by cheek numbness and distension. In this article, we report the diagnosis and treatment of a case of low-grade LGFMS originating in the maxillary sinus (MS). A 64-year-old male diagnosed with LGFMS of the left MS, undergoing 3 surgeries over a 1-year period with subsequent local recurrence. Following inconclusive postoper

Ameloblastoma (AM) in the maxillary sinus is rare. This benign entity shows locally invasive, destructive and aggressive behaviour and a high rate of recurrence. Therefore, the course of treatment is radical resection. We report the case of a 38-year-old man presenting with signs of recurrent sinusitis in the Ear, Nose and Throat Department. Transnasal flexible endoscopy revealed a cystic mass in the right inferior and middle nasal passage. CT scan showed an obliterated right maxillary sinus with a ballooning effect and pressure atrophy of the lateral sinus wall, without possible differentiati

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumours (pPNETs) are highly malignant, small-cell neoplasms found mainly in children and young adults. Recent advances in immunohistochemistry and genetic typing have led to reports of a close relationship between pPNET and the previously difficult-to-classify Ewing's sarcoma. We report a case of pPNET involving the left maxillary sinus in a 23-year-old female who presented with a 2-month history of unilateral left-sided nasal obstruction, rhinorrhoea and recurrent bloody nasal discharge. A CT scan of the paranasal sinuses showed a large mass (10 x 7 x 3 cm

Schwannomas are benign tumors originate from nerve sheath. In this article, the authors aimed to share our experience and review the literature on endonasal endoscopic intervention for a maxillary sinus schwannoma. A 30-year-old Caucasian female patient applying to ophthalmology clinic due to exophthalmos and proptosis in her left eye for the last 6 months. A well-defined mass was detected in left maxillary sinus that was filling and expanding the sinus. Endoscopic biopsy from the patient was reported as ancient schwannoma. The encapsulated mass was completely removed by performing a combined
