Epidural administration of 2% Mepivacaine after spinal anesthesia does not prevent intraoperative nausea and vomiting during cesarean section: A prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Intraoperative nausea and vomiting (IONV) is a common symptom during cesarean section (CS) delivery causing significant discomfort to patients. Combined spinal and epidural anesthesia (CSEA) can provide both intraoperative anesthesia and postoperative analgesia. During CSEA, it is reasonable to administer local anesthetics to the epidural space before patient complaints to compensate for the diminished effect of spinal anesthesia. Therefore, we hypothesized that intraoperative epidural administration of 2% mepivacaine would reduce the incidence of IONV. METHODS: Patients who were …

More Predictable Return of Motor Function with Mepivacaine Versus Bupivacaine Spinal Anesthetic in Total Hip and Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Double-Blinded, Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Spinal anesthesia provides several benefits for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but historically comes at the cost of slow and unpredictable return of lower-extremity motor function related to the use of long-acting local anesthetics. In this prospective, double-blinded, randomized clinical trial we sought to determine if an alternative local anesthetic, mepivacaine, would allow more consistent return of motor function compared with low-dose bupivacaine spinal anesthesia during primary THA and TKA. METHODS: This trial was conduct…

[Combined "3-in-1"/sciatic nerve block. Block effectiveness, serum level and side effects using 700 mg mepivacaine 1% without and with adrenaline and prilocaine 1%].

UNLABELLED: A high dose of local anaesthetic is necessary for the combined "3-in-1"/sciatic nerve block. Prilocaine is recommended for its low toxicity. However, in some patients prilocaine results in pronounced methaemoglobin formation due to toludine. Little has been known hitherto about the use of high-dose mepivacaine for the combined 3-1/sciatic nerve block. This study was undertaken to compare the use of 700 mg mepivacaine 1% and of 700 mg prilocaine 1%. METHODS: The study was approved by the ethics committee of our hospital. Once their informed consent had been obtained in writing 3 x …

Comparative study of the anaesthetic efficacy of 4% articaine versus 2% mepivacaine in mandibular third molar germectomy using different anaesthetic techniques: a split-mouth clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Currently, one of the most discouraging aspects for many patients undergoing dental procedures is the administration of local anaesthesia. Therefore, there is a constant search for new techniques to avoid the invasive and painful nature of the injection. This study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of local anaesthetics with articaine 4% or mepivacaine 2% (both with epinephrine 1:100.000), using different anaesthetic techniques to perform germectomy of lower third molars and to assess patients' feelings and pain during surgery. METHODS: Totally 50 patients (ranged 11-16 years…

Lidocaine-Epinephrine-Tetracaine Gel Is More Efficient than Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics and Mepivacaine Injection for Pain Control during Skin Repair in Children: A Prospective, Propensity Score Matched Two-Center Study.

INTRODUCTION: Skin lacerations are common in children and their repair is a very unpleasant experience for a child. While pain management has been recognized as a key element of high-quality patient care, recent studies report that pain management in the pediatric emergency departments is still suboptimal. Lidocaine-epinephrine-tetracaine (LET) gel could potentially improve the traumatic experience caused by skin repair as it obviates the need for infiltration. Thus, the aim of the current study was to compare local eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA) plus mepivacaine infiltration wit…
