A ruptured infected mesenteric cyst diagnosed on laparoscopy for suspected appendicitis.

Lower abdominal pain of acute onset in young women with a negative pregnancy test is a frequent reason for referral to the general surgical team and the differential diagnoses include acute appendicitis, complicated ovarian cysts and pelvic inflammatory disease. Intestinal and mesenteric cystic disease is a rare entity and less than half of cases present acutely. We present a case of a 25-year-old woman who underwent diagnostic laparoscopy for acute lower abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a ruptured, infected mesenteric cyst.

Mesothelial mesenteric cyst in patient with ascending colon cancer. Case report.

BACKGROUND: Since its introduction, the effectiveness of dithranol in treating psoriasis has been unequalled by other topical treatments. Out-patient short-contact dithranol treatment is effective with regard to clinical response rate and relapse rate after 1 year. A drawback, however, is the relatively long treatment duration. OBJECTIVES: To study a dithranol regimen combined with a potent topical corticosteroid with regard to clinical response rate, treatment duration and remission period after clearance. METHODS: Twelve patients with stable psoriasis vulgaris participated in this study. W

A Rare Cause of Recurrent Vaginal Hydrocele: Herniating Mesenteric Hydatid Cyst.

Echinococcosis is a multisystem disease and has propensity to involve any organ, an unusual anatomical site, and can mimic any disease process. The hydatid cyst of the mesenteries known to occur secondary to hepatic involvement but occasional cases of his primitive form has also been reported. We report here one such case of primitive mesenteric hydatid cyst herniated through inguinal canal in a 5-yr-old boy, admitted to our Pediatric Surgery Department of Children's Hospital in Tunis, Tunisia in 2015.

Isolated Peritoneal, Mesenteric, and Omental Hydatid Cyst: A Clinicopathologic Narrative Review.

Hydatid disease (HD) is caused by Echinococcus granulosus and is endemic in many parts of the world. This parasitic tapeworm can produce cysts in almost every organ of the body, with the liver and lung being the most frequently targeted organs. Peritoneum, omentum, and mesentery are among these unusual locations, which can cause diagnostic challenge and treatment delay. This review provides information on the reported cases of the peritoneal, omental, and mesenteric hydatid cyst in the world during the last 20 years. During the last 20 years, there have been 49 published cases of hydatid cysts

[Polycystic hydatidosis: casual finding of calcified hydatid cyst simulating mesenteric neoplasm].

A case of abdominal hydatidosis, without hepatic involvement, in a patient from the State of Acre is reported. The hydatid, already in degeneration and partially calcified, was discovered incidentally by a radiologic examination of the vertebral column, carried out for evaluating the state of an intervertebral disk prolapse. Although the images suggested a mesenteric tumor, attached to the intestinal wall, the finding of rostellar hooklets in the dense contents of the cyst, after surgical removal, revealed the parasitic nature of the lesion.

Mesenteric cyst of lymphatic origin: a radiopathological correlation and case report.

Mesenteric cysts are uncommon abdominal masses in children. They occur most frequently in the small bowel mesentery and often contain chylous fluid. These cysts may be multilocular, grow to huge proportions and are believed to be caused by obstructed, malformed, ectopic lymphatic tissue. The patients' clinical presentations is dependent on cyst size, location and related complications such as partial or complete bowel obstruction, perforation, peritonitis, volvulus and malignant degeneration. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice. Ultrasound and CT are the most valuable modalities for

Peritonitis caused by a ruptured, infected mesenteric cyst initially interpreted as an ovarian cyst. A case report.

BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cysts are rare intraabdominal lesions of childhood that may vary in presentation from an asymptomatic mass to an acute abdomen. CASE: We encountered a rare case of peritonitis caused by a ruptured, infected mesenteric cyst of the mesocolon in a female child that had been initially interpreted as a ruptured ovarian cyst. CONCLUSION: When confronted with a large unilocular or septated echolucent mass in the lower abdomen in female children, gynecologists should consider a mesenteric cyst in the differential diagnosis.

Diagnostic Dilemma of a Giant Paratubal Cyst in an Adolescent Female Mimicking a Mesenteric Cyst: A Case Report.

Paratubal cysts are rare adnexal masses that arise from the mesosalpinx and are typically small and asymptomatic. Giant paratubal cysts are a rare entity and a diagnostic challenge, especially in adolescents, due to nonspecific presentation and radiological similarity to other intra-abdominal cystic masses. A 15-year-old female presented with progressive abdominal distension and mild, nonspecific abdominal pain of three months' duration, associated with recent menstrual irregularities. Physical exam showed a distended, non-tender abdomen. Imaging studies, including computed tomography (CT) and

Mesenteric cyst: an unusual cause of recurrent abdominal pain in a child.

Mesenteric cysts are a rare cause of intra-abdominal swellings in the paediatric age group. They are benign lesions with non-specific presentations ranging from incidental findings to features of an acute abdomen. The rarity of the condition and the non-specificity of its symptoms underscore the importance of adequate knowledge for prompt diagnosis and appropriate management. Here we present a 5-year-old preschooler from the Southeastern part of Nigeria with recurring abdominal pain of 3 years' duration. She was initially managed for symptomatic umbilical hernia and underwent herniorrhaphy. Ho

Unveiling the uncommon: a rare case of mesenteric cyst with unusual presentation.

Mesenteric cysts are rare and often enigmatic tumors that can arise from any part of the mesentery, spanning from the duodenum to the rectum. Due to their nonspecific symptoms, which can mimic a wide range of abdominal conditions, diagnosing these cysts can be particularly challenging. Here, we present the case of a 22-year-old female with no significant medical history, who underwent exploratory laparotomy for acute, generalized abdominal pain. During the procedure, she was diagnosed with a ruptured mesenteric cyst.

Giant mesenteric cysts: A rare case series with clinical insights.

INTRODUCTION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Mesenteric cysts are rare, non-cancerous tumors found mainly in children. The symptoms can vary depending on the size and location of the cyst. While the exact cause is unknown, complete surgical removal is the main and most effective treatment for mesenteric cysts. CASE PRESENTATION: Three cases involving young boys were presented. They primarily complained of abdominal swelling without pain. Radiological tests revealed mesenteric cysts near the jejunum and transverse colon, and another near the sigmoid colon, which were both successfully removed. CLINICAL DIS

Volvulus Due to Mesenteric Cysts in Infants and Children; A Case Report.

Mesenteric cysts are defined as benign intra-abdominal tumors located in the mesentery. It was a rare disease with an incidence of 1:20000 in children. The most common location was in the small bowel mesentery. Most patients with mesenteric cysts are asymptomatic and have unspecific symptoms like dyspepsia, abdominal enlargement, and abdominal pain. The fewer others could present with an acute abdomen. We describe two cases of volvulus due to the mesenteric cyst; one case in an infant and one case in a child. There is a different clinical presentation and histopathology between infants and chi

[Mesenteric cyst as a cause of acute abdomen. Report of 3 cases].

Mesenteric cyst is a tumor of multiple origins that surely are found more frequently than the literature report, at any rate, this tumor is uncommon. Because of absence of characteristic clinical findings, diagnosis cumbersome, until these cysts are of such a size that palpation becomes possible or when they cause compression to nearby viscera. Occasionally, diagnosis is made during surgery, even when it was emergency surgery. The present paper reports on three patients with mesenteric cyst found during surgery as emergency treatment. Histopathologic reports showed lymphangioma in two cases an

A rare presentation of mesenteric cyst as persistent ascites: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cysts have been typically described as cystic lesions of mesentery or omentum occurring either intra-abdominally or in the retroperitoneum. With no typical symptoms, the preoperative diagnosis of mesenteric cyst becomes challenging to establish. PATIENT AND METHODS: In this case report, we describe the case of a 29-year-old female who presented with abdominal distension for seven years associated with intermittent constipation. Following complete history, a meticulous physical examination was performed. Laboratory investigations and radiological imaging techniques were

Chylolymphatic mesenteric cyst with midgut volvulus in an adolescent: a peculiar presentation.

Mesenteric cysts are rare intra-abdominal masses in the pediatric population, with the chylolymphatic variant comprising only 7.3% of all abdominal cysts. These cysts can have a varied clinical presentation, ranging from asymptomatic cystic masses to intestinal obstruction. We report a 16-year-old female, who presented with acute abdominal pain and vomiting, and was diagnosed with an intra-abdominal cystic mass with midgut volvulus accompanied by the classical "whirlpool sign" on imaging. She underwent laparoscopic abdominal exploration, which revealed a large chylolymphatic mesenteric cyst as

Prenatally diagnosed giant mesenteric cyst in the pelvis in an ICSI twin.

The evidence of risk for birth defects due to artificial reproductive technology (ART) cycles is not yet clear. However, there may be a possible link between ART cycles and epigenetic abnormalities. Abdominal cysts are rarely seen pathologies after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. A giant mesenteric cyst was diagnosed in one of the ICSI twins by ultrasonograhic examination at 14th gestational week. Infants born following ART are at increased risk of birth defects, compared to spontaneously conceived infants. When a mesenteric cyst is prenatally diagnosed, the differential diagno
