Nanosized A2SnO4 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) : 1% Eu with diameters ranging from 50 to 100 nm were synthesized by complex sol-gel methods. The structures and spectral properties of A2SnO4 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) : Eu were studied by using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and luminescence spectra. We propose a scheme to directly laser cool Rydberg atoms by laser cooling the residual ion core within the Rydberg-electron orbit. The scheme is detailed for alkaline-earth-metal Rydberg atoms, whose ions can be easily laser cooled. We demonstrate that a closed optical cooling cycle can be found despite the perturbations caused by the Rydberg electron and that this cycle can be driven over more than 100 μs to achieve laser cooling. The cooling dynamics with and without the presence of magnetic fields are discussed in detail.

Cation-π interactions between alkali, alkaline earth and ammonium cations and sandwich compounds of benzene and the cyclopentadienyl (Cp) anion were studied using quantum chemical CCSD(T)/CBS and DFT (B3LYP/def2-TZVP) calculations. The role of monovalent (Na+, K+) and divalent (Ca2+, Mg2+) cations in Bufo arenarum fertilization was analysed. BACKGROUND: Imbalances in alkali elements (AEs) and alkaline earth elements (AEEs) cause reproductive disorders. However, it remains unclear whether AEs/AEEs in follicular fluid have a relationship with the serious reproductive disorder known as diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
METHODS: A nested case‒control study was carried out in China. Follicular fluid samples from 154 DOR patients and 154 controls were collected and assessed for nine AEs/AEE levels. Both the mixed and single effects of the elements on DOR were estimated with a Bayesian kernel machine (BKMR) and logistic regressions.

A novel polymer-based weak cation exchanger functionalized with dicarboxyl groups is described. The stationary phase was synthesized through radical-initiated copolymerization of maleic anhydride and glycidyl methacrylate onto porous poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) microspheres, followed by hydrolysis to yield carboxylate groups. The resultant cation exchanger enables simultaneous isocratic separation of alkali and alkaline earth metals (including NH₄⁺) using a single strong acid eluent. The catalytic performance of various metal chlorides in the conversion of cellulose to levulinic acid in liquid water at high temperatures was investigated.
