Posttraumatic growth in clinical psychology - a critical review and introduction of a two component model.

Positive psychological or personal changes in the aftermath of trauma, defined as the result of the struggle with highly stressful events, have recently elicited heightened attention by trauma researchers. This article aims at summarizing the most important theoretical models and conceptualizations of posttraumatic growth (PTG) and addresses the issue of the adaptive significance of this phenomenon. It further renders a thorough empirical review of the relationship between PTG and psychological adjustment. European findings are specifically incorporated. As a conclusion, a two component cognit

Psychological Stress Overactivates IL-23/Th17 Inflammatory Axis and Increases cDC2 in Imiquimod-Induced Psoriasis Models of C57BL/6 Mice.

Psychological stress often accompanies psoriasis, and both conditions involve an overactive IL-23/Th17 inflammatory axis. However, the mechanism behind the comorbidity of psoriasis and psychological stress remains unclear. This study established a mouse model of comorbid psoriasis and psychological stress to investigate the impact on skin inflammation and the IL-23/Th17 axis. Chronic restraint stress and imiquimod cream were used to induce psychological stress and psoriasis. Behavioural tests included the open-field test and elevated plus maze, while psoriasis severity was assessed using the P

Complex affect dynamics offer limited incremental value for cross-sectional prediction of psychological and behavioural variables in cross-validated models.

BACKGROUND: There is growing interest in the use of end-of-day dairies (EODD) as a means for quantifying how individuals' affective experiences fluctuate over time, and how such dynamics relate to mental health variables. A plethora of methods exist for precisely quantifying these affect dynamics, but recent work pooling data from multiple studies has suggested that most of the variance in outcome measures of depression, borderline symptoms, and life satisfaction is captured by simple measures, such as the mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) of affect ratings over time. Ever-more sophisticate

Towards scalable psychological first aid training: an autoethnographic exploration of the potential of large language models in simulation-based learning.

Background: Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a widely used approach to provide psychosocial support to individuals in the aftermath of a stressful event. PFA training requires a costly, structured approach, including repetitive simulation-based training with actors. The rapid emergence of large language models (LLMs) could provide easy access to PFA simulation training, enabling trainees to practice conversations repeatedly and flexibly, learn from mistakes, and build emotional resilience. In addition, this would allow for training in geographically isolated regions where PFA training may be m

AI-driven talent management and organizational psychology: A structural model of talent pool effectiveness.

This cross-sectional study examines associations among HR technology adoption (HRTA), an AI-supportive organizational psychological climate (OPF), employees' AI-driven psychological adoption (AIPA), and perceived talent pool management effectiveness (TPME). The archived analysis used covariance-based structural equation modeling with 184 respondents. To address conceptual ambiguity in the prior version, AIPA is defined consistently as employees' psychological acceptance of AI-enabled HR systems, reflected in trust, perceived fairness, and willingness to use such systems; OPF is treated as a pr

Beyond the dichotomy between controlled and naturalistic paradigms: modeling psychological constructs in cognitive neuroscience.

Cognitive neuroscience aims to link psychological constructs to brain activity, but this goal depends critically on how such constructs are operationalized. Conventional controlled paradigms define constructs through task contrasts or parametric manipulations, providing interpretability by restricting the range of stimuli, behavioral responses, and task demands. Naturalistic paradigms instead use complex, temporally extended stimuli such as movies, narratives, and music, enabling brain activity to be modeled in relation to continuous, multidimensional features of real-world inputs. With the ri

Designing a precision career-guidance model based on student psychological profiling in higher education.

INTRODUCTION: In the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education, the demand for personalized and data driven career guidance has become increasingly critical. Traditional career counseling methods often rely on standardized assessments and static recommendations, which fail to capture the diversity of student characteristics, learning preferences, and evolving aspirations. METHODS: To address this challenge, this paper proposes the Psychological Profiling Driven Career Guidance Model, abbreviated as PPDCGM, for precision career guidance in higher education. The framework integrates psycho

A scalable new model of germline cancer genomic care delivery: Assessing psychological outcomes.

PURPOSE: New care models promise to increase access to germline genetic testing. To decrease testing gaps, we offered universal germline testing without pretest genetic counseling to unselected patients at a comprehensive cancer center. To address safety concerns over the elimination of pretest counseling, we examined detrimental psychological impact (DPI) after participants underwent testing in this novel model. METHODS: We assessed participants' genomic testing-specific DPI using the Feelings About Genomic Testing Results instrument (2-weeks/6-months after disclosure). Overall DPI, negativi

From Prompts to Constructs: A Dual-Validity Framework for Large Language Model Research in Psychology.

Large language models (LLMs) are entering psychological research both as tools and as objects of inquiry. Yet many studies apply human instruments to LLMs without establishing that the outputs are reliable or interpretable, raising the risk of measurement phantoms-statistical regularities mistaken for genuine psychological phenomena. This review argues that robust AI psychological research requires integrating two methodological traditions: psychometric validation of what a score means and causal inference standards for what the results warrant. It develops a dual-validity framework in which e

The psychological architecture of employee disengagement: a structural model of the antecedents and behavioral outcomes of quiet quitting.

BACKGROUND: Quiet quitting, defined as disengagement through the restriction of effort to formal job requirements, is a growing organizational concern. Prior research has examined its predictors in isolation. This study aimed to test an integrated structural model combining personality, affect, and work attitudes to explain quiet quitting and its behavioral outcomes. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey of 601 working adults from Pakistan and the United States assessed Big Five traits, negative affect, work engagement, job satisfaction, quiet quitting, work withdrawal, and presenteeism. From Cognitive Restructuring to Spiritual Purification: A Theoretical Synthesis of the Transactional Model and Islamic Psychology.

BACKGROUND: In mental health nursing practice, the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping developed by Lazarus and Folkman is widely used as the primary framework for stress management. However, developments in the literature indicate that in conditions of severe stress and existential crisis, particularly when stressors are immutable, purely secular cognitive restructuring approaches may be complemented by incorporating spiritual dimensions. Conceptual studies on meaning-making emphasise that efforts to search for meaning that do not lead to resolution can instead develop into rumination an

Understanding the developmental impact of psychological maltreatment through the lens of the dimensional model of adversity and psychopathology.

Background: Psychological maltreatment is linked to negative developmental outcomes in adolescents. It includes psychological abuse (PA) and psychological neglect (PN), which are commonly studied as a pair. This study applied the dimensional model of adversity and psychopathology (DMAP), which conceptualises abuse as a threatening experience involving harm or the threat of harm that primarily impairs social-emotional processing, such as emotion regulation, while it views neglect as deprivation or absence of parental care that predominantly affects cognitive functioning, such as working memory.

Mathematical modeling of the combined influence of psychological fear and imperfect vaccination on the spectrum of COVID-19.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that during an epidemic, fear can significantly influence human behavior, leading to a reduction in new infection cases. This investigation introduces an SVIRS framework that accounts for the influence of psychological fear and imperfect vaccination. The dynamic interplay between these factors opens up novel avenues for analyzing disease progression and control. After formulating the model and establishing fundamental properties such as positivity and boundedness, we derive the basic reproduction number ℛ0 and identify equilibrium points. We prove the local a

Exploring psychological distress among lung cancer patients through the stress system model.

Lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally, often leads to anxiety, fear and other psychological distress due to its poor prognosis, treatment challenges, and financial burden. Prolonged distress may progress to depression or other mental health disorders, adversely affecting patients' quality of life and treatment outcomes. This study examines the prevalence and determinants of psychological distress in lung cancer patients, offering a theoretical basis for timely clinical interventions. This cross-sectional study applied the stress system model to analyze 435 convenien

Associations of Social Psychological Factors and OHRQoL in Periodontitis Patients: A Structural Equation Modeling Study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Periodontitis is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults worldwide. The functional loss, nutritional deficiencies, and psychological barriers it causes, as well as its impact on overall health and quality of life, are all significant. The prevalence of periodontal disease is high in China. Our study aimed to determine the intricate relationship between periodontal disease status, dental anxiety, self-rated oral health (SROH), self-efficacy for oral care, perceived social support, socioeconomic status (SES), and the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among pe

Effect of trauma on asylum seekers and refugees receiving a WHO psychological intervention: a mediation model.

Background: Scalable psychological interventions such as the WHO's Self-Help Plus (SH+) have been developed for clinical and non-clinical populations in need of psychological support. SH+ has been successfully implemented to prevent common mental disorders among asylum seekers and refugees who are growing in number due to increasing levels of forced migration. These populations are often exposed to multiple, severe sources of traumatisation, and evidence of the effect of such events on treatment is insufficient, especially for non-clinical populations. Objective: We aim to study the effect of p

Chronic Social and Psychological Stress Impact Select Neuropathologies in the PS19 Mouse Model of Tauopathy.

OBJECTIVE: Despite advances toward understanding the etiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), it remains unclear which aspects of this disease are affected by environmental factors. Chronic life stress increases the risk of aging-related diseases including AD. The impact of stress on tauopathies remains understudied. We examined the effects of stress elicited by social (chronic subordination stress [CSS]) or psychological/physical (chronic restraint stress [CRS]) factors on the PS19 mouse model of tauopathy. METHODS: Male PS19 mice (average age, 6.3 months) were randomized to receive CSS or CRS,
