Molecular Characterization of MaCCS, a Novel Copper Chaperone Gene Involved in Abiotic and Hormonal Stress Responses in Musa acuminata cv. Tianbaojiao.

Copper/zinc superoxide dismutases (Cu/ZnSODs) play important roles in improving banana resistance to adverse conditions, but their activities depend on the copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase (CCS) delivering copper to them. However, little is known about CCS in monocots and under stress conditions. Here, a novel CCS gene (MaCCS) was obtained from a banana using reverse transcription PCR and rapid-amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) PCR. Sequence analyses showed that MaCCS has typical CCS domains and a conserved gene structure like other plant CCSs. Alternative transcription start sites (A

Banana fruit NAC transcription factor MaNAC5 cooperates with MaWRKYs to enhance the expression of pathogenesis-related genes against Colletotrichum musae.

Plants respond to pathogen attack by the modulation of a large set of genes, which are regulated by different types of transcription factor (TF). NAC (NAM/ATAF/CUC) and WRKY are plant-specific families of TFs, and have received much attention as transcriptional regulators in plant pathogen defence. However, the cooperation between NAC and WRKY TFs in the disease response remains largely unknown. Our previous study has revealed that two banana fruit WRKY TFs, MaWRKY1 and MaWRKY2, are involved in salicylic acid (SA)- and methyl jasmonate (MeJA)-induced resistance against Colletotrichum musae via

Genome sequence of Ralstonia syzygii subsp. celebesensis, the causal agent of banana blood disease on Musa balbisiana cultivar Kepok in bali, Indonesia.

OBJECTIVES: Blood Disease of Banana brought on by Ralstonia syzygii subsp. celebesensis (Rsc) results in yield losses in Indonesia up to 90%. Among the symptoms are wilting, vascular staining, fruit rot, and plant death. Pathogen travels via contaminated tools, water runoff, pests, and pollinators. Originally reported in South Sulawesi, it now affects all of the main Indonesian islands as well as Malaysia. Though its influence is known, understanding of Rsc pathogenesis is less than that of Ralstonia solanacearum. This study investigates the different genome of Rsc isolate from Bali, geographi

Ovary Metal Toxicity Remediation by Agro-Food Waste: Evidence for a Regulatory Mechanism of Oxidative Stress by Banana (Musa cavendish) Peel Extract.

Banana (Musa cavendish) peel, usually discarded as waste, is a polyphenol-rich source with antioxidant and chelating properties. This study evaluated its ability to mitigate ovarian toxicity induced by a heavy metal mixture (HMM) consisting of Hg, Mn, Pb, and Al in female rats. Animals received the HMM with or without banana peel extract at 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg dosages for 60 days. Co-treatment dose-dependently reduced ovarian metal accumulation, attenuated oxidative and nitrosative stress (MDA, NO), restored antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, CAT, GSH, GPx), and modulated pro-inflammatory

Transcriptome and Gene Co-Expression Network Analysis Identifying Differentially Expressed Genes and Signal Pathways Involved in the Height Development of Banana (Musa spp.).

Plant height is an important and valuable agronomic trait associated with yield and resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. Dwarfism has positive effects on plant development and field management, especially for tall monocotyledon banana (Musa spp.). However, several key genes and their regulation mechanism of controlling plant height during banana development are unclear. In the present study, the popular cultivar 'Brazilian banana' ('BX') and its dwarf mutant ('RK') were selected to identify plant height-related genes by comparing the phenotypic and transcriptomic data. Banana seedlings w

Activation of salicylic acid metabolism and signal transduction can enhance resistance to Fusarium wilt in banana (Musa acuminata L. AAA group, cv. Cavendish).

Fusarium wilt caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubens (Foc) is the most serious disease that attacks banana plants. Salicylic acid (SA) can play a key role in plant-microbe interactions. Our study is the first to examine the role of SA in conferring resistance to Foc TR4 in banana (Musa acuminata L. AAA group, cv. Cavendish), which is the greatest commercial importance cultivar in Musa. We used quantitative real-time reverse polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) to analyze the expression profiles of 45 genes related to SA biosynthesis and downstream signaling pathways in a suscepti

Efficient CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing of phytoene desaturase in Musa-AAA: a critical step for genetic improvement of east African highland bananas.

East African highland bananas (EAHBs), locally referred to as "matooke", are an important staple crop in Uganda. The EAHBs have a triploid genome (AAA) with a large phenotypic diversity in the Great Lakes region of Africa and are challenged by both abiotic and biotic factors. The EAHBs have been improved through conventional breeding and genetic engineering though facing challenges such as genetic drag of unfavorable traits and complex regulatory processes, respectively. Therefore, a more precise approach for crop improvement such as genome editing is highly recommended. In the current study,

Effect of methanolic extract of Musa sapientum leaves on gastrointestinal transit time in normal and alloxan induced diabetic rats: possible mechanism of action.

Disorders of gastrointestinal motility have been associated with diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycaemia particularly has been reported to inhibit gastrointestinal transit time while glibenclamide, a sulphonylurea and insulin, both increased transit time. Musa sapientum has also been reported as an antidiabetic agent but there is dearth of information on the effect of this plant on gastrointestinal motility. This study was therefore carried out to investigate the effect of methanolic extract of Musa sapientum leaves (MEMSL) on gastrointestinal transit time (GITT) in male albino rats with and without

["adeste omnes Logicae et Mathematicae Musae". Johannes Broscius's Apology of Aristotle and Euclid (1652) and the issue of anti-Ramism at the Academy of Cracow].

This article discusses a largely overlooked aspect of the last work by Johannes Broscius (1585 - 1652), his Apologia pro Aristotele et Euclide contra Petrum Ramum et alios of 1652. While the past researchers focused their attention on the evaluation of Broscius's contribution to mathematics, geometry in particular, they ignored the socio-scientific aspect of his work, that is the way Peter Ramus and his followers have been presented and how did the dark legend of Ramus have been thus revived at the Central-European university in the middle of 17th century. I am showing types of rhetorical argu
