Heidelberg Neuro-Music Therapy Enhances Task-Negative Activity in Tinnitus Patients.

Background: Suffering from tinnitus causes mental distress in most patients. Recent findings point toward a diminished activity of the brain's default-mode network (DMN) in subjects with mental disorders including depression or anxiety and also recently in subjects with tinnitus-related distress. We recently developed a therapeutic intervention, namely the Heidelberg Neuro-Music Therapy (HNMT), which shows an effective reduction of tinnitus-related distress following a 1-week short-term treatment. This approach offers the possibility to evaluate the neural changes associated with the improveme

The role of music therapy and music-based interventions in male mental health: a narrative review of mechanisms, barriers, and clinical implications.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Men bear a disproportionate burden of undertreated mental health problems globally yet consistently underutilize formal psychological services, primarily due to traditional masculine norms that frame help-seeking as incompatible with masculine identity. Music therapy and music-based interventions offer a promising pathway that may circumvent these barriers by providing masculinity-congruent, non-clinical contexts for emotional expression and social connection. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on the mechanisms, outcomes, and clinical implications of music thera

The hidden therapist: evidence for a central role of music in psychedelic therapy.

RATIONALE: Recent studies have supported the safety and efficacy of psychedelic therapy for mood disorders and addiction. Music is considered an important component in the treatment model, but little empirical research has been done to examine the magnitude and nature of its therapeutic role. OBJECTIVES: The present study assessed the influence of music on the acute experience and clinical outcomes of psychedelic therapy. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews inquired about the different ways in which music influenced the experience of 19 patients undergoing psychedelic therapy with psilocybin

Resting-State Network Plasticity Induced by Music Therapy after Traumatic Brain Injury.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is characterized by a complex pattern of abnormalities in resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) and network dysfunction, which can potentially be ameliorated by rehabilitation. In our previous randomized controlled trial, we found that a 3-month neurological music therapy intervention enhanced executive function (EF) and increased grey matter volume in the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) in patients with moderate-to-severe TBI (N = 40). Extending this study, we performed longitudinal rsFC analyses of resting-state fMRI data using a ROI-to-ROI approach ass
