Multiple segment spectacle lenses for myopia control. Part 2: Impact on myopia progression.

PURPOSE: Initial studies have suggested that multiple segment (MS) spectacle lenses can reduce the progression rate of childhood myopia and axial eye growth. This paper aimed to compare the effectiveness of two different available designs of MS lens and to explore the nature of their control effect. METHOD: Published data from the only two clinical trials in which changes in mean spherical equivalent refraction (SER) and axial length (AL) for matched groups of myopic children wearing either MS or single-vision (SV) spectacle corrections, recorded over a period of at least 2 years, were furthe

Systematic Review of Myopia Progression after Cessation of Optical Interventions for Myopia Control.

Despite high discontinuation rates for myopia optical interventions, limited attention has been given to the potential rebound effects post-discontinuation. This systematic review aims to assess the extent of the rebound effects following the cessation of common clinical optical myopia-control interventions in children. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, and ClinicalTrials.gov was conducted from inception to October 2023. The rebound effects, defined as changes in the axial length or spherical equivalent during and after treatment cessation, were categorized into four

Shaping the future of myopia: artificial intelligence for vitreoretinal complications of high and pathologic myopia.

PURPOSE: The global impact of myopia extends far beyond individual ocular health, posing significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide. Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning (DL) applied to ophthalmic imaging, offers a promising strategy to ease constraints posed by the myopia epidemic by detecting subtle structural changes early. Here we describe the current literature on AI for detecting retinal sequelae of myopia, including retinal detachments (RD), myopic macular degeneration (MMD), and myopic traction maculopathy (MTM), with attention to imaging modality and mo

[Documents on the origins of myopia. 2. The genetic factor in the origin of myopia (author's transl)].

The study reported confirms that the inheritance of myopia may be autosomal-dominant as well as autosomal recessive. The recessive type starts earlier and is more serious in its course. The genes which determine myopia were found to be of low expressivity and penetrance, with some modifying factors which influence its origin. The length of the ocular axis, refractive power of the cornea, general refraction and refractive power of the lens are, in the order stated, consecutively less heritable. No genetically determined parameters of dynbamic refraction were found. The genetic factor is much mo

EVO/EVO+ Visian Implantable Collamer Lenses for the correction of myopia and myopia with astigmatism.

INTRODUCTION: Intraocular lens implantation in phakic eyes for the correction of refractive error is currently a widespread procedure. The EVO and EVO+ Visian Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICL) are two of the most prevalent lenses implanted. They incorporate a central orifice to avoid the need for iridotomy. The main difference between both ICL is the higher optical diameter zone provided by the EVO+, allowing a better quality of vision at night. This review aims to provide an overview of the current ICL models available for correcting myopia and myopic astigmatism. AREAS COVERED: During the l
