Designing a carbon nanofiber-encapsulated iron carbide anode and nickel-cobalt sulfide-decorated carbon nanofiber cathode for high-performance supercapacitors.

To meet the crucial demand for high-performance supercapacitors, much effort has been devoted to exploring electrode materials with nanostructures and electroactive chemical compositions. Herein, iron carbide nanoparticles are encapsulated into carbon nanofibers (Fe3C@CNF-650) through electrospinning and annealing methods. Nickel-cobalt sulfide nanoparticles are hydrothermally grown on electrospun carbon nanofibers (CNF@NiCoS-650). The Faradaic electrochemical reactions of transition metal compounds improve the specific capacitance of the developed electrode. Meanwhile, the electrically conduc

Flexible and Superhydrophobic Composites with Dual Polymer Nanofiber and Carbon Nanofiber Network for High-Performance Chemical Vapor Sensing and Oil/Water Separation.

Polymer nanofiber composites with superhydrophobicity are promising for the chemical vapor sensing or oil/water separation, but it remains challenging to develop superhydrophobic, anticorrosive, and durable nanofiber composites that can achieve both the organic solvent vapor detection and oil (organic solvent)/water separation with high separation flux and excellent recyclability. Here, a flexible, stretchable, and superhydrophobic/superoleophilic nanofiber composite membrane with excellent photothermal conversion performance is fabricated by decorating carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with a hollow s

Harmine-loaded PCL/PVA multilayer nanofibers for targeted pancreatic cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest malignancies because of late diagnosis, rapid metastasis, and poor response to conventional therapies. Localized drug delivery systems based on electrospun nanofibers may improve therapeutic outcomes by enabling sustained local drug release while minimizing systemic toxicity. This study developed harmine (HAR)-loaded multilayer nanofibers using polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and evaluated their physicochemical characteristics and anti-cancer effects against ASPC-1 pancreatic cancer cells. RESULTS: Bilayer and trila

Carbon-confined FeCo alloys on conductive nanofibers for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis.

Alloy electrocatalysts for zinc-air batteries often suffer from aggregation and weak interfacial coupling. Herein, alkali lignin-assisted electrospinning is used to construct carbon-confined FeCo alloys on Ti4O7 nanofibers. The alkali lignin-derived carbon layer and Ti4O7 framework synergistically stabilize alloy sites and enhance interfacial coupling, enabling excellent bifunctional ORR/OER performance.

Immunomodulatory-osteogenic dual-functional nanofibers augment screw anchorage in osteoporotic bone.

Screw fixation remains the primary clinical strategy for osteoporotic fractures (OPF). However, impaired osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and limited cellular migration often lead by osseointegration failure and screw loosening. Inspired by the architectural concept of "column-interface synergistic load-bearing", we developed a polydopamine-functionalized coaxial electrospun nanofiber scaffold (S-MS-PDA) to address both biological and mechanical fixation challenges at the screw-bone interface. The scaffold's coaxial design enabled the spatiotemporal sequ

Nanofibers for organoid cultivation advances from chemical, physical and biological dimensions.

Organoids are high-fidelity in vitro models with substantial potential in biomedicine. However, traditional animal-derived matrix gels contain undefined components and have unpredictable mechanical properties, which greatly hinder the standardization and functional maturation of organoids. In recent years, nanofibers have emerged as an ideal substrate for organoid cultivation because of their structural similarity to natural extracellular matrices and their easily tunable properties. Accordingly, this article systematically reviews the synergistic effects of nanofibers across chemical, physica

Biomimetic Nanochannel Nanofibers with Enhanced Superhydrophilicity for Efficient Moisture-Wicking Fabrics.

Unidirectional moisture-wicking fabrics have garnered significant attention due to their ability to swiftly transport sweat away from the surface of the human skin, thereby enhancing the thermal and moisture comfort of athletes, boiler workers, and other individuals engaged in high-temperature occupations. However, existing nylon/polyester moisture-wicking fabrics lack rapid transport, causing discomfort. Therefore, inspired by bamboo fiber, multistage water-conducting fibrous membranes with superhydrophilic nanochannel and asymmetric wettability are prepared via multistep electrospinning and

Chitosan-based electrospun nanofibers for diabetic foot ulcer management; recent advances.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) healing has long been a major medical challenge. The type of dressing is an essential factor in wound healing, prevention of local infection, and scar formation. Today, smart wound dressings or wound healing patches can precisely control drug delivery to the target tissue and prevent this significant complication. Nanofiber (NF) wound dressings are effective in reducing wound scarring and helping to speed up the healing process for DFU. The electrospun NFs have a suitable surface topography, density, and three-dimensional structure, which can be considered an efficien

Effect of Carbon Nanofibers on the Viscoelastic Response of Epoxy Resins.

Two epoxy resins with different viscosities were enhanced up to 1 wt.%, applying a simple method with carbon nanofibers (CNFs). These were characterized in terms of static bending stress, stress relaxation, and creep tests. In bending, the contents of 0.5 wt.% and 0.75 wt.% of CNFs on Ebalta and Sicomin epoxies, respectively, promote higher relative bending stress (above 11.5% for both) and elastic modulus (13.1% for Sicomin and 16.2% for Ebalta). This highest bending stress and modulus occurs for the lower viscosity resin (Ebalta) due to its interfacial strength and dispersibility of the fill

Electrospun nanofibers containing CdTe@ZnNi-MOF for electrochemiluminescent determination of chlorpyrifos.

Electrospun nanofibers containing CdTe@ZnNi-metal-organic frameworks (CdTe@ZnNi-MOF NFs) were used for the first time in luminol-O2 electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system to construct ECL sensor for chlorpyrifos (CPF) detection. Firstly, CdTe@ZnNi-MOF NFs obtained by blending method was used to modify the surface of a glassy carbon electrode, and then, the proposed solid-state ECL sensor was constructed by dropping luminol onto the surface of nanofiber benefiting from chitosan (CTS) viscosity. CdTe@ZnNi-MOF NFs with its large surface area and porosity can be used not only as luminol carrier but

Dual drug-loaded coaxial nanofibers for the treatment of corneal abrasion.

Corneal abrasion is a scratch wound on the surface of the anterior segment of the eye, which can predispose a patient to corneal infection and scarring, particularly if the cut penetrates to the deep corneal layers. Here we investigate a novel approach to co-administer an anti-scarring agent and an antibiotic, both being incorporated into one dosage form so as to accelerate wound closure and to treat any associated infection. More specifically, we have used electrospun fibers as a means of incorporating the two drugs into distinct compartments via coaxial electrospinning. Samples were characte

ZnO-carbon nanofibers for stable, high response, and selective H2S sensors.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), as a typical atmospheric pollutant, is neurotoxic and flammable even at a very low concentration. In this study, we design stable H2S sensors based on ZnO-carbon nanofibers. Nanofibers with 30.34 wt% carbon are prepared by a facial electrospinning route followed by an annealing treatment. The resulting H2S sensors show excellent selectivity and response compared to the pure ZnO nanofiber H2S sensors, particularly the response in the range of 102-50 ppm of H2S. Besides, they exhibited a nearly constant response of approximately 40-20 ppm of H2S over 60 days. The superior

Comparison of H2S gas destruction potential using TIO2 nanofibers and nanoparticles.

TiO2 nanoparticles and nanofibers have been used to carry out a comparative study of the destruction of H2S gas. Effects of sulphur doping have also been incorporated to assess the maximum destruction potential of the nanomaterials. An analysis has been made in this paper to evaluate and compare the performance of pure and sulphur-doped TiO2 nanoparticles and nanofibers for the destruction of H2S gas using photocatalysis under laboratory conditions. Regression modelling has been performed to ascertain the individual degradation rates of the nanoparticles and nanofibers. In addition, oxidation
