Narrative medicine intervention for mental wellbeing in Juvenile Myositis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Children with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) have increased rates of anxiety and depression (15-65%) when compared to healthy children. Narrative medicine, a group-based intervention that allows patients to reflect on medical experiences, improves patient-reported outcomes with reduces depression rates in adults. Given limited data in pediatric rheumatology, this study assesses feasibility of a patient-targeted narrative medicine intervention and its impact on mental health burden in JDM and JIA. METHODS: We prospectively recruited patients

Towards trustworthy artificial intelligence in musculoskeletal medicine: A narrative review on uncertainty quantification.

INTRODUCTION: Deep learning (DL) models have achieved remarkable performance in musculoskeletal (MSK) medical imaging research, yet their clinical integration remains hindered by their black-box nature and the absence of reliable confidence measures. Uncertainty quantification (UQ) seeks to bridge this gap by providing each DL prediction with a calibrated estimate of uncertainty, thereby fostering clinician trust and safer deployment. METHODS: We conducted a targeted narrative review, performing expert-driven searches in PubMed, Scopus, and arXiv and mining references from relevant publicatio

Precision Medicine in Diabetic Kidney Disease: A Narrative Review Framed by Lived Experience.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) for which many treatments exist that have been shown to prevent CKD progression and kidney failure. However, DKD is a complex and heterogeneous etiology of CKD with a spectrum of phenotypes and disease trajectories. In this narrative review, we discuss precision medicine approaches to DKD, including genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and their potential role in the management of diabetes mellitus and DKD. A patient and caregivers of patients with lived experience with CKD were involved in this

A Layered Framework for Biological Aesthetics: A Narrative Review of Regenerative Medicine in Cosmetic Science.

Biological aesthetics applies regenerative substances, including platelet-rich fibrin, mesenchymal stem cells, and fat-derived biological matrices, with emerging adjunctive roles for peptides and exosomes. These approaches have gained attention because of their potential regenerative and biocompatible properties. However, comparative safety, clinical effectiveness, and durability remain uncertain because the available evidence is heterogeneous and, for several modalities, limited to preclinical studies or small clinical investigations. A layered approach addressing bone, fascia, fat, dermis, a

The Role of Precision Medicine in Neuroblastoma: Targeted Therapies and Personalized Approaches-A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor and contributes the most to pediatric oncology deaths worldwide. Its clinical manifestations are heterogeneous, including relapses, and the prognosis remains poor, especially for high-risk patients. The principal interventions-surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy-exacerbate the prognosis due to high morbidity and poor long-term remission rates. This study attempts to integrate available information on the genetic and molecular characteristics of neuroblastoma, focusing on how the potential of precision medicine i

Virtues and Narratives in Medicine: An Analysis and Collection of Virtue-Illustrating Stories in Medical Journals.

This paper draws from a framework of virtue ethics and narrative medicine to present a content analysis and teaching resource of virtue-illustrating stories found in medical journals. As acquired dispositions, virtues are cultivated not merely by listening to lectures but through reflection, experience, role-modeling, practice, and internalization. One way to encourage such cultivation is to use narratives to illustrate moral virtues in action. With this in mind, we identified a literature-based taxonomy of 12 core virtues in medicine, selected a sample of 180 narratives published in medical j

Therapeutic Potential of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicines in Intracerebral Haemorrhage: A Narrative Review.

Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) remains a devastating stroke subtype with limited therapeutic options, creating an urgent need for complementary strategies that target secondary brain injury and recovery. Traditional Chinese herbal medicines (TCHMs) have attracted interest because of their potential multitarget actions on neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, ferroptosis, blood-brain barrier dysfunction, haematoma resolution, gut microbiota dysbiosis and neurovascular repair. Relevant preclinical, clinical and translational studies were identified through a structured search of inter

From bench to bedside: A narrative review of regenerative medicine approaches for postprostatectomy incontinence.

Postprostatectomy urinary incontinence (PPUI) is a prevalent complication following radical prostatectomy, with long‑term incontinence affecting up to one‑third of patients. Conventional treatments are limited by inconsistent efficacy, side effects or invasiveness, indicating demand for alternative therapies. This narrative review assessed clinical evidence of regenerative therapies, especially autologous stem cell approaches, for PPUI. We searched multiple databases for studies published between 2010 and 2024; eligible articles were clinical trials using stem cell therapies for PPUI, while no

Use of Neuromuscular Blocking Agents in Elderly Patients: A Narrative Review in Geriatric Medicine.

With the growing number of elderly patients undergoing surgical procedures, the use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in geriatric anesthesia has become increasingly relevant. Aging is associated with physiological and pathological changes that affect drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, including reduced renal and hepatic function, altered body composition, and decreased plasma protein levels. These changes influence the onset, duration, and recovery from neuromuscular blockade, increasing the risk of postoperative residual curarization (PORC) and respiratory complications. This

NcRNA Regulated Pyroptosis in Liver Diseases and Traditional Chinese Medicine Intervention: A Narrative Review.

Pyroptosis is a novel pro-inflammatory mode of programmed cell death that differs from ferroptosis, necrosis, and apoptosis in terms of its onset and regulatory mechanisms. Pyroptosis is dependent on cysteine aspartate protein hydrolase (caspase)-mediated activation of GSDMD, NLRP3, and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, interleukin-1 (IL-1β), and interleukin-18 (IL-18), ultimately leading to cell death. Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a type of RNA that does not encode proteins in gene transcription but plays an important regulatory role in other post-transcriptional links. NcRNA mediates p
