Additional neoplasms and HCV infection in low-grade lymphoma of MALT type.

Several chronic inflammatory conditions and genetic alterations are likely to be involved in the pathogenesis of low-grade lymphoma of MALT type. In a well-characterized series of 27 patients with low-grade lymphoma of MALT type, we studied: (1) the incidence of other neoplasms, which might be indicative of genetic instability, apparently a characteristic of this disease; (2) the prevalence of serologic and molecular markers of HCV infection, which has been found in association with other lymphoproliferative disorders. Three patients had one or more additional cancers; a total of eight tumours

GNAS is frequently mutated in both low-grade and high-grade disseminated appendiceal mucinous neoplasms but does not affect survival.

We analyzed a series of 55 disseminated appendiceal mucinous neoplasms treated at our institution for GNAS and KRAS mutations in an attempt to correlate mutation status with clinicopathological findings and patient survival. GNAS mutations (p.R201H, c.602G>A and p.R201C, and c.602C>T) were identified in 17 (31%) of 55 of disseminated mucinous neoplasms and were found in 8 (35%) of 23 low-grade mucinous neoplasms, 7 (37%) of 19 high-grade mucinous adenocarcinomas lacking a signet ring cell component, and 2 (15%) of 13 high-grade mucinous adenocarcinomas with a signet ring cell component. Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm: A Case Highlighting Diagnostic and Management Considerations.

Appendiceal mucoceles (AMs) are rare pathological entities characterized by the accumulation of mucin within the appendiceal lumen. They may arise from either non-neoplastic or neoplastic processes, including low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs). Due to their variable clinical presentation and often incidental discovery, diagnosis can be challenging. We report the case of a 29-year-old female who presented with a 3-month history of constipation and intermittent abdominal pain. Physical examination revealed mild right lower quadrant tenderness without signs of peritonitis. Laborator

Association between tomoelastography and histological grade and clinical characteristics of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of a pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm (pNEN) is closely correlated with histological grade. While the role of tomoelastography in predicting tumor grades has been explored in various cancers, evidence regarding its association with the histological grade and clinical features of pNENs remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the association between tomoelastographic parameters and the histological grade and key clinical characteristics of pNENs. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 62 patients with pathologically confirmed pNENs, all of whom unde

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm in an uncomplicated Amyand's hernia: a case report.

Amyand's hernia, defined as the presence of the vermiform appendix within an inguinal hernia sac, is an uncommon surgical finding. The association with appendiceal neoplasms is exceedingly rare, particularly in the absence of inflammatory signs. We report the case of a 71-year-old male with a longstanding right inguinoscrotal hernia presenting with progressive discomfort. An open hernia repair revealed the cecum and a macroscopically non-inflamed appendix within the hernia sac. Appendectomy was performed, followed by sutureless mesh hernioplasty. Histopathological examination unexpectedly demo

[A Review of Seven Cases of Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm at Our Institution].

INTRODUCTION: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm(LAMN)is often difficult to diagnose preoperatively. We investigated the clinical features and treatment outcomes of LAMN cases experienced at our institution. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 7 cases of LAMN that underwent surgical resection at our institution between October 2016 and December 2024. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 59 year(s range:38-87), with 4 males and 3 females. The most common initial symptom was abdominal pain, observed in 5 cases. Only 1 case was diagnosed as LAMN preoperatively. The surgical procedu

Connecting the dots: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms and serrated polyps in the appendix.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the relationship between low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs) and serrated polyps (SPs) of the appendix, both characterized by KRAS mutations and overlapping morphologic features. METHODS: We analyzed 27 cases of LAMN and 24 cases of SP from archival records, reviewed pathology, and performed molecular analysis on select cases. Four cases initially diagnosed as LAMN were excluded for not meeting diagnostic criteria, and 1 SP case was reclassified as LAMN. RESULTS: Microscopic evaluation revealed serrated architecture in 8 (29.6%) of 27 LAMNs

Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm Causing Equivocal Appendicitis: A Case Report.

Appendicitis is one of the most common diagnoses that general surgeons encounter in practice. An exceedingly rare cause of this disease is neoplasm. We report the case of a 24-year-old female who presented with non-specific right lower quadrant abdominal pain and equivocal findings of appendicitis and pelvic congestion syndrome on CT imaging. After an extensive work-up, the patient underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy with an appendectomy. The appendix appeared grossly normal; however, on a pathologic review of the specimen, a low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) was found. This case i

[A Case of Low Grade Dysplastic Intracystic Papillary Neoplasm Occurred in Young Woman].

The patient is a 41-year-old woman. She had been regularly visiting our hospital for follow-up of primary biliary cirrhosis and gallbladder polyps, but was referred to the Department of Surgery for surgery because the polyps tended to enlarge in size. Abdominal CT showed a 10 mm-sized polyp with early contrast in the body of the gallbladder, and T2-weighted abdominal MRI showed a signal defect in the gallbladder lumen consistent with a polyp, but a qualitative diagnosis was difficult. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The macroscopic findings o

Unusual coexistence of low-grade mucinous cystic neoplasm and idiopathic granulomatous hepatitis.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs) of the liver are rare precancerous lesions, accounting for less than 5 % of all hepatic cysts. The coexistence of MCNs with idiopathic granulomatous hepatitis is exceedingly uncommon and lacks documentation in the existing literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 43-year-old Tunisian woman with no significant medical history presented with persistent right hypochondrium pain. Clinical examination revealed a palpable mass in the right hypochondrium. Laboratory tests indicated elevated liver enzymes and cholestasis. Imaging studies identifie

Thoracic low grade glial neoplasm with concurrent H3 K27M and PTPN11 mutations.

We present the case of a 41-year-old man who developed worsening mid-thoracic back pain and imaging revealed a well-circumscribed intramedullary tumor in the thoracic spinal cord. Subtotal resection was performed, and histopathological analysis showed a cytologically bland, minimally proliferative glial neoplasm. Sequencing revealed H3 K27M and an activating PTPN11 mutation. Serial imaging revealed slow tumor regrowth over a three year period which prompted a second resection. The recurrent tumor displayed a similar low grade-appearing histology and harbored the same H3 K27M and PTPN11 mutatio

[A Case of Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm for Which Laparoscopic Surgery Was Effective].

Abdominal ultrasonography during a regular medical examination showed that a 70-year-old man had an approximately 10 cm cystic tumor in the lower abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography showed that the appendix had swollen to a size of 130 mm×44 mm. As no other tests suggested malignancy, the patient's condition was diagnosed as a low-grade appendiceal mucinous tumor and he underwent laparoscopic ileocecal resection and lymph node D2 dissection. Laparoscopic surgery was completed without damaging the tumor. There has been no recurrence after the operation for 2 years now.

Low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm mimicking an ovarian cyst: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Appendiceal mucocele (AM) is a very rare neoplasm with an incidence of 0.2-0.3% of all appendectomy specimens. AM usually defined as an intraluminal dilation of the appendix in response to mucin accumulation. The preoperative diagnosis is difficult and can be misdiagnosed to any of the other differential diagnosis especially in female patients. If it is suspected, imaging modalities and colonoscopy can be helpful as a guide for the right surgical approach. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 41-year-old lady who found to have an appendicular tumor discovered incidentally on magnetic resonan

[Low grade glioma with MYBL1 alteration: Case report of an uncommon pediatric neoplasm].

Diffuse gliomas with MYB or MYBL1 alterations are rare tumours mostly affecting children or young adults with long-term epilepsy. This category of glioma includes two morphological subtypes. The angiocentric subtype is characterized by an angiocentric pattern of growth and a frequent MYB:QKI fusion. The isomorphic subtype corresponds to a highly differentiated astrocytic glioma with low cellularity, low proliferation and no specific microscopic features. The diagnosis is based on the imaging, demonstrating a supratentorial tumor, associated with the confirmation of a MYB or MYBL1 rearrangement

Low-grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm Presenting as Adnexal Mass: A Case Report.

An appendiceal mucocele is a dilatation of the appendix and it is the result of benign or malignant diseases, which cause the obstruction of the appendix and the consequent accumulation of mucus secretion. The preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to non-specific clinical manifestations of the disease. We present a case of an 83-year-old female patient with a history of breast cancer that was referred to our hospital for an evaluation of a right adnexal mass discovered during her yearly follow-up. The patient underwent an exploratory laparotomy with a provisional diagnosis of a right adnexal

Villous Tumor of the Urinary Bladder Resembling Low-grade Mucinous Neoplasm of the Appendix.

Mucinous neoplasms of the urinary tract are very rare. We present a 63-year-old-women who had a sessile papillary villous tumor in urinary bladder. Although transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) was performed, the villous tumor repetitively recurred and gradually spread to the entire surface of bladder lumen. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical examination showed that the lesion was very similar to low-grade mucinous neoplasm arising in appendix vermiformis. There are no reports on appendiceal metaplasia of urinary bladder mucosa. In this case, we describe this unprecedented

Low-grade Schwann cell neoplasms with leptomeningeal dissemination: clinicopathologic and autopsy findings.

Leptomeningeal dissemination of low-grade Schwann cell neoplasms is an exceptionally rare occurrence and has not been well documented in the literature. We encountered 2 cases of leptomeningeal dissemination of low-grade Schwann cell neoplasms. Patient 1 was a 63-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 and a progressive low-grade malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor developing from a diffuse/plexiform orbital neurofibroma that arose in childhood. The neoplasm demonstrated local and leptomeningeal dissemination intracranially leading to the patient's death. There was partial loss of H3K
