Intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm (ITPN) is a premalignant epithelial tumor of the pancreas. We report a case of ITPN detected incidentally during histopathology examination (HPE) from a specimen taken at the time of endosonography in a patient with pancreatitis. A 53-year-old man presented with severe recurrent epigastric pain, associated with episodic nonbilious vomiting, with a weight loss of about 7 Kg since 15 days. He underwent Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography which showed an ovoid soft tissue lesion in the Pancreatic duct (PD) reported as possible intraductal neoplasm. Pat

Prox1, a transcription factor important in the regulation and maintenance of the lymphatic endothelial phenotype, is consistently expressed in lymphangiomas and Kaposi sarcoma and has also been reported in Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma. However, information on its distribution in vascular tumors, such as angiosarcoma, is limited. In this study, we examined selected normal tissues and 314 vascular endothelial and 1086 nonvascular tumors to get an insight into the biology of these tumors and on potential diagnostic use of Prox1 as an immunohistochemical marker. In adult tissues, Prox1 was esse

The epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is an uncommon vascular neoplasm. Numerous sites of involvement are possible, but these tumors most commonly arise in the soft tissues, liver, and lung. We report a case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma presenting as a single lesion on the nasal portion of the maxilla. Histologically, the tumor within bone and skin exhibited cords and nests of plump, epithelioid-appearing cells exhibiting rudimentary vascular differentiation within a myxohyaline stroma. Immunohistochemical reactivities for factor VIII-related antigen, CD31, CD34, and vimentin were demons

This article reviews the anatomy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearance of the penis. The recommended technique for MRI of the penis is outlined, with discussion of the benefits and drawbacks to imaging the penis after artificial erection. Common penile pathologies are reviewed, with a summary of their clinical features, MRI appearance, and treatment. The ability to demonstrate the erectile bodies and vasculature helps to evaluate vascular pathologies such as priapism, Mondor disease, and cavernosal thrombosis. MRI is also a useful tool to assess for traumatic abnormalities of the pen

There is a broad spectrum of primary pelvic retroperitoneal masses in adults that demonstrate characteristic epidemiologic and histopathologic features and natural histories. These masses may be classified into five distinct subgroups using a pattern-based approach that takes anatomic distribution and certain imaging characteristics into account, allowing greater accuracy in their detection and characterization and helping to optimize patient management. The five groups are cystic (serous and mucinous epithelial neoplasms, pelvic lymphangioma, tailgut cyst, ancient schwannoma), vascular or hyp

Primary neoplasms of the heart are rare. Benign entities in adult populations include myxoma, fibroma, lipoma, hamartoma of mature myocytes, and vascular hamartoma. The most common pediatric cardiac neoplasm is the rhabdomyoma. We report a 22-year-old female with a primary left ventricle tumor composed of multiple mature mesenchymal tissues, including mature cardiac myocytes, smooth muscle, fibroblasts, fat, blood vessels including a hemangioma like area, and nerve fibers. The various elements were disorganized, but well differentiated, and showed little mitotic activity, which are features su

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT)-like follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare neoplasm referred to as the FDCS variant. Here we report a 66-year-old female patient suffering from hepatic IPT-like FDCS and summarize IPT-like FDCS reported in the literature. The patient presented with obvious abdominal pain without significant laboratory abnormalities and subsequently underwent surgical resection of a hepatic lesion. Postoperative pathological results demonstrated a vascular tissue-rich neoplasm (7.0-cm maximum diameter). The tumor cells expressed CD21 and CD35, and in situ hybridizatio

INTRODUCTION: The Jena Soft Tissue Tumor Reference Center is the major German pathology institute for consultation of malignant mesenchymal tumors. Here, we present the clinicopathological data on thoracic soft tissue tumors of a two-year period.
METHODS: The tumors were analyzed according to their localization, type (soft tissue tumor, other tumor type, non-neoplastic lesion) and biological behavior. The frequency of the defined soft tissue tumor entities were considered after categorizing the cases according to the WHO Classification of Tumors. Gender and age were also assessed.
RESULTS: I

Erythematous lesions of the oral mucosa are common and can reflect a variety of conditions, ranging from benign reactive or immunologically-mediated disorders to malignant disease. Together with vascular abnormalities, which can vary from reddish to bluish-purple in color, the differential diagnosis for erythematous oral mucosal change is quite diverse. This review focuses on salient clinical features and histopathologic findings of selected conditions which clinically present as red or vascular-like oral mucosal alterations, including oral vascular malformations and neoplasms, pyogenic granul

Ossification of the inner ear is the result of multifactorial pathogeneses, such as infection or malignant infiltration, and otosclerosis. Ossification of the inner ear spaces is a well documented sequela of suppurative labyrinthitis. In this study of human temporal bones, sections from 14 patients (28 temporal bones) were studied. In addition to the osseous tissue within the inner ear, findings included neoplasms, otosclerosis, otitis media, trauma, and Fabry's disease. We have attempted to correlate these conditions and their influence on the formation of osseous tissue within the spaces of

Mucormycosis (synonymous with phycomycosis and zygomycosis) is a devastating fungal infection which usually involves patients with diabetes mellitus, often complicated by ketoacidosis, and malignant neoplasms, commonly leukemia and lymphoma. Clinical manifestations include rhinocerebral, pulmonary, disseminated, isolated cerebral, gastrointestinal and cutaneous disease. Common to all forms of mucormycosis is vascular invasion with production of necrotic tissue. The diagnosis is achieved by demonstrating broad, non-septate hyphae with right-angle branching in a tissue biopsy specimen. Successfu

In the last 30 years, there has been a strong interest in vascular proliferations. Pyogenic granuloma was not only renamed lobular capillary hemangioma, but also the conceptual interpretation was also changed from an overgrowth of granulation tissue to a genuine hemangioma (or benign vascular neoplasm). We describe 19 cases of patients who presented clinically with a vascular lesion, characteristically a pyogenic granuloma or lobular hemangioma, where the histopathological findings led to the pathologic concern for a lymphoma of the skin. These benign lesions with a dense lymphoid infiltrate w

PURPOSE: Mesenchymal neoplasms composed of vascular, smooth muscle, and adipocytic components are uncommon in the nasal cavity. While angioleiomyoma (AL) is a smooth muscle tumor in the Head & Neck WHO classification, it is considered of pericytic origin in the Skin as well as Soft Tissue and Bone classifications. For nasal AL with an adipocytic component, the terms AL with adipocytic differentiation and angiomyolipoma (AML) have been applied, among others. AML is a type of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa), most often arising in the kidney, sometimes associated with the tuberous sc

The heterozygous p53 knockout mouse model was used to assess whether vascular tumors noted in a 2-year carcinogenicity study in CD-1 mice with carbaryl were induced through a genotoxic mechanism. This knockout mouse model was selected for carbaryl because of the high sensitivity of this model to genotoxic events and its low spontaneous incidence of tumors until 9-12 months of age. Carbaryl was administered continuously via the diet to groups of 20 male heterozygous p53 knockout mice at concentrations of 0, 10, 30, 100, 300, 1000 and 4000 ppm for 180 days. Histopathological examinations reveale

Bovine enzootic hematuria (BEH) is characterized by chronic hematuria and neoplasms in the urinary bladder. From 2013 to 2016, 64 bovine urinary bladders were collected at a slaughterhouse in Rosario de Lerma, Salta, Argentina. The animals came from endemic areas where the infestation of ferns (Pteridium spp., Pteris spp.) in pastures is high. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses were performed. A significant increase in bladder thickness of positive cases compared to negative controls was observed (BEH+:7.5 ± 2 vs. BEH-: 3.9 ± 0.8). Samples were classified according to the sever

Malignant dural neoplasms are not reliably distinguished from benign dural neoplasms with contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI enhancement in central nervous system (CNS) diseases imaged with ferumoxytol has been attributed to intracellular uptake in macrophages rather than vascular leakage. We compared imaging to histopathology and immunohistochemistry in meningiomas and dural metastases having ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI (FeMRI) and gadolinium-enhanced MRI (GdMRI) in order to correlate enhancement patterns to macrophage presence and vascular state. All patients having extraax

BACKGROUND: The reconstruction of defects resulting from the extirpation of head and neck neoplasms is performed by both otolaryngology and plastic surgery services, mostly dependent on the institution. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) provides a unique opportunity to examine a predefined set of variables with regard to free vascularized tissue transfers performed by each service.
METHODS: Following institutional review board approval, the NSQIP Participant Use Files for 2005 to 2011 were examined for all Current Procedural Terminology cod

BACKGROUND: Anastomosing hemangioma (AH) is a rare benign vascular neoplasm recognized as a distinct entity in the 2020 WHO classification of soft tissue and bone tumors. Although primarily described in soft tissue and visceral organs, intraosseous AH is exceedingly rare and, to the authors' knowledge, primary sacral involvement has not been previously reported.
OBSERVATIONS: A 79-year-old woman presented with progressive sacral pain. MRI revealed a large, T2-hyperintense, heterogeneously enhancing sacral mass (60.2 × 48.5 × 39.8 mm) with osteolytic changes and focal cortical thinning, initia

AIMS: Scarce literature exists regarding the spectrum of vascular neoplasms of the distal female genital tract. Herein, we describe the clinicopathologic features of a cohort of intermediate to malignant endothelial neoplasms of the vulva and vagina.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Specimens were identified retrospectively from in-house and consultation files at our institution. Clinicopathologic data was obtained from review of the chart and available histologic material. Nineteen cases were identified in total. Kaposi sarcoma (n = 2) was of the enigmatic 'sporadic' form in elderly non-HIV females. Kap

Canine melanocytic neoplasms have a highly variable biological behavior ranging from benign cutaneous melanocytomas to malignant oral melanomas that readily metastasize to lymph nodes and internal organs. This review focuses on the diagnosis and prognosis of canine melanocytic neoplasms. While pigmented melanocytic neoplasms can be diagnosed with fine-needle aspirates, an accurate prognosis requires surgical biopsy. However, differentiating amelanotic spindloid melanomas from soft tissue sarcomas is challenging and often requires immunohistochemical labeling with a diagnostic cocktail that con
