Exploring Sociodemographic, Parental, and Temporal Correlates of Mental Health Disorders in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy: A Clinic-Based Investigation.

BACKGROUND: Mental health disorders in children and adolescents are common and often persist into adulthood. Understanding the influence of sociodemographic, parental, and temporal factors is essential for early detection and targeted prevention. This study aimed to identify such factors among patients of a child and adolescent psychotherapeutic clinic. METHODOLOGY: Data from a child and adolescent psychotherapeutic clinic from 2011 to 2023, from 2023 cases, were analyzed retrospectively. Multivariable logistic regression was applied to investigate the independent associations of sociodemogra

Family (genetic) studies in neurotic depression.

Neurotic depression may be defined as a depression that occurs in the context of a long standing history of personality difficulties or neurotic symptoms. Two types of conditions fit this definition: (1) depressions secondary to personality disorder, neuroses or substance abuse; and (2) primary depressions with a family history of alcoholism. Depressions so defined show familial relationships with secondary depression, anxiety disorders, alcoholism, and depressions with personality disorders. The data suggest that these cluster in the same family and are related to the definition of neurotic d

Somatic neurosis in middle-aged Hindu women.

Somatization in neurotic disorders was noted as a significant complication in their classification. Besides being an aspect of other neurotic disorders somatization becomes primary and chronic neurotic problem running true to type for several years in some patients. Recent evidence indicated that the syndrome "Somatic Neurosis" occurs not only in Muslim women but in middled-aged women of other communities too. A group of 20 middle-aged women with somatic neurosis were compared with an equal number of age-matched Neurotic Depressive patients. The former had significantly lower scores on Hamilto

[Patient catamnesis in neuroses with systemic somatic disorders].

Using the clinico-catamnestic method (supplemented with some laboratory examinations) the author observed 126 patients with neuroses, in the clinical picture of which systemic disorders were prevalent. It was found that among patients with the neuroses accompanied with vegetative dystonia and cardiac disturbances those suffering from neurasthenia were predominant, while among patients with neurotic respiratory and gastrointestinal disturbances most were suffering from hysteria. In the latter patients a great variability of the neurotic syndromes was noted. Pathogenetic psychotherapy of that pa

[Mode of onset and two years outcome of a broad spectrum of affective disorders].

In recent years emphasis has tended to be placed on assessing and diagnosing low-grade affective disorders. If mild affective symptoms are also considered a broad spectrum of affective disorders, this spectrum can be seen, not only in the manifestation of major symptoms of such illnesses as manic-depressive illness, but also in symptoms of various mental disorders. The present study was undertaken to analyze the clinical features of a broad spectrum of affective disorders in a prospective follow-up study. Ninety mentally ill patients who visited our outpatient clinic were followed for 2 years,

Mental status in patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic prostatitis is a widespread urological disease with a lengthy course and a propensity to frequent recurrences. Adequate response to anti-inflammatory therapy is lacking in a high percentage of patients, which causes them to seek medical advice from different doctors. Thus, the physicians are challenged to look for other reasons causing the pathological symptoms. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have reviewed the patients with treatment-resistant chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) from the perspective of psychosomatic medicine. For the evaluation of primary mental status and tre

The burden of care of schizophrenia in Malay families.

Deinstitutionalization has shifted much of the burden of care of chronic schizophrenia from mental institutions to the family. The aim of this study is to asses the prevalence of mental disorders among 210 primary carers of Malay schizophrenic patients, explored the burden and hardship experienced by them. This is a two-stage psychiatric screening procedure. All the cases suspected from initial screening with WHO Self-Reporting Questionnaires (SRQ-20) were called for clinical interview. Patients' behavioural problems and the burden of relatives were assessed by the Social Behaviour Schedule an

The study included 60 patients aged 18-65 years with anxious-phobic disorder (APD)--agoraphobia with and without panic disorders. Diagnosis of the disease was performed according to ICD-10. It was established that dynamics and outcome of APD with stable agoraphobia depend on some comorbid psychic disorders (neurotic, nonpsychotic affective, personality disorders, slow-progredient schizophrenia). Influence of such disorders on APD depends on level of realization of the comorbid correlations: symptomatic (nondelirious hypochondria) and intersyndromal ones (affective and personal disorders as wel

Stroke and Risk of Mental Disorders Compared With Matched General Population and Myocardial Infarction Comparators.

BACKGROUND: Accurate estimates of risks of poststroke outcomes from large population-based studies can provide a basis for public health policy decisions. We examined the absolute and relative risks of a spectrum of incident mental disorders following ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage. METHODS: During 2004 to 2018, we used Danish registries to identify patients (≥18 years and with no hospital history of mental disorders), with a first-time ischemic stroke (n=76 767) or intracerebral hemorrhage (n=9344), as well as age-,sex-, and calendar year-matched general population (n=464 840)

[Results of psychological tests in children with long-term follow-up for Reye's syndrome].

Within a 10-year period the authors investigated the incidence of mental disorders in a group of 65 children with a history of Reye's syndrome. From the investigation ensues that the majority of mental disorders is temporary, followed by complete recovery. Most frequently neurotic disorders were observed, disorders of motor coordination, impaired attention. These disorders persisted longest during the follow-up of patients who had suffered previously from the most severe forms of Reye's syndrome. From the total number of 65 children all mental disorders disappeared in 52.3%; 43% of the childre

Views of practicing psychiatrists on the treatment of anxiety and somatoform disorders.

Psychiatrists in Australia were asked to recommend treatments for several anxiety and somatoform disorders. In previous surveys they had agreed about the preferred treatments for schizophrenia and major affective disorder but not about treatments for "neurotic depression" or agoraphobia. In the present survey, no treatment was regarded as critical by a majority of psychiatrists for any of the five anxiety and somatoform disorders studied. The authors conclude that because neurotic disorders form an important part of the workload of psychiatrists, consensus procedures should be used to develop

The significance of the neurotic symptoms of bulimia nervosa.

The significance of the neurotic symptoms of bulimia nervosa is a subject of current debate. In the present paper, data are reported on changes in these symptoms during the course of psychological treatment directed at the eating disorder itself. A significant association was found between outcome in terms of eating habits and the severity of neurotic symptoms after treatment. There was no association between outcome and the pre-treatment level of neurotic symptoms. These findings suggest that the neurotic symptoms are likely to constitute a secondary psychological reaction.

A MODEL FOR INTEGRATING ACTUAL NEUROTIC OR UNREPRESENTED STATES AND SYMBOLIZED ASPECTS OF INTRAPSYCHIC CONFLICT.

In psychoanalytic theory, the importance of actual neuroses-considered to be devoid of psychic content-diminished as Freud and subsequent analysts focused on unconscious intrapsychic conflict. This paper explores the relationship between actual neurotic and unrepresented states, which are believed to be best addressed through attention to countertransference, intersubjectivity, and enactments rather than interpretation of intrapsychic conflict. Models suggesting how actual neurotic states and symbolized intrapsychic conflict may interact with each other and environmental stressors are describe

Primary psychiatric conditions: dermatitis artefacta, trichotillomania and neurotic excoriations.

Primary psychiatric conditions encountered in dermatology include dermatitis artefacta, trichotillomania (TTM) and neurotic excoriations. For these disorders, the primary pathologic condition involves the psyche; therefore, any cutaneous findings are self-induced. Herein, we review common primary psychiatric conditions in dermatology - dermatitis artefacta, neurotic excoriations and TTM - and examine their epidemiology, clinical presentation, differential diagnosis and treatment strategies. For all primary psychiatric disorders, the most effective underlying strategy is to first establish a st
