Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) is an essential but often unrecognized cause of intracranial haemorrhage. While there are no specific causes of the syndrome, associations with many clinical conditions and drugs have been observed, and calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are often used to relieve the symptoms. This is a case of RCVS that was triggered by the sudden withdrawal of nifedipine, a CCB.

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth is frequently associated with three particular drugs: phenytoin, cyclosporin, and nifedipine. As gingival enlargement develops, it affects the normal oral hygiene practice and may interfere with masticatory functions. The awareness in the medical community about this possible side effect of nifedipine is less when compared to the effects of phenytoin and cyclosporin. Ten spinal-cord-injured males who exhibited autonomic dysreflexia during electroejaculation were given sublingual calcium channel blocker nifedipine pretreatment to prevent this complication. Nifedipine was successful in decreasing peak systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressures during the procedure. The use of nifedipine resulted in fewer aborted trials and allowed higher energy delivery during the procedure.
