Internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder - a literature review.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a condition in which the key symptoms are obsessive thoughts and motor compulsions. The prevalence of obsessive-compulsive disorder is about 2-3%. The issue of the effectiveness of internet-based therapeutic interventions based on cognitivebehavioral therapy (iCBT) for people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has not been thoroughly investigated in Poland yet. The aim of this article is to present the results of existing studies on sample iCBT programs for people with OCD and to analyze their effectiveness. In addition to reviewing the co

Rhesus monkeys exhibiting spontaneous ritualistic behaviors resembling obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and debilitating psychiatric disorder that affects ∼2%-3% of the population globally. Studying spontaneous OCD-like behaviors in non-human primates may improve our understanding of the disorder. In large rhesus monkey colonies, we found 10 monkeys spontaneously exhibiting persistent sequential motor behaviors (SMBs) in individual-specific sequences that were repetitive, time-consuming and stable over prolonged periods. Genetic analysis revealed severely damaging mutations in genes associated with OCD risk in humans. Brain imaging showed that mon

[Difficulties in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder with cognitive-behavioral therapy - a case report].

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by the occurrence of recurrent obsessive thoughts and / or compulsive actions that cause discomfort, suffering and disrupt the functioning of the patient. According to the ICD-10 classification, a minimum two-week duration of the disorder is required, and the DSM-5 classification specifies that symptoms should occur for at least one hour a day. The most common symptoms can be divided into four groups: symmetry/ rituals, gathering/collecting, washing/cleaning, controlling. Functional neurovascular studies indicate changes in the cortico-stria

Reward-related attentional capture is associated with severity of addictive and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.

A cue that signals reward can capture attention and elicit approach behaviors in people and animals. The current study examined whether attentional capture by reward-related cues is associated with severity of addiction-related and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. Participants were recruited via Mechanical Turk and included 143 adults (Mage = 34 years, SD = 8.5; 43% female) who had endorsed at least 1 addiction-related or obsessive-compulsive behavior in the past month. All assessment components were delivered via the Internet and included questionnaires to assess severity of compulsivity-relat

D-cycloserine augmentation in behavioral therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the overall effect of D-cycloserine (DCS) augmentation on exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). METHODS: Clinical studies on the effect of DCS augmentation on ERP therapy for OCD compared to placebo were included for meta analysis. The primary outcome was the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS). Meta-analyses were performed with a random-effect model or a fixed-effect model using the Cochrane Review Manager (RevMan, version 5.2) to calculate the odds ratio and the mean difference, with their corresponding 95%

Parent Management Training Augmentation to Address Coercive and Disruptive Behavior in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Coercive and disruptive behaviors commonly interfere with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) trials among youths with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Although evidence supports parent management training (PMT) for reducing disruptive behavior, no group-based PMT interventions exist for OCD-related disruptive behaviors. We studied feasibility and effectiveness of group-based adjunctive PMT among non-randomized, OCD-affected families receiving family-based group CBT. Linear mixed models estimated treatment effects across OCD-related and parenting outcomes at post-treatment and 1-month follo

Impaired midfrontal‑motor theta phase synchronization characterizes maladaptive motivational behavior in people with obsessive‑compulsive disorder.

Obsessive‑compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by an insight‑action dissociation, in which people with OCD recognize that their behavior is irrational but still struggle to inhibit habitual responses. This dissociation may be related to abnormally strong motivational biases, reflected in excessive tendencies to approach reward and avoid punishment. We employed a motivational Go/NoGo learning task, combined with computational modeling and electroencephalography (EEG), to investigate how 36 people with OCD and 37 healthy controls (HC) regulate maladaptive biases during motivated action. Modeling of Compulsive Behavior Types of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Patients by Using the Data Mining Method.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Data mining is a method that is used to find data that are precise, previously uncertain, and logical values from a comprehensive set of information. Data mining is used as a tool for determining the accuracy of classifications of data obtained in the field of bioinformatics by using different algorithm approaches. In this study, the data mining method was used to classify the accuracy of different algorithms and predict the types of compulsive behavior of patients with obsessive compulsive disorder. Data collected from a total of 164 people, 70 males and 94 females, were analyzed. The age ran

Long-term outcomes of therapist-guided Internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is the recommended first-line intervention for children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but is not broadly accessible. Internet-delivered CBT (ICBT) with minimal therapist support is efficacious and cost-effective, at least in the short term. Whether the therapeutic gains of ICBT for OCD are sustained in the long run is unknown. In this study, 61 adolescents with OCD who participated in a randomized trial of ICBT were followed-up 3 and 12 months after treatment. The proportion of treatment responders and remitters remained stable from

Self-guided internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) for obsessive-compulsive symptoms: A randomized controlled trial.

Internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been demonstrated to be efficacious across multiple clinical trials. However, most of these interventions include clinician support, and many individuals with OCD prefer to manage their own symptoms. Self-guided ICBT overcomes this problem, but to date the efficacy of self-guided interventions has only been studied in uncontrolled trials. The present study aims to examine the efficacy and acceptability of ICBT for OCD symptoms when delivered in a self-guided format using a randomized controlled tri

Effects of glutamate-related drugs on anxiety and compulsive behavior in rats with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Objective: Altered glutamatergic neurotransmission has been implicated in the pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We examined the effects and potential mechanism of glutamate-related drugs on compulsive behavior in quinpirole (QNP)-sensitized rats, to deepen our understanding of the link between OCD and glutamate.Method: This study systematically compared the effects of the partial NMDA agonist D-Cycloserine and the NMDA antagonist NVP-AAMO77, Ro25-6981 on compulsive behavior using the elevated zero maze, open field, and marble burying tests in QNP-induced OCD model. Results: T

Tics moderate treatment outcome with sertraline but not cognitive-behavior therapy in pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder.

BACKGROUND: The presence of a comorbid tic disorder may predict a poorer outcome in the acute treatment of pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). METHODS: Using data from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded Pediatric OCD Treatment Study (POTS) that compared cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), medical management with sertraline (SER), and the combination of CBT and SER (COMB), to pill placebo (PBO) in children and adolescents with OCD, we asked whether the presence of a comorbid tic disorder influenced symptom reduction on the Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive

Premorbid characteristics of the SAPAP3 mouse model of obsessive-compulsive disorder: behavior, neuroplasticity, and psilocybin treatment.

BACKGROUND: SAPAP3-knockout (SAPAP3-KO) mice develop excessive self-grooming behavior at 4-6 months of age, serving as a model for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Given that anxiety often precedes OCD diagnosis in humans, this study investigated whether juvenile SAPAP3-KO mice exhibit anxiety-like behaviors before developing the self-grooming phenotype, and whether such behaviors respond to psilocybin (PSIL) treatment. The study also examined 4 key neuroplasticity-related synaptic proteins-GAP43, PSD95, synaptophysin, and SV2A-as SAPAP3 is a postsynaptic scaffold protein that interacts wi

The Impact of Family Functioning on Help-Seeking Behavior and Symptom Severity in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Poor family functioning is associated with higher symptom severity in pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and delayed help-seeking behavior in other forms of psychopathology. However, little is known about the impact of family functioning on help-seeking behavior and symptom severity in adults with OCD. The present study investigated the association between family functioning and both treatment delay and symptom severity in adults with obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Participants were 194 adults who self-identified as having OCD and completed an internet survey, including measures ass

Neural circuits in goal-directed and habitual behavior: Implications for circuit dysfunction in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Goal-directed and habitual actions are essential for normal functioning in everyday life. Goal-directed behaviors are actions that are executed to achieve specific goals. With repetition, such as a daily routine, these goal-directed actions become automatized and habitual. However, these useful behaviors can become aberrant, manifesting as key symptoms in several psychiatric disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). A comprehensive understanding of the neural circuits underlying both aberrant and non-pathological goal-directed and habitual behaviors can lead to improved treatme

Editorial Perspective: Exposures in cognitive behavior therapy for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder: addressing common clinician concerns.

Professional organizations and expert consensus recommend the use of exposure-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but a sizable proportion of clinicians possess hesitancy regarding the use of exposures in treatment. Most notably, this hesitancy relates to concerns about negative patient and parent reactions to exposures. Accordingly, we examine three commonly reported clinician concerns regarding negative patient/parent reactions (e.g. treatment attrition, therapeutic relationship, and treatment satisfaction) among youths receiving e

Auto-Reactive Th17-Cells Trigger Obsessive-Compulsive-Disorder Like Behavior in Mice With Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis.

Th17-lymphocytes are well known for their deleterious role in autoimmunity. But does the notoriety of this repertoire extend beyond autoimmunity? In the present study we employed experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis as model system to study the role auto-reactive Th17 cells in neuropsychiatric disorders. The mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis exhibited exaggerated grooming activity. The observed behavioral anomaly resembled obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) upon analysis of grooming microstructure, induced grooming, marble burying and nestlet shredding. The observed OCD
