BACKGROUND: Maternal mortality remains a critical public health concern in the U.S., with rising rates in recent years. Obstetric hemorrhage and hypertension in pregnancy are leading causes of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity. Maternal safety bundles, developed by the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health, provide guidelines to improve maternal health outcomes. This study examined the implementation of obstetric hemorrhage and severe hypertension safety bundles in Arkansas hospitals, identifying factors associated with successful adoption.

Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a prevalent yet under-recognised condition among obstetric women, often presenting as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Obstetric hemorrhage remains the leading cause of maternal death in the United States, and 54% to 93% of these deaths may have been preventable. Leaders must honor the lives of women who die from obstetric hemorrhage by reviewing their deaths and sharing lessons learned. Shortening the current 3 to 7 year data gap will allow for timely initiation of quality improvement efforts. Designated leaders and researchers from the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses are ideally positioned to lead these quality initiatives.

Psychological drawbacks of intensive obstetrics on the one hand and the results from psychology in the perinatal period on the other hand demand a new mental hygiene in the delivery room and on maternity wards. The "family-oriented obstetrics" met these problems best. Interviews were made with 650 mothers, just after delivery to find on the attitude for "family-oriented obstetrics". Presence of husband in the delivery room is wanted from 47,4% of the married couple. 98,15% from the mothers wanted nursing and 83,69% rooming-in.

Although preterm labor and birth continues to plague us as an unsolved mystery in maternal/child health, much has actually been learned over the past few decades. Most reviews of the preterm labor literature examine the research in an interdisciplinary manner; this article instead looks at the active role that nurses have taken in the research concerning preterm labor and birth.
