Clinical comparison study between a newly developed optical-based fractional flow reserve device and the conventional fractional flow reserve device.

BACKGROUND: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurement is the gold standard for identifying the functional severity of coronary artery disease. Although we can use newly developed pressure wires with optical fibers are now available, their safety and accuracy for FFR measurement are not clear. Therefore, we planned a clinical comparison study between pressure wires with optical fibers and the conventional FFR device. METHODS: We prospectively enrolled 51 patients (51 lesions) with intermediate coronary artery stenosis. For these lesions, FFR measurements with pressure wires with optical fibers

A Bioinspired Optic-Neural Device with Neuromorphic Spatiotemporal Visual Perception for Dynamic Object Recognition.

Neuromorphic vision with integrated sensing, memorizing, and computing is considered a potential way to break through the high latency and storage bottlenecks of existing machine vision. However, simulating the human vision system with a single device to achieve spatiotemporal visual information perception remains a challenge. Hence, we demonstrated a bioinspired optic-neural device that achieves dynamic object recognition by simultaneously implementing encoding and sensing functions on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). This device exhibits excellent optical synaptic plasticity originating from cha

A Fiber-Optic Non-Invasive Swallowing Assessment Device Based on a Wearable Pressure Sensor.

We developed a wearable swallowing assessment device using a hetero-core fiber-optic pressure sensor for the detection of laryngeal movement during swallowing. The proposed pressure sensor (comfortably attached to the skin of the neck) demonstrated a high sensitivity of 0.592 dB/kPa and a linearity of R2 = 0.995 within a 14 kPa pressure band, which is a suitable pressure for the detection of laryngeal movement. In addition, since the fabricated hetero-core fiber-optic pressure sensor maintains appreciable sensitivity over the surface of the sensor, the proposed wearable swallowing assessment d

Phosphorus-Doped Multilayer In6Se7: The Study of Structural, Electrical, and Optical Properties for Junction Device.

This work investigates the characteristic of layered In6Se7 with varying phosphorus (P) dopant concentrations (In6Se7:P) from P = 0, 0.5, 1, to P = 5%. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses indicate that the structure and morphology of the In6Se7:P series compounds remain unchanged, exhibiting a monoclinic structure. Room-temperature micro-Raman (μRaman) result of all the compositions of layered In6Se7:P reveals two dominant peaks at 101 ± 3 cm-1 (i.e., In-In bonding mode) and 201 ± 3 cm-1 (i.e., Se-Se bonding mode) for each P composition in In6Se7. Measurement of optical reflection and temperature changes after blood occlusion using a wearable device.

Early detection of compromised circulation is essential for postoperative monitoring of free flap. Hourly clinical check-ups such as inspection and palpation still result in a delay in detection. Conversely, optical reflection and temperature measurement are useful alternatives for detecting blood circulation. However, conventional methods that verify ischemia and congestion within a short period have not been reported. In this study, we measured short-term changes in optical reflection and temperature in a rat flap using a wearable flexible sensor probe previously developed in our laboratory.

A Novel Objective Approach to the External Measurement of Pectus Excavatum Severity by Means of an Optical Device.

BACKGROUND: Current approaches to quantifying the severity of pectus excavatum require internal measurements based on cross-sectional imaging. The aim of this study is to exploit a novel index evaluated on the external surface of the chest with a three-dimensional (3D) optical scanner. METHODS: Fifty-one children (41 male, 10 female) between 2 and 17 years of age were evaluated with a 3D optical scanner. Pectus excavatum severity was calculated by using an ad hoc instant 3D scanner and defining an automatic procedure to generate an optical 3D correction index (CI3D). For the latter, an ideal

[Devic's optic neuromyelitis. Follow-up of the evolution of the medullary lesions using magnetic resonance].

The nosology of Devic's optic neuromyelitis (NMOD) is controversial. Although classically considered to be a variety of multiple sclerosis, there are a number of differentiating characteristics which would permit classification as a separate condition. The evolution of changes in the medulla, as shown by magnetic resonance, is described in a patient with recurrent episodes of myelitis and optic neuritis. In successive exacerbations widening of the medulla was seen, with the appearance of areas of cavitation which later gave rise to atrophy of the medulla. During an 18 year follow-up period the

A review on innovative optical devices for the diagnosis of human soil-transmitted helminthiasis and schistosomiasis: from research and development to commercialization.

Diagnosis of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) and schistosome infections relies largely on conventional microscopy which has limited sensitivity, requires highly trained personnel and is error-prone. Rapid advances in miniaturization of optical systems, sensors and processors have enhanced research and development of digital and automated microscopes suitable for the detection of these diseases in resource-limited settings. While some studies have reported proof-of-principle results, others have evaluated the performance of working prototypes in field settings. The extensive commercialization o
