A girl, aged 11 years 4 months, with a skeletal Class II pattern and a severe overjet (10 mm) was treated with a Twin-block appliance. After 9 months of appliance therapy, the skeletal Class II was overcorrected. After 26 months of retention, when the occlusion was stable and the growth rate was diminishing, fixed orthodontic appliances using temporary skeletal anchorage devices were initiated. The total active treatment time with fixed orthodontic appliances was 30 months. Posttreatment records after 18 months demonstrated excellent stability: a functional occlusion and a pleasing facial bala

This article describes one adult bilateral full-step class II case with severe initial upper incisors retroclination successfully treated by a completely invisible lingual appliance. A non-extraction treatment to compensate for the severe sagittal discrepancy was made possible following the excellent patient cooperation with intermaxillary elastics, combined with upper arch en-masse effective distalization with miniscrews. The application of an auxiliary torque spring was essential to increase upper incisors torque during class II mechanics. This case report shows the possibility of obtaining

This case report describes the successful orthodontic treatment of a 22-year-old female patient affected by Class II malocclusion, maxillary skeletal transverse deficiency, ectopic maxillary left lateral incisor, and mild mandibular crowding. Due to her adult skeletal age, a bone-borne appliance was applied in order to obtain both purely skeletal rapid maxillary expansion and bilateral molar distalization. After accurate matching between the pretreatment cone-beam computed tomography scan and digital models, 4 self-drilling miniscrews were inserted palatally using a computer-aided design and c

Severe unilateral crossbite was diagnosed in a five-year and five-month Taiwanese girl. Clinical examination presented left posterior and anterior crossbites resulting in significant dental and facial midline deviations. Early intervention was recommended in this case for severe functional shift which might induce facial asymmetry. The unilateral crossbite was successfully treated using modified palatal arch with finger springs. The patient has shown stable occlusion and no midline deviation after six years of follow-up.

Nickel is the most common contact allergen. Nickel-containing orthodontic appliances are implicated in allergic reactions, which represent a type IV delayed hypersensitivity immune response. Nickel hypersensitivity is diagnosed through the patient's history, clinical findings, and biocompatibility testing (patch skin tests). While testing the level of nickel in mucosa and blood does not have diagnostic value, the in vitro cell proliferation assays could be an important diagnostic tool. Allergic hypersensitivity reactions may involve intra- and extraoral clinical signs, comprising diffuse eryth

BACKGROUND: Deep bite is a common malocclusion characterized by reclining upper front teeth in adolescents and adults. Few studies using Clear Aligners (CA) have successfully corrected severe deep bites. The therapeutic failure was caused by the natural biting force of the patients. Align Technology® (Santa Clara, CA) introduced a specific protocol for Deep Bite correction based on SmartForce Aligner Activation. Specific regions of CA are designed to realize strategic contact areas between CA and the dental element to maximize the predictability of treatment. This study aims to investigate the
