Healthy adult volunteers were inoculated intranasally with human parvovirus obtained from an asymptomatic blood donor. One week after inoculation, intense viremia was observed in seronegative volunteers, accompanied by a mild illness with pyrexia, malaise, myalgia, itching, and excretion of virus from the respiratory tract. In the following week hematologic studies revealed reticulocytopenia with an associated slight drop in hemoglobin concentration, lymphopenia, neutropenia, and a drop in platelet counts. At 17-18 days after inoculation a second-phase illness with rash and arthralgia lasting

Porcine bocaviruses (PoBoVs) are small linear ssDNA viruses belonging to the genus bocavirus in the family Parvoviridae. The genome encodes four proteins-the non-structural protein 1 (NS1), the NP1 protein (unknown function) and the two structural proteins VP1 and VP2. In recent years, a number of different highly divergent PoBoV species have been discovered. PoBoVs have been shown to be present in pig populations in Europe, Asia and in the United States of America. In this study, we present the first data of the presence of PoBoV in Africa, specifically in Uganda. A PCR targeting a PoBoV spec

Human bocaparvoviruses (HBoVs) belong to the Parvoviridae family, being currently classified into four species (HBoV1-4). These viruses have been found in association with respiratory and gastroenteric symptoms, as well as in asymptomatic individuals. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of HBoVs in infants under 5 months old admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) during the COVID-19 pandemic (between March 2021 and March 2022). Clinical samples (nasopharyngeal swab, serum, stool, and urine) were screened by qPCR TaqMan. The HBoV was detected in samples of 31.6% (12/38) of

Malabsorption syndrome (MAS) is an economically important disease of young, commercially reared broilers, characterized by growth retardation, defective feather development and diarrheic faeces. Several viruses have been tentatively associated to such syndrome. Here, in order to examine potential associations between enteric viruses and MAS, the faecal viromes of 70 stool samples collected from diseased (n = 35) and healthy (n = 35) chickens from seven flocks were characterized and compared. Following high-throughput sequencing, a total of 8,347,319 paired end reads, with an average of 231 nt,

BACKGROUND: Parvovirus B19 is a single-stranded DNA virus belonging to the family Parvoviridae, genus Erythrovirus. PVB19 infection is most common in the pediatric population, manifesting as erythema infectiosum. In patients with hemoglobinopathy, PVB19 infection is known to cause aplastic anemia. PVB19 infection rarely affects the nervous system - reported manifestations include seizures, encephalitis and meningoencephalitis. Less common presentations include stroke, cerebellar ataxia, optic neuritis, brachial plexitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome.

The parvovirus B 19 is part of the family of the parvoviridae and shows a distinctive tropism for erythropoid precursor cells. The virus causes in children the erythema infectiosum (German measles). Meanwhile, parvovirus B 19 infections can be associated with a wide spectrum of hematological and non-hematological complications (e.g. liver failure, hepatitis, aplastic crises primarily in association with chronic hemolytic anaemias, chronic arthritis, arthralgia/arthritis, transient/persistent anaemias, vasculitis, glomerulonephritis). Intrauterine infections can lead to specific or permanent or

Erythrovirus B19 has been associated with an expanding range of clinical disorders since its identification as the etiological agent of erythema infectiosum, or fifth disease of childhood: acute arthropathy, dermatologic manifestations, chronic anemia in immunocompromised patients, and transient aplastic crisis in individuals with underlying chronic hemolytic disorders. Furthermore, exposure to and infection by B19 virus can lead to serious complications during pregnancy, which may result in fetal anemia, spontaneous abortion, and hydrops fetalis. Consequently, the B19 immune status of pregnan

Following its identification by Yvonne Cossart in 1975, human Parvovirus B19 has been recognized as the causative agent of a wide range of diseases. In childhood, the most common disease is a typical exanthema called "fifth disease". In adults, viral infection may be responsible for fetal loss and for aplastic anaemia in immuno-compromised patients. Because persistent viral infection may induce an autoimmune response, Parvovirus B19 is emerging as an environmental factor linked to the pathogenesis of autoimmunity. As a result of its expanding disease spectrum, Parvovirus B19 is the subject of

Parvovirus-B19 (PV-B19) is a member of Parvoviridae, which is one of the smallest DNA viruses. PV-B19-associated diseases usually serve as a good representation of the balance of virus, host response and the immune system. The diseases manifested with PV-B19 are erythema infectiosum, which is common in children, hydrops fetalis, transient pure red cell aplasia in patients with chronic hemolytic anemia, arthralgia - mostly observed in women, and chronic pure red cell aplasia in immunocompromised individuals. Cytopenia (bicytopenia, monocytopenia or pancytopenia) may also accompany the diseases

Discovered by chance in 1974, the human serum parvovirus B19 is at present the only recognized, autonomous, pathogenic human parvovirus. For some years following its discovery, B19 was not associated with any defined clinical syndrome; although a high titre viraemia was often noted in infected individuals they were largely asymptomatic. In 1980 the causal association between B19 infection and aplastic crisis in chronic haemolytic anaemia began to emerge with the discovery of B19 as the agent responsible for aplastic crisis in sickle cell anaemia. This fulfilled the expectation of a disease of

An inactivated vaccine against swine parvovirosis with a lipoid adjuvant was tested in a herd infested with parvoviruses. The titre of the haemagglutination-inhibition antibodies was studied at the time of the first pregnancy in two groups of gilts included in the herd at the age of 7.5 months - one group vaccinated, the other left untreated. In the vaccinated group the geometrical means of the titres were significantly higher than in the non-vaccinated group throughout the time of study. The difference in the average number of piglets per litter between the two groups was evaluated after part

Infection with human parvovirus (HPV) B19 was diagnosed in persons with hereditary spherocytosis during an outbreak of erythema infectiosum. A 10-year-old boy had an aplastic crisis of the bone marrow and a maculopapular rash. His mother also had an aplastic crisis, fever, rash and a transiently acellular marrow. Another boy had an aplastic crisis, leucopenia and fever, but did not have a rash. Aplastic crisis and a rash have rarely before been observed together and attributed to infection with HPV.

Five weeks after the onset of clinical symptoms of erythema infectiosum, a 24 year old pregnant woman, gravida I, para 0, suffered a hydrops fetalis which resulted in fetal loss. The maternal infection with the human parvovirus B19 could be confirmed serologically with ELISA and immunoblot by detecting specific IgM antibodies against B19. In an amniotic sample of the fetus Parvovirus B19 DNA could be detected by hybridisation. Fetal loss was obviously due to a parvovirus B19 infection of the mother and the fetus.

Two Japanese outbreaks of erythema infectiosum were investigated for evidence of human parvovirus infection by a solid phase antibody capture radioimmunoassay based on a monoclonal antibody to human parvovirus. Specific IgM and high concentrations of specific IgG were detected in 37 sera from 27 children with erythema infectiosum. No anti human parvovirus IgM was detected in a remaining case of erythema infectiosum, in five patients with Kawasaki disease, or in the 17 control children. Seven of the controls were also anti human parvovirus IgG negative, and the 10 who were seropositive had lowe

Parvovirus B19, a member of the Parvoviridae family, is a human pathogenic virus. It can be transmitted by respiratory secretions, hand-to-mouth contact, blood transfusion, or transplacental transmission. Most patients are asymptomatic or present with mild symptoms such as erythema infectiosum, especially in children. In rare cases, moderate-to-severe symptoms may occur, affecting blood cells and other systems, resulting in anemia, thrombocytopenia, and neutropenia. Non-immune pregnant women are at risk for fetal infection by parvovirus B19, with greater complications if transmission occurs in

Densovirus (DNV) is a small single-stranded DNA, non-enveloped virus belonging to the subfamily Densovirinae of the Parvoviridae family. This group of invertebrate viruses infects exclusively insects. Two of the major densoviruses, Aedes aegypti (AaeDNV) and Ae. albopictus (AalDNV), infect mosquitoes that carry viruses responsible for two important public health diseases, namely, dengue hemorrhagic fever and yellow fever. The present study describes cloning, sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of a new densovirus, AalDNV-4, from infected Ae. albopictus C6/36 cell line. The total nucleotide se

Human parvovirus B19 has been incriminated in the genesis of hematologic, dermatologic, neurologic, and rheumatic disorders. We report four cases in which inflammatory rheumatic manifestations developed during the course of human parvovirus B19 infection documented by the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies. There was one case each of monoarthritis, oligoarthritis, polyarthritis, and enthesitis. Three patients had a favorable outcome under nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug therapy, and one developed reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome. In patients with inflammatory rheumatic manifestations t
