Intravaginal lactic Acid bacteria modulated local and systemic immune responses and lowered the incidence of uterine infections in periparturient dairy cows.

The objective of this investigation was to evaluate whether intravaginal infusion of a lactic acid bacteria (LAB) cocktail around parturition could influence the immune response, incidence rate of uterine infections, and the overall health status of periparturient dairy cows. One hundred pregnant Holstein dairy cows were assigned to 1 of the 3 experimental groups as follows: 1) one dose of LAB on wk -2 and -1, and one dose of carrier (sterile skim milk) on wk +1 relative to the expected day of parturition (TRT1); 2) one dose of LAB on wk -2, -1, and +1 (TRT2), and 3) one dose of carrier on wk

Potential of lactic acid bacteria at regulating Escherichia coli infection and inflammation of bovine endometrium.

About 40% of dairy cattle develop uterine disease during postpartum period, causing infertility. Some studies indicate that uterine infection, predominantly by Escherichia coli in the first week postpartum, is associated with metritis, an uterus inflammation in which the cow fails to completely clear bacterial contaminants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of four lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus reuteri, and Lactobacillus sakei) to modulate the E coli infection and inflammation in endometrial cells. Probiotics: an Antibiotic Replacement Strategy for Healthy Broilers and Productive Rearing.

Pathogens develop resistance to antibiotics at a rate much faster than the discovery of new antimicrobial compounds. Reports of multidrug-resistant bacteria isolated from broilers, and the possibility that these strains may spread diseases amongst humans, prompted many European countries to ban the inclusion of antibiotics in feed. Probiotics added to broiler feed controlled a number of bacterial infections. A combination of Enterococcus faecium, Pediococcus acidilactici, Bacillus animalis, Lactobacillus salivarius and Lactobacillus reuteri decreased the colonisation of Campylobacter jejuni an

The Prophylactic Protection of P. acidilactici M22 from Feline Milk on S. Typhimurium Infection in Mice.

Breast milk is a major source of probiotics, particularly lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are known to regulate the intestinal microbial community and exert antibacterial effects. However, little is known about the preventive effects of feline milk-derived LAB against Salmonella infection in vivo. In this study, a strain of Pediococcus acidilactici (M22) was isolated from feline milk and evaluated for its protective potential in C57BL/6 mice challenged with Salmonella Typhimurium SL1344 (VNP20009). Following oral administration of M22, mice were infected with S. Typhimurium, and protective e

Nutritional factors affecting the production of two bacteriocins from lactic acid bacteria on whey.

The ability of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis CECT 539 and Pediococcus acidilactici NRRL B-5627 to produce bacteriocins on both diluted and concentrated whey was investigated in batch fermentations. Both strains produced the higher amounts of biomass and bacteriocin titres on diluted whey. Luedeking and Piret expression was able to model the production of nisin, which was produced as a primary metabolite on both culture media. However, the pediocin production could not be typified in any case due to the negligible growth of P. acidilactici. Although the whey supported the growth and bacterio

Screening of lactic acid bacteria from the milk of Sahiwal cows and characterization of their probiotic potential for preventing bovine mastitis.

Antibiotic therapy has been the most popular line of treatment for the control of mastitis worldwide during the last few decades. Alternative and sustainable treatments must be developed because pathogens are becoming more resistant to antibiotics, leading to the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The aim of the current investigation was to isolate lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with probiotic potential that can inhibit mastitis-causing pathogens to prevent bovine mastitis. Milk samples were collected from Sahiwal cows, and a total of 150 bacteria were isolated, of which 76

Bacteriocin-producing Saccharomyces cerevisiae inhibits bacterial contamination in raw starch-to-ethanol fermentations.

Contaminating lactic acid bacteria (LAB) compete with yeast cells for nutrients during starch-to-ethanol fermentations, affecting yeast cell viability and ethanol yields, with significant economic implications. Antibiotics are typically used to control LAB contaminants in the bioethanol industry; however, the global rise in antibiotic resistance necessitates the use of alternative antimicrobials, such as recombinant bacteriocins. In this study, 31 LAB were isolated from red sorghum flour fermentations, including Enterococcus (80.65%), Pediococcus (16.13%) and Lactococcus (3.22%) species, with
