Citreoviridin (CTVD), a mycotoxin called yellow rice toxin, is reported to be related to acute cardiac beriberi; however, its toxicokinetics remain unclear. The present study elucidated the toxicokinetics through in vivo experiments in swine and predicted the human toxicokinetics by comparing the findings to those from in vitro experiments. The enzymes of the penicillin biosynthetic pathway in Penicillium chrysogenum are located in different subcellular compartments. Consequently, penicillin pathway precursors and the biologically active penicillins have to cross one or more membranes. The final enzymatic step that is mediated by acyltransferase takes place in a microbody. The pH of the microbody lumen in penicillin producing cells has been determined with fluorescent probes and mutants of the green fluorescent protein and found to be slightly alkaline.

The first dimeric catalase-peroxidase of eucaryotic origin, an intracellular hydroperoxidase from Penicillium simplicissimum which exhibited both catalase and peroxidase activities, has been isolated. Penicillium marneffei is a rare human pathogen in Southeast Asia and Southern China. A 26-year-old heterosexual male had intermittent fever, diarrhea and weight loss for 3 months. The initial cause of the cessation of patulin biosynthesis in submerged cultures of Penicillium urticae was sought. BACKGROUND: Penicillium marneffei is the only dimorphic member of the genus and is an emerging pathogenic fungus that can cause fatal systemic mycosis. Penicillium marneffei disseminates hematogenously to other locations. Penicillium marneffei infection most commonly involves the skin, lungs, and reticuloendothelial system, including the bone, bone marrow, joints, lymph nodes, pericardium, liver, and spleen. Pulmonary infection caused by the opportunistic organisms Penicillium marneffei and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia in patients with Job's syndrome is rare and not well documented. The chitinase producing Penicillium sp. LYG 0704 was procured from soil of the Chonnam National University crop field. The chitinase activity was detected after the first day which increased gradually and reached its maximum after 3 days of cultivation. Penicillium marneffei is rarely pathogenic in humans. Most previously reported cases of P. marneffei infection were from Southeast Asia where patients were usually in an immunocompromised state due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The majority of the patients reported in Western countries were immunocompromised by malignancy, especially Hodgkin's lymphoma. The patient, who suffered from acute myeloid leukemia, developed signs and symptoms typical of fungal pneumonia and pericardial tamponade after undergoing standard induction chemotherapy.
