Penile cancer metastasizing to the breast: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Penile cancer is a relatively uncommon cancer in developed nations. Metastatic disease is rare, but lymphatic or vascular spreading has been previously reported to the liver, lungs, bones, brain, heart and skin. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 49-year-old white man with a penile squamous cell carcinoma previously treated with partial penectomy and bilateral inguinal lymph node dissection, followed by adjuvant therapy. Three years after treatment, the primitive neoplasm metastasized to the breast, presenting as a painful lump. Differentials of a secondary versus a malignan

Malignant priapism due to penile metastases: Case series and literature review.

Malignant priapism secondary to penile metastases is a rare condition. This term was originally used by Peacock in 1938 to describe a condition of painful induration and erection of the penis due to metastatic infiltration by a neoplasm. In the current literature there are 512 case reports. The primary tumor sites are bladder, prostate and rectum. The treatment has only palliative intent and consists of local tumor excision, penectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. We present one case of malignant priapism originated from prostate cancer, and two from urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. Diff

Population-based survival of penile cancer patients in Europe and the United States of America: no improvement since 1990.

INTRODUCTION: Penile cancer is a rare neoplasm in Western countries, and detailed studies on trends in population-based survival of penile cancer have never been published before. We examined population-based trends in survival in Europe and the United States of America (USA). METHODS: Data from 3297 European and 1820 American penile cancer patients, contributed by 12 European cancer registries and the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program of the USA were included in this study. Period analysis techniques were used to examine relative survival trends overall, as well as f

Urethral caruncle in penile urethra in a young male.

Urethral caruncles are seen almost exclusively in women. When these lesions are diagnosed in a male patient, he is likely to undergo unnecessary radical treatment mistaking a urethral caruncle for a malignant urethral neoplasm. Hence, a proper histopathological diagnosis is mandatory before deciding the final treatment. We report a case of fleshy masses in the penile urethra of a young male patient. Simple excision was performed and the histopathology revealed a urethral caruncle of the angiomatous variety.

Penile and preputial tumours in the horse: a retrospective study of 114 affected horses.

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Preputial and penile tumours are more common in horses than in other domestic animals, but no large surveys of male horses with tumours of the external genitalia are available. OBJECTIVE: To present a retrospective analysis of male horses with neoplasms of the external genitalia. METHODS: The penile and preputial tumours of 114 horses were evaluated. Data recorded included age, gelding or stallion and breed; type and site of lesion; involvement of regional lymph nodes; histopathology (including grading of squamous cell carcinoma); and results of radiographic exa

Traumatic neuromas of the penis: a clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical study of 17 cases.

We present 17 penile traumatic neuromas. The mean patient age at presentation was 38 years (range 23-59 years). The most common site involved was the penile shaft. The lesions ranged from 1 to 7 mm in greatest dimension. The clinical diagnosis in all cases included condyloma acuminatum. In all cases, a history of trauma because of prior biopsy and/or circumcision was found. Histologically, all lesions showed similar features consisting of an increased number of dermal nerve bundles embedded within a fibrous stroma. Often, single or multiple Meissner corpuscle-like structures were noted in the

Priapism in Lymphoproliferative Disorders: A Systematic Review.

Priapism is defined as a persistent penile erection lasting more than 4 h. We searched the literature for reviews, case reports, and series for patients with lymphoproliferative disorders who developed priapism. The search involved all the lymphoproliferative disorders included in the revised 2016 World Health Organization classification of lymphoid neoplasms including chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, Waldenström macroglobulinemia, and lymphomas. A total of 16 articles were found. The search included cases up to 4th January 2021. Priapism was seen most commonly as the first mani

Sickle cell episode manifesting as superficial thrombophlebitis of the penis.

In 1955, the first reported case of Mondor's disease (superficial thrombophlebitis) of the penis was published. Since then, there have been scattered reports of penile Mondor's disease in the literature. Most studies suggest sexual trauma or neoplasm as the most frequent etiologic factor. The authors report a case of a sickle cell episode presenting with superficial thrombophlebitis of the penis. The patient was treated with an antiinflammatory agent and reassured that this is a self-limiting process. Resolution of symptoms occurred within 6 weeks.

Video-endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL) oncological and surgical benefits compared to open inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND).

Penile cancer accounts for about 1% of all male cancer diagnoses in the United States. Regional lymph node involvement is strongly correlated with overall outcomes, and as such the procedure of inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND) is imperative to the diagnostic and oncologic outcomes for these patients. The current gold standard of open ILND presents challenges in mitigating detrimental postoperative sequalae such as wound complications and lymphedema, without compromising oncologic outcomes. There has been a growing interest and shift in minimally invasive (MIS) approaches to tackle the cha

Human Papillomavirus in Men: An Updated Review of its Clinical and Epidemiological Relevance.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide and also represents an important public health issue in men. This review synthesizes current evidence on epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and preventive strategies for HPV in men, highlighting key differences compared to females. Prevalence remains high throughout adult life, and the penile shaft is the anatomical site with the highest viral load. HPV is implicated in a significant proportion of penile, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers, with genotype 16 being the most prevalent. Limited seroconversi

Radiation therapy for classic Kaposi's sarcoma presenting only on the glans penis.

Kaposi's sarcoma is an endothelial neoplasm with a variety of clinical presentations that rarely involve only the glans penis. Although it is recognized as a radiosensitive lesion, most of the reported cases of penile Kaposi's sarcoma have been treated surgically. We describe 2 otherwise healthy men with this unusual presentation of Kaposi's sarcoma who were treated with radiation therapy. These cases and a review of the literature demonstrate the role of radiation therapy in the conservative management of classic Kaposi's sarcoma involving the penis.

Imaging diagnosis--seminoma causing liver compression in a spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca).

A 13-year-old male spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca) was presented with anorexia, apathy, and prolapse of penile tissue. Ultrasonography revealed a large heterogeneous mass in the coelomic cavity, and fine-needle aspiration demonstrated sperm. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a sharply defined mass originating from the left testis. Appearance and signal intensities were similar to those reported in testicular neoplasms in humans, in particular sharing similarities with seminomas. Necropsy results and histopathological findings were consistent with a seminoma. To the authors' knowledge th

A Rare Variant of Penile Squamous Cell Carcinoma in a Man with Paraplegia.

Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). It is described as a low grade, slow growing, locally infiltrative neoplasm that accounts for 3%-8% of penile SCCs. Here we report a case of destructive VC of the glans penis in a paraplegic man resulting in a hypospadias from the tip of the glans to the corona. Histology demonstrated exophytic squamous epithelial proliferation with characteristic round, pushing borders. In situ hybridization was positive for both low-risk and high-risk strains of human papillomavirus.

Clinical and Novel Biomarkers in Penile Carcinoma: A Prospective Review.

Penile carcinoma is a rare urological neoplasia in men compared to other more common tumors, such as prostate, kidney, or bladder tumors. However, this neoplasm continues to affect a large number of patients worldwide, with developing countries presenting the highest incidence and mortality rates. Important risk factors such as the human papilloma virus, a factor affecting a large number of patients, have been described; however, few studies have evaluated screening programs in populations at risk for this disease, which severely affects the quality of life of older men. The management of thes

Challenges in diagnosis of primary penile tumor of the endodermal sinus in infants.

INTRODUCTION: Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are an uncommon group of malignant neoplasms in the pediatric population. The endodermal sinus tumor, also known as yolk sac tumor, is the most frequent subtype of GCT and typically originates in the gonads. Extragonadal presentation is rare, particularly in the penis. OBJECTIVE: To describe the case of a male infant with an extragonadal penile endodermal sinus tumor, emphasizing the diagnostic challenges and the role of alpha-fetoprotein (αFP) as a monitoring biomarker. CLINICAL CASE: A previously healthy 18-month-old male infant presented with a one-mo

Epithelioid sarcoma of the penis: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Epithelioid sarcoma of the penis is a slowly growing soft tissue neoplasm that rarely arises from the penis. AIM: The aim of this case is to describe this rare pathology and to underline the importance of differential diagnosis with benign diseases such as Peyronie's disease. METHOD: We report the case of a 20-year-old man who referred the onset of a progressive left dorsolateral penile curvature (about 60°) started 3 years before. The patient was evaluated with two US examinations that revealed two sites of tunical thickening with normal hemodynamic evaluation. The physical ex

[Update on the pathologic features of penile cancer].

Penile squamous cell carcinoma (SSC) accounts for almost 10% of male cancers in high-incidence areas, although the incidence in Europe is below 1%. About half of penile SCCs arise from a precancerous high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) caused by a transforming infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), most often high-risk HPV16. The HPV E6/E7 oncoproteins bind to proteins of the p53 and retinoblastoma pathways. This cell cycle disruption results in cellular accumulation/overexpression of p16, which serves as surrogate biomarker for HPV-associated carcinogenesis. The majority of

A comprehensive review of current knowledge on penile squamous cell carcinoma.

Neoplasm of the penis is relatively rare in most regions representing 0-2% of cancers worldwide. While the penis can be affected by sarcomas, basal cell carcinomas or even melanoma, Penile Squamous Cell Carcinoma (PSCC) represents approximately 95% of all penile neoplasms. Despite its rarity and most common presentation at later decades of life most individuals diagnosed with PSCC are faced with significant decrease in quality of life. The prevalence and incidence vary among different regions and populations, but a common trend is for diagnosis to occur late (stage 4). Underdeveloped countries
