Disability pension receipt in young adults: an analysis of the Swiss Social protection and labour market (SESAM) data.

BACKGROUND: There has been an overall decreasing trend in the inflow into disability pension in Switzerland since 2003 with the exception of young adults. Disablement in young adulthood reflects a particularly critical phenomenon given the potentially far-reaching long-term social, economic and health consequences. The aim of this study was therefore to identify factors for disability pension in young adults aged 18-39, living in Switzerland. METHODS: We used the 2010-2015 cross-sections of the Social protection and labour market; a unique dataset linking microdata from the Swiss Labour Force

Inability to work and need for disability pension among long-term survivors of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Return to work is critical goal following HSCT. However, late effects may impede return to normal activity after HSCT. In the case of inability to work, patients may need a work disability pension to ensure a reasonable livelihood. This study evaluated inability to work and need for disability pension among long-term survivors and analyzed possible determinants of need for social support. This retrospective, single-center study included all HSCT patients surviving ⩾5 years seen at the outpatient clinic between January 2013 and August 2015. There were 203 patients, median age at HSCT 35 years,

Factors associated with receipt of pension and compensation benefits for homeless veterans in the VBA/VHA Homeless Outreach Initiative.

Public support payments may facilitate exit from homelessness for persons with mental illness. We examined data from 10,641 homeless veterans contacted from October 1, 1995 to September 30, 2002 in a collaborative outreach program designed to facilitate access to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability benefits. Those who were awarded benefits (22% of contacted veterans) were more likely to report disability, poor to fair self-rated health, and were more likely to have used VA services in the past. Thus, this program achieved only modest success and was most successful with veterans who

[Which pensioners receive home help? A sociomedical survey of 1,261 persons 70-95 years of age].

The aim of the article is to describe variables associated with use of home help. A random sample of 1,261 non-institutionalised elderly persons aged 70-95 years in four communes answered a questionnaire on their health and social situation during the winter 1986/87. Twenty-five percent receive home help: 13%, 26% and 49% in the age groups 70-74, 75-79, and 80-95, respectively. Among those living alone more males than females receive home help (41% vs. 35%), as compared with those not living alone (M: 12%, F: 22%). Individuals receiving home help are characterised by reduced functional capacit

Liquidity shock mitigation and mental health: Evidence from pension withdrawals during the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between income and mental health has been widely documented, yet evidence on the effects of mitigating income shocks remains limited and context dependent. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chile implemented an exceptional policy allowing individuals to withdraw a portion of their pension savings, constituting a large-scale, untargeted mechanism for mitigating the liquidity shock that affected diverse socioeconomic groups. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the association between pension fund withdrawals and mental health among the adult population during the COVID-19 pandemic i

Association of the Type of Public Pension With Mental Health Among South Korean Older Adults: Longitudinal Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: As income and health are closely related, retirement is considered undesirable for health. Many studies have shown the association between pension and health, but no research has considered the association between contribution-based public pensions or their types and health. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the association between the type of contributory public pension and depressive symptoms among older adults. METHODS: We analyzed the data of 4541 older adults who participated in the South Korea Welfare Panel Study (2014-2020). Depressive symptoms were measured using the 11-

Neurodevelopmental disorders among young adults and the risk of sickness absence and disability pension: a nationwide register linkage study.

Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States(1). Despite a positive initial response to therapies, 70 to 90 percent of women with ovarian cancer develop new metastases, and the recurrence is often fatal(2). It is, therefore, necessary to understand how secondary metastases arise in order to develop better treatments for intermediate and late stage ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer metastasis occurs when malignant cells detach from the primary tumor site and disseminate throughout the peritoneal cavity. The disseminated cells can form multicellular cluste
