The amino acid sequences of gastrointestinal hormones were compared in fragments of variable spans. Similarities within each of three peptide groups are extensive, but non-unique alignments were also noticed in the glucagon group. In Drosophila melanogaster, a widely used model organism, a diverse range of gut-peptide hormones governs gut-brain communication, influencing food intake, energy balance, circadian rhythms, stress responses, and aging.

Copper plays an important role in cardiac and brain function possibly through endocrine and neuroendocrine systems. The syndrome of copper deficiency is worsened by dietary fructose and other trace metals such as zinc. We investigated the effect of a low copper diet on plasma opioid peptides in 11 healthy young volunteers who were fed foods low in copper but adequate in all other nutrients. Plasma concentrations of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) were measured in 8 patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) of NYHA functional class III-IV, before and during treatment with captopril, 6.25-25.0 mg t.i.d., added to their drug regimen.
