CDK1 serves as a therapeutic target of adrenocortical carcinoma via regulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition, G2/M phase transition, and PANoptosis.

BACKGROUND: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is an extremely rare, aggressive tumor with few effective therapeutic options or drugs. Mitotane (Mtn), which is the only authorized therapeutic drug, came out in 1970 and is still the only first-line treatment for ACC in spite of serious adverse reaction and a high recurrence rate. METHODS: By in silico analysis of the ACC dataset in the cancer genome atlas (TCGA), we determined that high expression levels of cyclin-dependent kinase-1 (CDK1) were significantly related to the adverse clinical outcomes of ACC. In vitro and in vivo experiments were per

1T-to-2H Phase Evolution During Epitaxial Growth of Transition Metal Dichalcogenides.

Polymorphism in transition-metal dichalcogenides is typically defined based on the post-growth phase (1T or 2H) or stabilized heterophase structures. Transient 1T-to-2H phase evolution is demonstrated during epitaxial growth of MoS2 and WSe2 on sapphire by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). In both systems, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows that metallic 1T character is prominent during early stages of growth when the film is comprised of small domains and declines as domains enlarge and coalesce and the films approach stoichiometric composition. At low coverage, the XPS-deri

Unveiling Layer-Dependent Phase Transition and Lattice Dynamics in Two-Dimensional InSe.

Two-dimensional (2D) indium selenide (InSe) has attracted considerable interest due to its superior ballistic transport properties, superplasticity, and thermoelectric properties. Ferroelectricity and a variety of other intriguing physical characteristics. These arise from its van der Waals (vdW) layered structure, interlayer coupling, and intralayer interactions. The vibrational modes of 2D InSe are highly sensitive to thickness. The phase transitions in 2D materials, which are critical to their properties and applications, are closely related to interlayer and intralayer vibrations. However,

Cell phenotype phase separation in epithelial-mesenchymal transition-mediated collective cell migration.

Collective cell migration plays a critically regulatory role in both physiological and pathological processes, e.g., embryonic development, wound healing, cancer progression and metastasis. Nevertheless, spatiotemporal progression of epithelial and mesenchymal cell migration remains poorly understood. Here, we report an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-modulated cell phenotype phase separation (CPPS) within spatially confined microenvironments, where the mesenchymal cells display enhanced boundary-directed colonization in a phenotype-dependent manner. Subsequently, we reveal that the CP

Electrochemical Metallization-Induced Localized Phase Transition for Integrated Memory and Neuromorphic Computing.

The energy inefficiency associated with the von Neumann architecture has driven extensive interest in memory devices capable of integrating storage and computation. Nevertheless, conventional phase-change random access memory (PCRAM) still suffers from fundamental device-level limitations because it relies on bulk Joule heating, causing severe thermal dissipation and limited switching efficiency. This work proposes an electrochemical metallization (ECM)-induced localized phase-transition strategy based on Ag/C-doped Sb2Te (C2ST21). Transient Ag conductive pathways confine current and thermal a

Hydrogel Phase Transition-Driven Soft Gating Circumvents Debye Screening for Advanced Biosensing.

Solid-state nanofluidic sensors provide a versatile platform for label-free molecular diagnostics. However, achieving high sensitivity in complex physiological environments remains severely restricted by the Debye screening effect. Here, we introduce a stimuli-responsive 3D soft gating strategy based on a hydrogel phase transition to address this limitation. By asymmetrically assembling a peptide-DNA hybrid hydrogel on the outer surface of nanochannels, we establish a volumetric functional zone governed by macroscopic Donnan equilibrium. Target-induced structural disassembly of this network tr

Magnetic Phase Transition in the Quasi-One-Dimensional Spin Chain System Fe0.75Cu0.25NbO4.

In the present work, we conducted a comprehensive study using multiple experimental techniques to elucidate the structural, charge-state, vibrational, and magnetic properties of the quasi-one-dimensional spin chain system Fe0.75Cu0.25NbO4. We found that substituting Fe3+ (3d5, s = 5/2) with Cu2+ (3d9, s = 1/2) induces significant changes in the lattice parameters, mixed valence states of Cu (Cu2+ and Cu1+), and oxygen vacancies, as well as a ferrimagnetic (FiM) ordered state at room temperature. The FiM state is supported by double-exchange interactions between Fe3+ and Cu2+, mediated by oxyge

Activity Leads to Topological Phase Transition in 2D Populations of Heterogeneous Oscillators.

Populations of heterogeneous, noisy oscillators on a two-dimensional lattice display short-range order. Here, we show that if the oscillators are allowed to actively move in space, the system undergoes instead a Berezenskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition and exhibits quasi-long-range order. This fundamental result connects two paradigmatic models-the XY and Kuramoto models-and provides insight into the emergence of order in active systems.

Rad23B Delays Ataxin-3 Liquid-to-solid Phase Transition Through Heterotypic Buffering.

The abnormal expansion of polyglutamine (polyQ) length in Ataxin-3 is associated with Machado-Joseph disease, forming nuclear inclusions in neurons. A truncated variant of Ataxin-3 with two ubiquitin-interacting motifs (UIMs) has recently been shown to undergo liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying Ataxin-3 aggregation through amyloid formation and phase separation remain unclear. Here we investigated the LLPS properties of Ataxin-3 with three UIMs, the most abundant isoform found inthe brain. Ataxin-3 Q25 forms phase-separated droplets which underg

Liquid-Gas Phase Transition Actuator: Rejuvenation Procedure Extended and Open-Air Performance.

To achieve the actuation of silicone-based foamed composites, a liquid-gas phase transition of the liquid captured in its pores is employed. The uncertainty of key parameters for a single or sequential open-air performance of such soft actuators limits their application. To define the main characteristics of the composites, in this work, two functions of the liquid there were separated: the pore-forming agent (FPA) and working liquid (WL). It was demonstrated that the composites can be fabricated using either ethanol or methanol as the PFA, while any of the C1-C4 alcohols can be used as the WL

Multiple Weyl fermions and topological phase transition in two-dimensional ferromagnetic CrS2.

The study of topological states in two-dimensional (2D) systems, especially with magnetic properties, has recently gained significant attention owing to their potential in spintronics and nanotechnology. Here, we propose a 2D ferromagnetic (FM) material, CrS2, which hosts multiple Weyl points (WPs) and can undergo a topological phase transition by rotating the magnetization direction. Based on first-principles calculations, we identify distinct Weyl points around the Fermi level: W1, W2, and W3. These points appear in both spin channels and include various types: type-I, type-II and type-III W

Critical behavior and the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in a musical phase transition.

We investigate the critical phenomena emerging from a statistical mechanics model of musical harmony on a three-dimensional (3D) lattice, and the resulting structure of the ordered phase. In this model, each lattice site represents a tone, with nearest neighbors interacting via the perception of dissonance between them. With dissonance assumed to be an octave-wise periodic function of pitch difference, this model is a 3D XY system with the same symmetry and dimensionality as superfluid helium and models of the cosmological axion field. We use numerical simulation to observe a phase transition

Correlation-driven topological phase transition in 2D valleytronic materials: a mini-review.

Electronic correlation combined with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) may have a significant impact on the physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal magnetic compounds. Moreover, magnetic anisotropy (MA) is very important in determining magnetic, ferrovalley (FV) and topological properties of these 2D systems. Based on a density-functional theory (DFT) + U approach, it is found that the electronic correlation can induce topological phase transition in some special 2D valleytronic materials (for example FeCl2 and VSi2P4) with out-of-plane MA, and a novel valley-polarized quantum ano

Coupled Diffusion-Binding-Deformation Modelling for Phase-Transition Microneedles-Based Drug Delivery.

Phase-transition microneedles (PTMNs)-based transdermal drug delivery (TDD) is gaining popularity due to its non-invasiveness and ability to deliver a wide range of drugs. PTMNs absorb interstitial skin fluid (ISF) and transport drugs from microneedle (MNs) domain to the skin without polymer dissolution. To establish PTMNs for practical use, one needs to understand and optimise the key parameters governing drug transport mechanisms to achieve controlled drug delivery. In addressing this point, we have developed a coupled diffusion-binding-deformation model to understand the effect of physicoch

The ferroelastic phase transition in hydrogen cyanide studied by density functional theory.

We report calculations of the crystal structures and lattice dynamics of the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases of the molecular crystal hydrogen cyanide, HCN, using density functional theory methods. By treating negative pressure as a proxy for raising temperature we show that the ferroelastic phase transition involves softening of a transverse acoustic mode, and confirm that the phase transition is discontinuous. Analysis of the complete phonon spectrum shows that the acoustic modes are responsible both for the very large thermal expansion seen in HCN and also for the thermodynamic driving f

Transition phase during hyperventilation therapy for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the neonate.

It is important for the clinician who is hyperventilating infants with persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN) to recognize a transition phase during therapy when pulmonary hypertension is no longer the primary cause of hypoxemia, because infants who are hyperventilated develop parenchymal lung disease after 2 to 3 days. This study reports ten infants who showed PaO2 lability early in the course of PPHN, with an inverse relationship between PaO2 and PaCO2. At a mean age of 79 +/- 14 (SEM) there was a transition phase, after which PaO2 lability decreased and the infants did not require hyperve

Shear Strain Stiffening in Cartilage is Governed by a Mechanical Phase Transition.

UNLABELLED: Large shear deformation in cartilage can lead to tissue failure and injury, which are often precursors to diseases such as post-traumatic osteoarthritis. Under shear, cartilage strain-stiffens prior to failure, which makes stiffening an important indicator of changes to the loading of the extracellular matrix that gives rise to this tissue's properties. While a variety of stiffening mechanisms ranging from uncrimping to fiber-alignment have been explored, whether such mechanisms apply to the depth dependent shear strain stiffening in articular cartilage remains poorly understood. Antiferroelectric Phase Transition in Titanite-Type Solid Solutions Na(Nb,Ta)GeO5.

Titanite-type oxides ABMO5 are emerging antiferroelectrics owing to their unique one-dimensional structure. In this study, the predominant role of the B-site off-center displacement on the antiferroelectricity of titanite-type solid solutions Na(Nb,Ta)GeO5 is revealed via dielectric measurements and synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments. Increasing the Nb concentration led to stronger second-order Jahn-Teller effects and a larger B-site off-center displacement along BO6 chains, resulting in a more stable antiferroelectric state and a higher phase transition temperature. The anisotropy of t

Doping-induced magnetic phase transition enables all-electrical spin control in CrSBr.

Van der Waals antiferromagnetic semiconductors are promising platforms for energy-efficient two-dimensional spintronics. However, their intrinsic spin degeneracy and the difficulty of achieving electrical spin control pose major challenges for practical device implementation. Here, we present a distinct spintronic platform based on an antiferromagnetic semiconductor CrSBr, in which carrier doping induced by gate-controlled intercalation drives a reversible, zero-field antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition, enabling direct and full electrical control of both magnetic order and spi

Pressure-induced phase transition of 3,4-dinitropyrazole by 2D hydrogen bonded networks.

As a kind of energetic material, explosives would face an environment of high-pressure during initiation to detonation or under shock waves. Under such conditions, explosives would experience a phase transition and even directly decompose. Therefore, there is a need to achieve the high-pressure evolution of explosives. 3,4-dinitropyrazole (DNP), which has excellent energy and sensibility, can be used as a potential carrier of melt cast explosive to replace TNT. However, the structural evolution of DNP with the increase in pressure remains elusive. With the help of diamond anvil cell technology
