Tunable Skyrmion, Meron, and Skyrmion Bag Textures in Surface Phonon Polariton Lattices.

Surface phonon polaritons (SPhPs) enable nanoscale manipulation of mid-infrared light via deeply subwavelength topological vector textures, such as skyrmions. Achieving dynamic, real-time control over these topological features remains challenging. Here, we theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate an actively tunable platform on a silicon carbide membrane that creates lattices of diverse topological textures, including skyrmions, merons, and skyrmion bags. By exploiting the sublinear SPhP dispersion, we dynamically adjust the excitation wavelength to tune the topological character of

Sub-100 Femtosecond All-Optical Modulation Beyond Electron-Phonon Limits.

Ultrafast all-optical modulators are central to the advancement of next-generation photonic computing and signal-processing systems. However, the intrinsic electron-phonon relaxation bottleneck in plasmonic materials has long constrained modulation speeds to the picosecond regime, hindering the realization of sub-100 fs modulation. Here, we report a metastructured silver-single-crystal silicon nanodisk antenna that delivers experimentally resolved sub-100 fs all-optical modulation. Distinct from conventional planar metal-semiconductor junctions, the nanodisk architecture spatially co-localizes

Phonon-scattering-induced linear magnetoresistance in the quantum limit up to room temperature.

Quantum transport at elevated temperatures is essential for unveiling novel physics and developing quantum devices. Here, we report quantum linear magnetoresistance in the Weyl semiconductor tellurium at temperatures from 40 to 300 K under magnetic fields up to 60 T. The inverse temperature dependence of the linear slopes for both transverse and longitudinal magnetoresistance provides clear evidence that the linear magnetoresistance originates from phonon scattering in the quantum limit. The unique Weyl band features large Landau level gaps that suppress thermal excitation, preserving Landau q

Disorder-Free Solitonlike Energy Transport in Moiré-Engineered Phononic Flat Bands.

The pursuit of low-loss, directional energy transport and heat localization is critical in frontier fields such as hybrid quantum computing, thermophysics, and materials science. Localized phonon modes, with spatially confined vibrational energy and suppressed diffusive scattering, provide promising routes toward this goal. However, conventional approaches to phonon localization necessitate material disorder or nonlinear interactions, limiting their potential for controllable, on-demand energy routing and concentration in pristine, scalable materials. In this Letter, we demonstrate disorder-fr

Advances in Iron-Based Superconductors and Transformational Insights into Electron-Differential Phonon Coupling.

Since the discovery of iron-based superconductors nearly two decades ago, significant advancements have been made, including the enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) to above 100 K. However, the underlying pairing mechanism remains an unresolved enigma. In this article, we present experimental developments in iron-based superconductors, focusing on their unique properties and the complexities involved in their behavior. We discuss the recently announced electron-differential phonon coupling model, which aims to provide a framework to calculate the Tc of iron-based sup

Investigation of Temperature-Dependent Phonon Anharmonicity and Thermal Transport in SnS Single Crystals.

Tin sulfide has outstanding thermoelectric properties in the b-axis direction of crystallography as a IV-VI group layered compound, which arouses great attention. In this study, temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopy (TDRS) is used to quantify the phonon anharmonicity in SnS crystals from 77 to 475 K, where the three-phonon process dominates in this temperature region. Moreover, integration of the four-phonon process and lattice thermal expansion will better describe the temperature-dependent Raman experimental phenomenon. The good agreement between the calculated and experimental lattice th

Tuning phononic and electronic contributions of thermoelectric in defected S-shape graphene nanoribbons.

Thermoelectrics as a way to use waste heat, is essential in electronic industries, but its low performance at operational temperatures makes it inappropriate in practical applications. Tailoring graphene can change its properties. In this work, we are interested in studying the transport properties of S-shape graphene structures with the single vacancy (SV) and double vacancy (DV) models. The structures are composed of a chiral part, which is an armchair graphene nanoribbon, and two zigzag graphene ribbons. We investigate the changes in the figure of merit by means of the Seebeck coefficient,

Universal ratio of TTLS-phonon coupling constants in low-temperature amorphous solids.

Tunneling-two-level-system model (TTLS model) has successfully explained several universal properties of amorphous solids at low temperatures. The experimentalists found that the ratios of TTLS-phonon coupling constants [Formula: see text] lie between 1.44 and 1.84 among 16 different amorphous solids, which turns out to be a universal quantity (Berret and Meissner 1988 Z. Phys. B 70 65). However, this universal property remains unexplained. Based on the model introduced by Vural and Leggett (2011 J. Non-Cryst. Solids 357 3528) and real space renormalization, we demonstrate that [Formula: see t

[Effect of pressure on electron-phonon coupling constants of all-trans-beta-carotene].

The present paper cited that R Tubino and other people introduced a kind of electron-phonon coupling constants with dimension, which can establish the relation with the Huang-Rhys factor and calculate the electron-phonon coupling constants of every C-C bond vibration mode. There are many reports about the visible absorption and Raman spectra of all-trans-beta-carotene with pressure. But the study about the Raman scattering cross section and the Huang-Rhys factor with pressure have not been reported now. Visible absorption and Raman spectra of all-trans-beta-carotene were measured in carbon dis

Electronic structure and exciton-phonon interaction in two-dimensional colloidal CdSe nanosheets.

We study the electronic structure of ultrathin zinc-blende two-dimensional (2D)-CdSe nanosheets both theoretically, by Hartree-renormalized k·p calculations including Coulomb interaction, and experimentally, by temperature-dependent and time-resolved photoluminescence measurements. The observed 2D-heavy hole exciton states show a strong influence of vertical confinement and dielectric screening. A very weak coupling to phonons results in a low phonon-contribution to the homogeneous line-broadening. The 2D-nanosheets exhibit much narrower ensemble absorption and emission linewidths as compared

Excitonic Landscape and Phonon-Mediated Recombination in Moiré-Engineered Twisted WSe2 Bilayers.

Twist-angle engineering in two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures unlocks an additional degree of freedom to tune optoelectronic properties and probe multibody quantum interactions. Here, we report light emission from the moiré superlattice of a twisted bilayer of tungsten diselenide (WSe2/WSe2) encapsulated in insulating hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). The low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy reveals signatures of moiré-potential-induced strong interlayer excitonic emission and phonon-assisted recombinations, while the twisting significantly suppresses the emi

The Efficient Excitation of High-Order Hyperbolic Phonon Polaritons in Boron Nitride Nanoshells.

High-order hyperbolic phonon polaritons provide superior light confinement and multimodal information pathways, offering a new degree for manipulating light at deep-subwavelength scales. However, their efficient excitation remains challenging due to the stringent requirements for both large wavevector composition and spatial symmetry matching. In this work, we demonstrate that zero-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride nanoshells (BNNSs), featuring atomically smooth nanocavities with high light field confinement, enable effective excitation of high-order hyperbolic phonon polariton whispering ga

Long-Range Mid-Infrared Energy Transfer Mediated by Hyperbolic Phonon Polaritons.

We provide a framework to theoretically describe long-range energy transfer in single and twisted two-dimensional hyperbolic slabs. We demonstrate that phonon polaritons, quantum superpositions of photons and lattice vibrations in polar dielectrics, can mediate and enhance energy transfer at ranges far exceeding those of conventional mid-infrared (MIR) platforms and with extreme directionality. This is because the dipole-dipole interaction potential energy diverges along the asymptotes of the real-space hyperbolic opening angle. Our findings allow us to extend classical and quantum interaction

Layer-Dependent Phonon Polaritons in hBN Resolved by Photo-Induced Force Spectroscopy.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a widely studied van der Waals material that supports highly confined phonon polaritons-hybrid light-matter quasiparticles arising from the coupling of infrared photons with optical phonons. While prior works-primarily using scattering-type near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM)-have explored the effect of hBN layer number on the wavelength and propagation characteristics of phonon polaritons, the direct spectroscopic investigation of their resonance energy as a function of layer number has remained largely unaddressed. In this study, we present the first syste

Sensitivity in phononic crystal sensors via super asymmetric coupled-cavity engineering.

This work presents a one-dimensional super-asymmetric coupled-cavity phononic crystal sensor for concentration-dependent liquid analysis using an ethanol-water mixture as the sensing medium. The proposed structure consists of periodic acoustic mirrors surrounding an asymmetric coupled-defect region expressed as Air∣(A/B)7∣CL∣D∣CR∣(B/A)7 ∣Air, where the asymmetry is introduced through unequal coupling cavity thicknesses. The structural asymmetry modifies the acoustic confinement behavior inside the liquid defect cavity and enhances the resonance sensitivity to concentration variations. The tran

A novel high-sensitivity triaxial accelerometer based on 3-D phononic crystals.

High-sensitivity triaxial acceleration sensing is widely applied from consumer electronics to inertial navigation. However, Conventional triaxial accelerometers are mainly rely on assembling multiple single-axis transducers, which increases device size and complexity. The acceleration-sensing mechanism of phononic crystals (PnCs) has demonstrated significant potential for high-sensitivity detection, owing to the high-quality factor of their resonant cavities. In this paper, based on the theory of 2-D PnCs single-axis acceleration sensing, we propose a novel triaxial accelerometer based on 3-D

Electron-phonon interaction and superconductivity in the silicon-boron-carbon monolayers with high stability.

Recently, considerable attention has been given to the exploration of superconductivity in low-dimensional materials. By employing unbiased structure search and first-principles calculations, we systematically investigate the structural and electronic properties of the predicted two-dimensional (2D) compounds SiBC4, SiBC6, and SiB4C in the monolayer limit. These structures demonstrate high thermal stability at 1,500 K and meet the criteria for mechanical and dynamic stability. Most importantly, they are identified as intrinsic superconductors with superconducting transition temperatures (T c )

The effect of non-stoichiometry in Sb2Se3 films on their phonon and electronic properties in the infrared range.

Due to the noticeable part of Sb2Se3 films in solar cell technology, the deposition of Sb2Se3 films with the desirable content and improved crystalline perfection is of crucial importance. Therefore, extensive experimental and theoretical studies of the electronic and phonon properties of these materials are of interest. In this work, the stoichiometry and morphology of antimony selenide films are correlated to their optical properties in the far-infrared regime and compared to theoretically calculated properties for an ideal crystal. For this study, the reflectance of a series of 1.4-1.7 μm t

Unidirectional hyperbolic whispering-gallery phonon-polariton excitation in boron nitride nanotubes.

In two-dimensional (2D) hyperbolic materials, energy is directed into their deep subwavelength polaritonic modes through four narrow beams. Hyperbolic whispering-gallery mode nanocavity-confined phonon polaritons (PhPs) display a strongly enhanced light-matter interaction in the infrared regime. Particularly, the unidirectional phonon-polarization excitation in nanocavities has a potential application value in an on-chip integrated optical circuit design, efficient optical sensors, and enhanced spectral technology. Here, we explore the hyperbolic whispering-gallery mode PhPs on the cross secti
