Pharmacological evidence for the use of Cissus assamica as a medicinal plant in the management of pain and pyrexia.

The existing therapeutic agents for the management of pain and pyrexia are not very efficient and accompanied by numerous side effects. Thus, new effective agents are the most needed. The present study investigates bioactivities and phytochemical screening of different parts of Cissus assamica (Vitaceae), a Bangladeshi tribal medicinal plant. Three plant parts stems, leaves and roots were collected, washed, dried, powdered and then prepared for cold extraction. The methanolic stems and leaves extracts were fractioned with four and two solvents respectively. Different plant extracts were then i

Spatial distribution tracing of MOFs in cucumber seedlings by fluorescence imaging and LA-ICP-MS.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show great potential in agricultural applications, and clarifying their in-plant distribution is essential for assessing their ecological effects and biosafety. Single imaging method suffers from limited spatial resolution and inaccurate localization, restricting reliable analysis of plant-MOF interactions. Herein, we established a synergistic imaging approach combining fluorescence and LA-ICP-MS to characterize the translocation of Eu-BDC-NH2 and UiO-66-NH2 in cucumber seedlings. The imaging results demonstrate the preferential accumulation of two MOF in cucumb

High temperature attenuates the gravitropism of inflorescence stems by inducing SHOOT GRAVITROPISM 5 alternative splicing in Arabidopsis.

In higher plants, gravitropism proceeds through three sequential steps in the responding organs: perception of gravity signals, signal transduction and asymmetric cell elongation. Light and temperature also influence the gravitropic orientation of plant organs. A series of Arabidopsis shoot gravitropism (sgr) mutants has been shown to exhibit disturbed shoot gravitropism. SGR5 is functionally distinct from other SGR members in that it mediates the early events of gravitropic responses in inflorescence stems. Here, we demonstrated that SGR5 alternative splicing produces two protein variants (SG

Comparative analysis of bioactive constituents and pharmacological activities from different parts of Nauclea officinalis.

The stems of Nauclea officinalis have been utilized as a crude drug in China, so other parts of the plant are abandoned, resulting in a waste of traditional Chinese medicine resources. To determine the distribution and content of the alkaloids, phenolic acids and iridoid in different organs (stem, branch, leaf and bark) of this plant, a reliable method has been established using LC-MS/MS. Nine constituents, namely strictosamide, vincosamide, chlorogenic acid, sweroside, naucleamide B, protocatechuic acid, pumiloside, vanillic acid and cryptochlorogenic acid, were simultaneously determined in 6

Engineering vascular grafts from decellularized plants: Advances and challenges.

Small-caliber vascular grafts (<6 mm diameter) are critical for coronary and peripheral bypass surgeries, yet developing functional substitutes remains challenging. Autologous vessels are ideal but often unavailable or of poor quality. Synthetic grafts, such as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) and Dacron, have high failure rates at small diameters due to thrombosis, intimal hyperplasia, and compliance mismatch. Tissue-engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) aim to overcome these issues by providing a biocompatible scaffold with an endothelial lining. Decellularized plant tissues have recent

Ginsenoside Rb3 Combined with 20(S)-Protopanaxadiol Ameliorates Hypercholesterolemia via the Regulation of Lipid Metabolism and Gut Microbiota.

Hypercholesterolemia is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease and imposes a serious global disease burden. The stems and leaves of Panax notoginseng, as edible parts of the plant, are rich in ginsenoside Rb3. However, the lipid-lowering effects and mechanism of ginsenoside Rb3 remain unclear, which limits the utilization of Panax notoginseng stems and leaves. Our results showed that ginsenoside Rb3, particularly with PPD, inhibited cholesterol absorption, enhanced LDLR-mediated LDL uptake, reduced body weight, alleviated dyslipidemia, and attenuated liver injury and lipid accumulation.
