Integration of artificial ıntelligence into primary school classrooms: the role of ChatGPT in ımproving poetry writing skills and attitudes towards poetry.

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of using ChatGPT as a feedback mechanism on enhancing primary school students' poetry writing skills and attitudes towards poetry. In this study, a quasi-experimental design model with a pretest-posttest control group, a quantitative research method, was employed. In this study, conducted during the 2024-2025 academic year, 60 primary school fourth-grade students (30 experimental, 30 control) aged 10 years formed the study group for the research. During the six-week implementation period, students in the experimental group received

"To nitrous oxide, chloroform gives way": Was Dr. W.J.A. DeLancey's poetic license in advertising…inspired?

Born in New Hampshire but raised in Massachusetts, 14-year-old William J.A. DeLancey became "the man of the house" after the accidental death of his father. Amiable and good humored, young DeLancey supported his widowed mother and his three sisters until the girls all reached maturity. After he married, DeLancey moved to Illinois and took up dentistry, eventually settling in Centralia. Following anesthesia training back east at Manhattan's Colton Dental Association, DeLancey returned to Centralia. There he practiced the Coltonian method of testing freshly made nitrous oxide upon himself before

History of syphilis: between poetry and medicine.

INTRODUCTION: The origin of syphilis is a matter of debate and two "historical" hypotheses explain its emergence. AIM: We present here a review about syphilis history. METHODS: A review of literature about syphilis history using the following keywords: "syphilis," "history," and "treponema." RESULTS: The Columbian opinion is that syphilis came from the New World (America) with the crews of Christopher Columbus's fleet. As Naples fell before the invading army of Charles the VIII in 1495, a plague broke out among the French leader's troops. When the army disbanded shortly after the campaign,

Balancing between sensitization and repression: the role of opium in the life and art of Edgar Allan Poe and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

The creative process contains both conscious and unconscious work. Therefore, artists have to face their unconscious processes and work with emotional material that is difficult to keep under control in the course of artistic creation. Bringing these contents of consciousness to the surface needs special sensitivity and special control functions while working with them. Considering these mechanisms, psychoactive substance can serve a double function in the case of artists. On the one hand, chemical substances may enhance the artists' sensitivity. On the other hand, they can help moderate the h

Baudelaire's aphasia: from poetry to cursing.

At 45 years of age, Charles Baudelaire suffered a left hemispheric stroke that left him with a right hemiplegia and severe aphasia. In this chapter, we investigate the nature of his symptoms, drawing mostly on his own and his contemporaries' correspondence. Before specifically examining his aphasia, we put the poet's life, work, and health in context, notably his tormented mind, his probable syphilitic infection and the intellectual milieu of 19th century France. The time when Baudelaire was struck with aphasia coincides with early discoveries and debates that centered on the nature and implic

Pestilence narratives in classical literature: a study in creative imitation. II. Virgil, Ovid, Seneca, and Silius Italicus.

This article further explores patterns and traditions in classical accounts of pestilence. Recurring themes and expressions show that classical authors often copied earlier narratives, although literary analysis reveals that they sometimes embellished or distorted facts for their own purposes.

[Goethe's eye disease].

Ophthalmic diseases reported in the age of Goethe are difficult to identify today because the nomenclature used at that time is now antiquated. However, it is not difficult to establish from available documents that Goethe's left eye was seriously affected by an erysipelas (tenonitis? orbital phlegmon?), though it was not permanently damaged. With regard to differential diagnosis, an ophthalmic zoster may also be considered, but this is most unlikely considering the documentary evidence and the absence of lasting ocular damage.

[Luko Stulli and His Endorsement of Vaccination in the Context of the Recent Coronavirus Pandemic].

In the context of the recent coronavirus pandemic, we wanted to highlight the importance of vaccination as one of the greatest medical achievements and the most effective preventive measure for protecting the population from infectious diseases. Over 200 years ago, the pioneer of vaccination in Dubrovnik, Luko Stulli, one of the most renowned physicians of the early 19th century, proudly and enthusiastically wrote about it. Immediately after the discovery of vaccination and inspired by this new medical method, he wrote a Latin poem in 1804 titled “Vaccinatio, carmen elegiacum” (Vaccination, an

Neural dynamics of aesthetic appreciation: fNIRS evidence from poetry reading.

Aesthetic reading plays a crucial role in both formal and informal educational settings. However, the transition from semantic comprehension to aesthetic appreciation remains unclear. The present study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy to examine the neural dynamics of aesthetic appreciation during poetry reading. Participants were asked to read Tang poetry aesthetically while fNIRS signals were recorded from frontal and temporal regions. Compared with an efferent reading task, aesthetic reading showed a distinct three-phase neural dynamic pattern. In the initial phase, similar levels

On the illness of Politian (Agnolo Ambrogini, 1454-1494): syphilis at its identification in Europe.

The authors investigated the life, the works and the illness of the humanist and poet Agnolo Ambrogini, better known as Politian, and the cause of his death, shedding evidence on the ambiguous meaning of the term scabies that is included in the titles of two works ascribed to Politian, namely 'Sylva in scabiem' and 'De scabie'. These two works tell us the illness that will kill Politian who describes them in detail as a new illness that does appear in other important works dated between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th. This new illness will be called 'syphilis'. Syphi

Beyond semantics: Prosody can shape and modulate listeners' emotional experience of poetry - A cross-linguistic investigation.

Expressive prosody plays an important role in conveying emotion during oral poetry performance. This study investigated whether emotional prosody can serve as a perceptually robust cue for emotion judgment when semantic comprehension is unavailable. Experiment 1 confirmed systematic acoustic differences between joyful and sad poem recitations: joyful recitations exhibited higher normalized pitch, greater vocal intensity, and faster articulation rate, whereas sad recitations exhibited lower normalized pitch, reduced intensity, slower articulation rate, and reduced harmonicity. Experiment 2 empl

Exploring the emotional impact of pain on children and adolescents: A poetic meta-ethnography.

Pain in early life can go unreported and untreated. We use poems to portray findings from a systematic review of qualitative research. The overall aim of the review was to distil essential experiences across pain conditions and contexts. This report, focusing on the emotional impact of pain, is one of a series of three analyses from one systematic review of qualitative research. We used meta-ethnography to synthesise research. We identified studies in English that explored acute and/or chronic child and/or adolescent pain experience. Findings were distilled into themes and poems co-created in
